Retired Larry is humble. Competition Larry is another monster.
I think you are right he was a monster and if you weren’t up to it he knew . old school like Gordie Howe in hockey I’m going to test you .. and depending on how you respond is going to determine how it’s gonna go ..
I love the look in Larry Bird's eyes when someone names a current player and Bird says, "Wouldn't it be fun to play against him?"
Still misses the chance to play against the best competition.
Almost makes me regret hating him in the 80s.
@@dwartfarquart9590 you just know Bill Russell was thinking the same thing all those years .. the fire !
... different monster....same beast...you're welcome
When it comes to stats...In the past 50 years, here are the highest Total Career Avg Stat Points (PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK) #1) Jordan = 44.8
#2) LeBron = 44.3
#3) Bird = 43.2
#4) Kareem = 42.9
I love how much respect Reggie has for Larry Bird by calling him Coach the whole interview.
To be fair, Larry WAS his coach from 98-01. . & I could be wrong but Isiah was also his coach a few years as well. . .it's the respect thing these retired Players STILL have for each other. . .
He still calls both Bird and Isiah coach. Bird was his coach, he retired and then Isiah took over. I believe both coached here in Naptown for three years, then former player Rick Carlisle took over and now Rick is back!!
All legends at different levels in Indiana
@@T3l3MuNd0yup
Maybe because Reggie has zero all nba 2nd or 1st team selections.
Larry was straight gangster
Straight Facts......The Greatest Blackest White player to ever play!
I’ve heard lots of old NBA players talk smack about each other but I’ve never ever heard anyone talk bad about Larry Bird. They ALL respect him…
Dennis Rodman
@@alvaroandrespizzavarela878 and Isiah
@@alvaroandrespizzavarela878 even Rodman talks about Bird schooling him.
There was a lot of guys like Rodman who wanted to talk crap about larry, but then Larry showed them up in the game so anything they said never held water anyways😂😂

I'm a former Sixers fan from the Celtics Sixers rivalry. Larry Bird is absolutely one of the best players I've ever seen during my five decades of watching, playing, and studying basketball. He was astoundingly great at the game of basketball!!!!! He is in my top five and this is coming from a black former Sixers fan and diehard 80s and 90s bulls fan!!😊❤
Jordan only became unstoppable when Bird retired. That's how good Bird was.
Right on! He was my inspiration in high school. 1979 - 80 school year. I made a pass in practice. The height of my head right past my ear for a wide open easy bucket and the coach stopped practice. Coach asked me where in the world I learned that from. I was embarrassed as I thought.I would be running laps or running stairs. But I told him, "I saw Larry Bird do that" I don't remember what happened after that but I don't think I did stairs or run laps.
Facts@@TheStickinator
I love that Bird's trash talking was done subtly, without boasting and calling someone else's game garbage. He just said what he was going to do, told his defenders that there was nothing they could do to stop him, and then he simply went ahead and did it. He was just being factual. :D
The only reason we even know Bird talked trash is because former players are telling us. He never showboated on the court. Never pumped his chest. Never pointed at anyone. Like he said. It was all in fun.
Larry Bird was a fortune teller on the court
He told plenty of players their game was garbage.. fuck is you talking bout lol

Larry Bird has not aged. He's been old since then 😂
He aged early from all the beat downs he put on everyone else in the league.
Elvin Hayes is a name we don't hear enough.
One of the top 5 pf's to ever play the game
Took him for granted in the DMV !!! Not sure we really knew how good he was.
I watched Hayes play for years... Great player but he had problems against guys like John havlicek
He put up legendary numbers while missing a total of 8 games in 16 years. That's a cold MF
Elvin Hayes: One of the all-time greatest PFs in the game with as much respect given to him as Larry Bird from today's players who don't know shit about NBA History
Everyone in the eighties having nightmares about how he mentally destroyed them.
Larry: Nahhh, I was just having fun...

Plus Luka is 47.4 and Embiid 45.3
Larry talked alot more than he just admitted. And it was glorious
Nah jealous blacks made that up

Isiah just staring at the floor smiling like, bullshit 😂
All part of gamesmanship, classic. Respect had to be handled on the court back then. More of a man’s game. You can see the respect years later.
Had seats behind the Celtic bench and got to hear the trash talking -it was hilarious!
I did too
Damn I would give almost anything to have had the opportunity to sit behind the Celtics bench and listen to them slam each other. That must've been the best time ever.
I'm so jealous 💯
Larry Legend "liked" Chuck Person???? Man is Chuck lucky that Bird didn't hate him. 😂
Larry hired Chuck to work for the Pacers.
Chuck liked Larry too. They had some battles. The Celtics were a better team but in his prime, the rifleman was one of the best in the league. Everybody that played the pacers knew that they had to deal with Chuck

Gotta get Bird more involved in podcast!! The truth!!
These stories coming from Larry Bird are so awesome to hear.
As a person who lives in Indiana and loves basketball, this is an amazing trio that represent some of the greatest to play in our state. Love listening to these fine men ❤
Greatest trash 🗑️🏀 talker ever 💯 but modest and smart 🤓
You Forgot Passer, Rebounder, Winner, 3pt champ I can keep Going because I don't forget
I love these guys together ❤️ telling history about the game 💯 (pay homage)
This good showing Bird and his legacy in good light!!
Larry Bird was a Legend and he played Legendary. He could hit his shots on anybody on any given night. Legendary Larry Legend Bird.
“Merry Christmas” might be the most 🔥 PG trash talk I’ve heard to date! 🤣🤣🤣
It was actually, "Merry f---ing Christmas!"
Larry Bird: Only man in NBA history to shoot 50-40-90 four straight years while averaging over 28 PPG.
And that's not counting the double digit career rebounding and being the best passing forward in history.
Celts go from 29 wins before his rookie year to 61 wins his rookie year and there was no Parish, McKale, DJ, or Ainge on that team, just the same guys who won only 29 plus Larry Bird.
Greatest one year win improvement by ANY team in NBA history and it came because of the addition of a rookie.
It proved that Bird carrying a bunch of no-name players at Indiana State to a undefeated season, slaying one giant after another during March madness until that 1979 NCAA championship game was no fluke.
What he did at sad sack Indiana State has never been repeated and what he did his rookie year at (then) sad sack Boston has never been repeated.
There is a reason for that, a very precise reason...BECAUSE NO ONE SINCE HAS BEEN AS GOOD AS BIRD AND THEREFORE COULDN'T DO THOSE THINGS AND DIDN'T DO THOSE THINGS.
You will never see another Larry Joe Bird.
Hey Folks. Long time Lakers fan here. I believe it was Muhammad Ali who said; "if you can back it up, it ain't bragging". Well I believe Larry Bird backed up his trash talking and then some.
Larry Bird absolutely did back it up
I heard someting similar, but from Joe Namath. No matter who said it, it's an accurate statement.
Love Larry Bird. Watched him with my father back in the day. One of the most consistent dominant players that ever played the game!
Larry Legend... Couldn't stand him growing up but I always respected Bird💪💯
I couldn't stand Magic, or any Lakers player. Earvin Johnson is ok in my book today.
By far the coldest thing Larry ever did was at the all star game three point contest he walked in with his jumpsuit on and looked at all the guys participating and said “which one of you motherfuckers is coming in second” then proceeded to win the contest without taking his jumpsuit jacket off
Also it was pretty cool when he started in the NBA his first day he told all the PROs "Let's get one thing straight, I will never carry your luggage and I will NEVER do your laundry!" and he never did.
I liked what he said the year he was injured and couldn't participate in the 3-point contest. Hodges, a player for the Bulls, had come in second several years and came in first that year. A reporter asked him if he attributed his win to Larry being out, and Hodges responded, "Hey, Larry knows where he can find me."
When asked about this exchange, Larry said, "Yeah, I can find him on the end of Chicago's bench"
@sgardner4313 Another one when he was a rookie, Pistol Pete (another legend) was telling Larry "You can't take those kinds of shots. You're a rookie and you're double guarded." Larry told Pistol Pete "I know they're putting two guards on me! If you were worth a shit they wouldn't be double teaming ME!"
F**Kin legend.
If you don’t have Larry bird in your top 5 of all time I can’t respect your list. Dude was one of the coldest players ever. And made the shit look easy. I just wish he coulda got more years.
A lot of people don’t put Bird in their top 10 believe it or not. As far as I’m concerned that’s racial because there’s no concrete justification for that
That could be a stretch you have alot of greats
@@travisravizee790 when you hear all those great talk about how good he was and how much they influenced them I think that just shows how great he was. I personally feel he is still the best pure range shooter other then curry who is in a universe of his own.

Larry
.. Your a God in Boston. Come home every once and a while. We miss you ❤
Love these stories!!
My grandpa said bird was a nice shit talker like he wouldn't offend you but cook you at the same time 😂😂
Just another reason they call him legend.
People just don’t understand. LB was a legitimate 6’9. He literally never saw a hand in his face clear shot every time- Bang!
Closer to 6'10
There are players who are legit 6'9" and 6'9" with shoes. Larry was clearly taller than Magic, who I think was 6'9" with shoes, and he was close to how tall Bill Russel was, who I think is between legit 6'9" and 6'10". Bill only looked small because he played against Wilt Chamberlain, who never really looked shorter than 7'2" Kareem.
Holy hell this is the most I’ve ever heard Larry speak! He’s been out and about lately. Commercials and all
Reggie mulker. My all time fav. Larry Bird, so much respect for this man!
Legendary trash talker because he bagged it up every time
Excellent round table. Both legends coached Reggie ❤
Love you guys you guys are the real nba . Always will be . Today’s nba is pompous idiots .
Today's NBA is a joke with soft players
Bird was not a trash talker. Bird was a truth talker. He would tell you exactly what he was going to do then do it in your face. Truth talker!
The difference between talking trash & BEING trash, like contemporary athletes - respect & true competitiveness over ego.
I love watching you Larry,,,Thank u for the memories ❤
“Merry fckn xmas “ 🏀
Love how you guys can get around and laugh about the days when you were playing that’s so cool
Larry Bird was the absolute GOAT of trash talking.
They need to present a trash talking trophy to him engraved with his name to him!
His answer DEFINITELY would have been very different back in his day in competitor mode lol
ONE OF THE GREATEST TO EVER PLAY THE GAME!!!!!!!! 🏀🏀🏀
Sheeeeeit. There's an entire youtube short industrial complex built on Bird shit talking stories
There are two types of trash talk: "I'm gonna hit this shot right here", and "you suck". One says, I believe in myself, and the other says YOU are nothing. The first invites you to try and stop me,and the other tells you to quit. Those with self confidence do the former. Those with no self confidence do the later. A good example is Bird walking in to the All-star locker room ahead of the three point shootout and saying " who's playing for second?" That's balls. The later is Draymond telling an old Paul Pierce on the bench "you think they're gonna have a farewell tour for you like Kobe? You ain't Kobe
They don't love you like that. Pierce felt like crawling into a hole and crying.
Larry legend even to this age won’t know how cold he was ❤😂
Bird wasn't just a trash talker, he invented it.
Larry talked pure, clean confidence
I have a feeling listening to Larry , Chuck and magic in the same room would hilarious
He had fun AND we are blessed to enjoy laughter of winning
more people trying to rank larry need to experience his interviews. he's one of a kind for sure. done more for the sport than pretty well anyone.
The BEST feeling is when you're hyping your teammate and lowkey instigating and it works 😂 shoutout Kevin Mchale for standing on it even though he aint say it
The way they cut him off wen he said he’s not a trash talker 😂😂😂
Larry wasn’t a trash talker. He was a truth teller. He would tell people what he was gonna do on the court and the he would do it on the court.
True GOAT. Larry cant get 2 seconds in without them starting to hate 😂😂😂😂
Larry had the best sense of humor, if you grew up watching him ,you know what it is 😂 #LB33,💚🏀🐦
Larry Bird was one of the few NBA players who could backup what he said. If he told you he was going to score 50 pts on you, he did it, and there was nothing you could do about it.
Jordan, Kobe and AI were the same way.
The Fucking Legend... RIP NBA
larry legend stories never get old
Reminds me of my mother ..she was very tough and on us when we were young and would constantly beat us up with any thing she could get her hands on .. nowadays she’s in her 80s claiming she’s always too kind and supportive lol
Larry doesn’t talk trash; he tells truth.
Larry wasn't really a trash talker. Larry just told you the truth of what is going to happen, and there was nothing you could do to stop him.
That’s why there’s literally hours of footage of other people saying how much shit he talked, and his good he was at it. And worst of all, how well he backed it all up.
Dude would legit tell you calmly what he’s gonna do and how he’s gonna do it
"Merry Christmas," LMAO 😂😂😂
Should be a category called “most fun to have a beer with” in the hall of fame. I’m pretty sure Bird would be the GOAT
Larry got dudes in AA, but he was doing it "for fun".😂😂😂😂😂
Larry is such an unassuming killer.

Larry Bird! I truly agreed with those that said that if Larry Bird is not in their top 5, then they don’t know much about basketball. Enough said. I missed those days from 1983 to 1996.
Being a laker fan and Celtic and Bird hater, i look back and think i really missed Birds greatness the older I've got the more appreciate it if this makes any sense.
Absolute assassin on the court.
I'll never forget first hearing about L.Bird. I was a junior in college and a HS teammate of mine played at Creighton. This was before ESPN, online media and we had to read the small print in the newspaper sports page to see what was going on nationally with ball. Every week I would see this guy, L. Bird ISU leading the nation in scoring at 30.5 a game. So I called my boy and asked him who was this guy. I imagined he was about 6'9" 220, like Marvin Barnes, running the floor, shooting jumpers and slamming on everybody.
My boy said, are you sitting down? He said, Larry Bird is a 6'9", slow white boy, that can't jump... BUT , he's the baddest mf in the Missouri Valley Conference. Took me awhile for that to sink in. I didn't see him actually play until the NCAA'S in 79 two years later. My boy told no lies...dude was a baller, plain and simple.
Side note. My guy at Creighton beat ISU and Bird, home, away and for the MVC CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1978. He graduated in 79 got drafted by the Nuggets, but got caught up in the numbers game and didn't make it, but he was a great player. John C. Johnson 6'4" shooting guard.
Beautiful stories! 🌟
