    I used a synthetic bicycle chain oil, a tiny drop on each hinge and the door has been completely silent for quite a few years now without any more application. The one I used is called "Go Gear - Synthetic All Weather Cycle Oil" its very good stuff, a little goes a long way.

    Coconut oil spray works very well if you want a non-toxic method.

    I use Tri-flow(Teflon) lube for my squeaky door hinges. It seems to last 6 to 8 months with one application. Thanks, Russ

      Thanks Russ, I'll experiment with that too next time. The Silicone spray we used in this video also has Teflon on it.

    Hi Jeff: Thank you for your vid. Just want to know with the Medeco, will that leave any residue? I have black hinges on a white door.

    • @jeffostroff

      It dries real fast, and sprays on clear, so only residue would be any dirt inside that drips out and runs a bit. I just wipe any excess with a cloth.

    Any thoughts on CRC White Lithium Grease? Its first listed application is hinges.

      That will work pretty good, just remember grease tends to attract dust and dirt buildup. Could still be cleaned off.

    My closet has this problem but there sliding doors would this work for it?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      Yes I would try it on the wheels. Also try to really narrow down where the squeak is coming from. Is it the wheels? Is the door rubbing against something like the track? Are the rubber slider pieces up in the track binding and squeaking? That's what you need to find out.

    I pull the pin and grease it.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      Yup, that's a good way to do it also. If there's paint on it, you'll have to sand it off with 150 or 220 grit.

    why my hinge is wet??? Oily like that

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 роки тому

      You might have a roof leak or water otherwise making it's way down to the hinge. Maybe you are in the line of sight of driving rain sometimes?

      Most WD-40 products are not lubricants, I have not researched this Specialist product yet.

      Bruce, How does that work out for you, does it collect up dust and dirt? That's always my worry with wet oils and lubricants.

    • @bruceb3786
      @bruceb3786 4 роки тому

      @@jeffostroff No. Wipe the hinge pin off good with WD40 to get all the old crud off. Sometimes use WD40 on a .308 brass brush to clean all of the hinge openings. Then a LIGHT coat of 3-in-1 on only the hinge pin. I will do anything thoroughly ONCE. I hate constant rework. Good for 18 years so far.... just checked a few, time to clean again, still no squeaks though.
