With this you point directly to the tradition in my area up north in Scandinavia. This is what i learned from my grandfather and father. Lighting twig bundles or birch bark with matches, and guarding the burning matches inside your hands. This will burn.
Thanks for your videos! Keep up the good work!

Nice! My father learned me this method with spruce twigs and birch bark about 45 years ago =) One of my favorite methods.

Now isn't that an awesome memory to carry! I hope the world sees more fathers like that in the future. Having lost my own very recently it shows just how much good dads are needed in this world

Very good video! Thank you =)
Clearly explained and excellent camera work.
I especially like the non-invasive gathering promoted, being a (marine) biologist =D

Joe that match trick was so cool
I never thought about doing it that way Ive wasted a ton of matches by either breaking them or they going out
I could almost smell the pine when you lit it up
Thank you and Ida for all you both do for the forest family

@inforestsandlands I have a K&M match case. Absolutely top notch piece of kit. But all we have in the states are UCO's and the Diamond brand that have been the same since 1948. Lol

I see many survival experts ignoring this easy trick. When i rains herez pa usa, and it does a lot, i use pricker branches yhat are still attached ro root. They arent soaked loke any on ground, so it starts well. I snot think most survive experts spend years alone in woods. Ive been in woods for eight yrs now.

You are very correct. I'm from Ireland. Which is basically Atlantis when it comes to weather and rain. This method is always what saves me
