The opening sequence of this video was incredibly beautiful. Here’s to rainy days in the kitchen! I can’t tell you how many times I wished I could spend a few days in the kitchen with Meg! If you ever want a helper, let me know!
All that nice looking food harvested, canned, frozen, and made into meals. Tomato pie, and chicken pasta oh my!!!! Homemade expresso, sitting with your person, and listening to the rain......one couldn't ask for any thing better😊 Life is good!
I actually noticed that’s a steer not a cow. I actually used to go to a large butcher in Issaquah, WA long ago. They had pistachio liverworst. It was so good. Unfortunately I don’t know where it came from. Think I’ll see what I can find.
So many people have a fairytale idea of what homesteading is. You guys show real life events and daily life on a real farm. I love you guys and have from the beginning. Prayers for you all as you continue to live the best life ever. ❤❤❤❤
I love seeing a family work together, to get things done. What a blessing to be surrounded by your loved ones - " many hands make light work." Meg, you put so much love into feeding your family good, nutritious foods that it is truly your ministry to them and Ben and the kids are so appreciative of your love and effort Be well and God bless.
The look on Megs face when you starting talking about getting today’s tomatoes 😂😂😂😂😂😂 enjoy harvest season, I remember your first year and you didn’t have much, your garden is productive now thanks to your hard work, well done 👍🏼
I saw that look from Meg too...but Ben redeemed himself by making her a custom espresso... near Meg's sit down time ! Now if she could just train him to massage her 🦶🦶🤔🤣🙂🙃🙂🤣
I see the prosciutto hanging in the kitchen, garlic ropes hanging everywhere, baskets of fresh tomatoes and onions and fresh pesto! When that house gets warm it has got to smell incredible in there! Amazing!
I would just like to say to you and your wife i am 56 years old and have only had 1 garden in my life and I have learned so much from your channel about gardening and plants and seeds thank you very much love your channel and the kids and animals i have had a lot of animals over my life time and you guys do a great job with them and teaching your kids how to take care of them the right way keep them videos coming 👍 🇺🇸
Ben and Meg... you two are awesome !! My husband and I love getting a coffee and watching your videos ! We are retired from homesteading now. we are 70 yrs old and the only thing we can handle is my container gardening and freezing veggies making freezer meals and salsa ... things like that.. I dehydrate my herbs and make my own spices .. which are so incredibly good !! much better than store bought !!! Your kids are so sweet !!! We love you guys .. We are also in NC in-between Durham and Hillsborough .... Take care !
Congrats on 150,000 subs...and to all watching...do what it says on the 'fridge door (14:10)! If you miss The Waltons...the Hollars are a real live sub...from the NC mountains instead of Virginia...
I was in the house today working on freezing corn and I played your video where you took your trip across the country and found your new home, and saved your family. I actually got teary eyed a couple of times because I kept thinking, "if you only knew how well this turns out".
She’s amazing!!! Such an inspiration, the way she takes time and cooks for her family and even takes out time for special sushi request, may the Lord bless you always 💚
SO glad you made the comment about NOT putting Parmesan in the pesto. All the recipes I found called for it, so I was afraid to waste resources by making it without and finding out it wasn't good. Thank you so much!
Our Benito cat loved basil. He would skulk around the garden, nibbling basil bushes as he went. My mom would go out with scissors and paper towel, hiking for the basil bushes. And then the growling and swearing began. Because Benni would have nibbled EVERY leaf of basil. All of it. 😸
I just love your videos! Meg’s great cooking, your great gardening & fix-it’s around the homestead, your Boys helping & Buggie’s cuteness all just make my day. I look forward to watching the videos so much.
I enjoy all your videos Hollars, but this , being with you all while snacking and watching you all work together and feeling like we are a part of it all really was heartwarming. Love you guys. Blessings ❤🙏
I freeze my pesto in ice cube trays, then pop them out and store in ziplock bags. I’m the only who eats it here but sometimes I sneak it into a no-knead bread…and he loves it. Of course I haven’t told him what’s in it. LOL
I was told if you pinch off that part of the basil when it wants to start forming the flower bud, it’ll stop that process and instead fork into two more branches of basil leaves! It’s only my second year growing it really, but seems to be working for me so far! 🙌🏼🌱✨
The garden looked sooo green and fresh. The family has done a beautiful job this year. I can see the results of all the care and knowledge that have been expended. Now the fun begins. Trying new varieties and experimenting with your added knowledge without risking your tested farm favorites. It's such a pleasure to watch the rhythm of the harvest. Happy winter with your summer sunshine food. Stay safe family and enjoy. Blessings
Meg, you are so talented in everything you touch. The beginning of this vlog was so wonderful! Between the music and the camera shots was incredible! I am in awe of how hard you, Ben and the children work together to get things down. Even sister knows what to do now. Watching her make her bread, pesto, gorgonzola and dilly bean snack was adorable. ❤❤❤
Who needs cable only shows I watch anyways is the hollars and simple living Alaska!! Great job meg harvest season is rough but so worth it in the end!!
The opening was a very nice treat after a depressing day….it’s so nice to see the whole family involved with food prep…. I dehydrated tomatoes and made tomato powder to save room in my freezer….today I did watermelon, cucumbers, cantaloupe and chicken…… I’m filling Mylar bags and putting them into square five gallon buckets which I like better for stacking. Can you use your camper as a veggie storage? You could put the air on just to keep them cool enough to prevent rot…. Aren’t you using your freeze drier for the extra veggies for winter use? Homemade mozzarella, tomato and basil pesto on homemade bread….yum.
Meg's cookin up her own storm🙂 I enjoy the just what we are doing videos. They are the best.Meg,your light sure shines in your loving service to your family:-) God Bless Donna
I love watching your videos. You make homesteading look happy. I can see that you are and love your new life. I love my little piece of earth. I call it my homestead and love all that it produces. Keep up at what you are doing
I love seeing the team work in your lives. Wether it’s the garden or the kitchen you help each other. Meg you always have such a diverse repertoire of recipes in your back pocket. Such hard work canning all the broth. I bought a roaster so maybe I’ll start following your lead. Also love how you document your garden harvest to look back on! I’m just a Hollar fan all around!!
Yay for rain and baby green beans and loads of tomatoes and pollinators , home-made bagels and omlette's and awesomeness. You are fancy !! I love the no crust tomato-pie !!!!!Garlic is too tasty ! Pesto is super-yum ! You are a Sushi-wizard. Awesome family-fun filled garden video. You are vegetable-rich for sure. You sure expose-o your love, so cute. Nice rain !! You work together well !! You are an awesome home-steading family !!
I have to say that the first portion of the vlog is truly what my soul needed, with the scenes outside on the farm and the weather 😊...I also rather envy your beautiful weather! Being a Southern California native, rain comes so seldom. Thank you for making me WANT to be self-sufficient, even if it's only on my little .18 acre of property 😊...
Yes her boys need to fill big shoes when they choose women in the future!! Meg is a great mom and she's teaching little lily right beside her and her name fits her well she's as beautiful as a lily with a little sass to go along!!😊
I make basil pesto its one of our favorites .That looks like perfect basil ! I see your family loves it too. Because pine nuts are so expensive for my recipe I use walnuts and do not add cheese until ready too use also . Your children will always want God bless your canning season .😀
I love these cooking and canning videos !!! You guys are such a big help to Meg. She works her bum off canning and preserving. All those extra hands.....have to help significantly !!! I love the way ya'll pitch in on big projects.
Dearest Meg, if I had a choice between your kitchen and the most glamorous kitchen in the world. I would pick yours in a heart beat. Your kitchen is in my books, the heart of a family. I love looking at your produce hanging around the room. I too preserve what I grow from my backyard. To me, opening something out of season, grown from one's own land....is special. Blessings from Australia 🌎💚💙
I know I've said it a thousand times if I've said it once: it is pure joy to watch your family just doing everyday things! I started a file on my computer saving screenshots of things I find beautiful. You probably tied Good Simple Living in the first few minutes alone. This video was absolutely beautiful.
When my husband and I got married about 30 years ago his family made me pesto and I almost gagged I hated even the smell of it. Fast forward 10 years I was pregnant with our 3 son and I couldn’t get enough of it. Now it’s a staple in my house/garden. My husband loves when I make it from lemon basil!! We roast veggies and put pesto over it with pasta or rice. Delish!
Just saying I enjoy all of you in the kitchen, garden by the chickens and pigs and chipping chain sawing. Or just about anywhere on your property. It gelps me see what our forefathers and families did as a day in the life. Thankyou so much for this. May God's blessings be on you and your family
Meg, you are one of the hardest working woman ever. You are also a food artist, you make ordinary food beautiful. Ben, I love how you love Meg and the kids, the espresso was so extra but O MY. ❤ I also love the kids always around. Thanks for the beautiful video.
Meg makes the most delicious looking meals and snacks. You all work so hard and reap wonderful harvests! Thanks for sharing- you inspire me to keep going!
I loved the rainy day shots at the beginning. I also love seeing Meg cook. Your place looks so great. I remember how it was when you first moved there. You are both so talented and hard working. You've created a beautiful homestead.
My favorite vlog of late. You all inspire me to do the tiny bit of gardening I have room for, just so I can use it in meals. Your family is learning great eating habits! Fresh bread; freshly made pesto and gorganzola! Heaven!😊
Such a beautiful and peaceful video! Loved all the beautiful flowers, vegetables, animals, the cooking the canning, just an overall heartwarming video. ❤❤❤❤
I find this to be one of the most watchable YT homestead channels. Artistic, informative, respectful of the children’s lives, very hardworking, well-rounded individuals.
Buggie did great! I just harvested my basil and put it in the dehydrator!!! Dang! I did leave the bases so that maybe I might get more. If I do I am making pesto! I want to say thank you for sharing your lives with all of us. You may never know how much your content inspires, uplifts, and is appreciated by some of us. So, thank you folks! I never take your dedication lightly. God Bless!
Ben, the way you described pesto is exactly how I feel about the fruit that I dehydrate. It’s a touch of summer on a cold winter morning when we eat it in oatmeal (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and cherries). We love pesto too! ♥️👍🤓
When I was little Pop would take me to gather pristine snow, sprinkle with vanilla and crumble in dehydrated strawberries. While we ate it he would remind me that the hard work of the harvest was being rewarded. Country folk are just blessed twice over to work with God and nature under azure skies.
Meg made gimbap or Kimbap (same thing different spelling) which is the Korean version of sushi. Unlike Japanese sushi, gimbap is made with cooked meat and veggies.. She did a great job rolling it since that’s usually the hardest part of sushi making. I didn’t get to plant anything this year for my garden. I also felt like what Ben had said, about time running out and feeling like he never got going on the garden. So glad to see your harvest of fruit and veggies so far… 🌿🍉🧄🌻🍓🍒🍋 I just came back to nyc🗽 from our annual family trip. My hubby, two children and I stayed in Gastonia, NC visiting my parents. We love visiting since it’s so peaceful and it’s a different change of scenary. We can’t wait for our trip next year. Meg, you’re such a inspiration as a wife and mother. I wish I had your energy to be in the kitchen as much as you ❤️ Ben, I’m so happy to see you and your beautiful children helping Meg in the kitchen and all that you do for your family in and outside the homestead. Im so sorry for such a long comment and not even sure if you’ll get to see or read this but wanted to say hi. Thank you for sharing your family and your homesteading life for the whole world to watch and enjoy. I’ve learned so much from you guys and appreciate it.. Wishing you nothing but blessings and a happy harvest for summer ‘23. ☀️☀️👙👙🎆🎇 -xo, kat ❤
I’ve been back in canning mode too. My 7 yo grand daughter’s impression is that “nana doesn’t use food. She puts it in jars and I’ve seen where she puts it.” LOL!! She doesn’t realize that she has eaten some of the food I put in jars 😊
Just a little tip when making pesto - I buy cashews, roast them and then store them in the freezer (actually I keep all my nuts and seeds in the freezer - stops the oils in them from going rancid) and use them in my pesto, they give that lovely creamy mouth feel that the pinenuts do at a fraction of the cost.
Meg is such a great cook and leader of her family. It seems you are qll helping, but every kitchen has a pecking order and Meg’s the knowledgeable and driving force
🙋🏼♀️🕊 . Dear family this was a really wonderful visit with your family.. glad you kept the rain 💦in . Rain 🌧 on the farm. 🐥🥀Always praying for your safety. Watch Ryan &. Andie 🌧💦. . About the basil 🌿 pour a little 🫒 olive oil over the pesto. It. Keeps it from turning brown even after you open it and use it…….also you can put the pesto in sandwich bags ,, make it flat. Freeze it ,And break a piece off when you need it, also takes up less room in the freezer.. and defrost easily as well. Blessings to your family 💞🕊💞🕊💞🕊🍀🍀🍀
I've just recently found your channel in the last month of so and I truly enjoy your videos! I'm a home canner myself and love watching Meg in the kitchen. Great seeing the whole family work together. Sending blessings from Maine
You must be closer to me than I thought. We had that storm hit about the same time. It wasn't as bad as what we have had recently but we still made sure that everything was battened down, head lamps charged, and animals all fed before it hit. I didn't get much of a garden this yr either. We are were y'all were 3 yrs ago. Trying to fix a home, do the animals and keep everyone in the family happy. So glad we made the move over here though. CA is so bad now. It's sad. But I miss the food and the beach. SC has amazing storms though. I love sitting on my porch and watch the lightning show. Peace and Love neighbor ❤️
I'm loving your videos. I'm gonna binge watch the older videos. Ty for sharing your lives. Very respectful children. I love how you all are polite and use the manners you've been taught. Love that you pray bfor your meals. Be blessed.
Casting my vote. I believe this video is the very best video that anyone in the homestead community has ever posted. Absolutely beautiful both visually and emotionally. Love the opening segment, just gorgeous! Great job guys!
Your opening montage of the rain and the garden was just peaceful and so beautiful. Thanks for sharing that and for everything else you share with us. We appreciate you!
Love love this video, everything about it was so so beautiful, you guys are such a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing and may God bless you all always and forever.
Yes we just got a well deserved rain. It saves me from having too water. Everything is finally coming in too can for winter. I noticed that both young children are watching your recipes being made. They will good help when needed. God bless you all for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing your farm life with us. I am homebound and live on UA-cam. I appreciate a wholesome happy family to watch. You are a lifesaver for my mental health. The shaking of garlic in a bowl reminded me of the same thing I have seen with boiled eggs. You might try that someday and see if it works for you. I have a question....Why dont we ever see you all having a salad? I know you grew some lettuces, and you have all the fixings for salads. But, I have never seen you serve it with a dinner. Curious minds want to know.
❤🎉MEG, I'm at the point where you're making the sushi rolls. I'm thinking whoever your young boys find as wives are going to have a very TALL ORDER to be like mom. 😂😂🎉🎉 You are amazing lady❤❤
Is there anything Meg cant make in her kitchen? That mock Sushi looked great...just need some wasabi😂 So nice too that she filled Tylers special request, i see her do that often with her boys.😊💛
It is therapeutic being privy to Meg's joy when she is cooking for her family.
until dad joins in.....
I LOVE HOW THEY APPRECIATE HER EFFORTS
Anyone who watched the bagel making vlog saw a best date night ever ❤.
I agree! I enjoy this entire family…the way it should be.
Midwest
The opening sequence of this video was incredibly beautiful. Here’s to rainy days in the kitchen! I can’t tell you how many times I wished I could spend a few days in the kitchen with Meg! If you ever want a helper, let me know!
All that nice looking food harvested, canned, frozen, and made into meals.
Tomato pie, and chicken pasta oh my!!!!
Homemade expresso, sitting with your person, and listening to the rain......one couldn't ask for any thing better😊
Life is good!
You crossed over 150,000 subscribers...Did you ever think that would happen? Thanks Hollar's for sharing your journey. It is such a joy to watch.
I actually noticed that’s a steer not a cow. I actually used to go to a large butcher in Issaquah, WA long ago. They had pistachio liverworst. It was so good. Unfortunately I don’t know where it came from. Think I’ll see what I can find.
I noticed that as well! I’m so happy, it’s my favorite as is Sow the Land !
So many people have a fairytale idea of what homesteading is. You guys show real life events and daily life on a real farm. I love you guys and have from the beginning. Prayers for you all as you continue to live the best life ever. ❤❤❤❤

We definitely need a cookbook from Meg! 💜💜💜
Yes yes yes please🎉
SO glad you made the comment about NOT putting Parmesan in the pesto. All the recipes I found called for it, so I was afraid to waste resources by making it without and finding out it wasn't good. Thank you so much!
I only add pecorino if I know it's gonna be eaten within a couple.of weeks. Not for long term storage.
Food glorious food. 🌿 🍅 You are growing a troop of food connoisseurs. Such a treat to see children enjoy good wholesome food and coming back for more.
Oh my goodness it was so precious watching Buggy build her pesto and dilly bean with warm bread!!!
That baby girl has great small motor skills .. Did all of you see her fine motor skills ? Woah 😮
I’m Japanese and Meg’s sushi is perfectly legitimate .❤
Our Benito cat loved basil. He would skulk around the garden, nibbling basil bushes as he went. My mom would go out with scissors and paper towel, hiking for the basil bushes. And then the growling and swearing began. Because Benni would have nibbled EVERY leaf of basil. All of it. 😸

Watching Buggy make her sandwich was priceless. Good eye and hand coordination.
Yum and rain too. Haven’t seen rain in over a month. You are blessed.
I am so happy that you help your wife.
Hello family! Just wanted to say that it's always good seeing the harvest of any kind from the garden and then the preservation of the harvest.
Watching Buggy make her little pesto and dilly bean sandwich put a smile on my face! My granddaughters are such picky eaters.
Love that it's always a team effort with your family.
So glad to see your harvest of fruit and veggies so far…

I just came back to nyc🗽 from our annual family trip. My hubby, two children and I stayed in Gastonia, NC visiting my parents. We love visiting since it’s so peaceful and it’s a different change of scenary. We can’t wait for our trip next year.
Meg, you’re such a inspiration as a wife and mother. I wish I had your energy to be in the kitchen as much as you ❤️
Ben, I’m so happy to see you and your beautiful children helping Meg in the kitchen and all that you do for your family in and outside the homestead.
Im so sorry for such a long comment and not even sure if you’ll get to see or read this but
wanted to say hi. Thank you for sharing your family and your homesteading life for the whole world to watch and enjoy. I’ve learned so much from you guys and appreciate it..
Wishing you nothing but blessings and a happy harvest for summer ‘23. ☀️☀️👙👙🎆🎇

Lol "that's not a muffin!"
All that food prep to have 'fast food' throughout the winter months is soooo worth it. Blessings!!
The bee's will love the Basil when it flowers.😊
Be blessed.
I love spending the day in the kitchen with the family.
Seeing all the vibrant colors in the garden makes my eyes happy.👁️👁️
Casting my vote. I believe this video is the very best video that anyone in the homestead community has ever posted. Absolutely beautiful both visually and emotionally. Love the opening segment, just gorgeous! Great job guys!
All the GREAT family members EATING IN JOY!!!! Thank you.
Your opening montage of the rain and the garden was just peaceful and so beautiful. Thanks for sharing that and for everything else you share with us. We appreciate you!

Love this Video!🎉thanks
We don’t have any lettuce growing right now. And only half of us are big salad eaters, plus we mostly eat it for lunches when we do eat it.
❤🎉MEG, I'm at the point where you're making the sushi rolls. I'm thinking whoever your young boys find as wives are going to have a very TALL ORDER to be like mom. 😂😂🎉🎉 You are amazing lady❤❤
It is so beautiful to view you both working together as a team with your family
Really enjoyed the guitar music. Thanks. I got scapes to spare. I will make them ready as Meg did...
It is a joy to be in Megs kitchen and see all the things she makes and cooks. A lucky, blessed family. So fun. 💞
Is there anything Meg cant make in her kitchen? That mock Sushi looked great...just need some wasabi😂 So nice too that she filled Tylers special request, i see her do that often with her boys.😊💛
