I haven't been following this too closely. I've been waiting for something more definitive to come out. I couldn't back it so I'm glad to see some reports on it finally. Thanks.
@@the_dice_society luckily you can watch it through VoD. It was a perfect example of how not to introduce a newbie to character creation (Matt said so himself several times) as he told us a lot of lore and anecdotes in between. But it was definitely enlightening for those who for whatever reason can't read through the playtest package.
As I was watching Uncle Matt it's only now I've had time to properly check out this vid. Great summary. The "talking hands" isn't really my thing but then again it's refreshing compared to "talking heads". I think I would've preferred you to flip to the relevant pages, though probably that's best done when there's a proper layout. Alternatively fill in a character sheet, though I understand there's no standard for that either. Best thing I think would be some kind of doodle video, but I recognise that requires a LOT more prep and investment. So please take the above as some tiny pointers that may or may not be useful and focus on my main feedback: Great summary! I feel I've got a better grasp now of what the game is (probably) going to look/feel like.
@@jeroenimus7528 Thank you very much for the feedback! Once I finished recording, it was super clear to me that I should have flipped to the relevant pages and maybe showed a little bit more of the actual text. I plan on doing a character creation video at some point, so I'll try and show more of the sheet and rules then. Also, I agree that a doodle video is the ideal format for this, but I unfortunately lack the skills :/ Talking hands was the best I could do lol
Why not? Tactical with lots of pushes and slides and interesting moves can be very cinematic. Look at a Reaver Fury who deals chip damage while sliding enemies and dodging AOEs. That's going to feel pretty cinematic as they're constantly shifting on the battlefield and cutting up multiple enemies in a unique way.
I was confident that the tactical would be there, given the experience of the MCDM crew. However, I was skeptical about the cinematic aspect. Having played it now twice, I found that it exceeded my expectations. Draw Steel is the most engaging fantasy RPG I’ve played in years.
What made it work for my table was how fast the rounds went. In addition, if a player wasn't sure what to do on their turn, there was probably another player who could go and give them time to think.
You've clearly never played alina of the arena. Incredibly crunchy combat and incredibly cinematic. Nothing beats thinking throught your turn for a minute then throwing a rock at the dog that's grabbed you to make it let go, slamming an enemy into a wall to stun them, mixing up your weapons, and sniping the enemy that was about to shoot you, oh yeah, and don't forget to hurl that random weapon you happen to be next to increasing your combo. The crowd loves that stuff. Not to mention how varied the enemy roster is and how good it feels to roll out of the way of a attack that could remove half your hp after swinging for 100 damage ❤
The way you present this video with your hands gives me strong Deficent Master vibe
I love his visual style! I only lack all of the editing skills 😅
@@the_dice_society Looks like a lot of work though. Anyway looking forward to your update on Draw Steel!
made me think of an old art thinfg, theses glvioed hands would just appear and draw sor make stuff, strong that vibes
You always deliver Caio. Nice work!
Thank, you Jon! Looking forward to seeing your playtest content as well.
Great summary, will share with potential players
Thank you! Hope they like it
I was worried when they said no rolls to hit but this is actually amazing for heroic fantasy.
Very easy to homebrew stuff to allow misses.
Perfect.
Concise pitch! I have no time or attention, and this got me! Man. Anyone else remember Iron Heroes? How far we've come...
Glad you liked it!
loved this video!
very succinct overview
Thank you!
A fantastic primer for the game. Love the expressive hands by the way.
My Italian ancestors are proud :P
Appreciate this! Sharing with my group to gauge interest.
I hope they like it!
Nice video dude!! Well done

Excited for this as an almost perfect foil for Shadowdark, splitting into two what 5e tries to blend
As the saying goes: never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing
Did you just record this video while uncle Matt was talking us through character creation? 😮😋
Yes, unfortunately... I was so sad when I got the notification :(

@@the_dice_societyA Zee Bashew/Dice Society collab!

I still don't believe tactical and cinematic go together....
