- Classical superstar Lang Lang stops by the studio to discuss his new recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations with WQXR Morning Host Jeff Spurgeon. In this interview, the piano virtuoso will reveal why he chose to release both a live and studio recording of this iconic work, and play some excerpts from the Variations including No. 1, No. 25, and No. 30.

“…….Very baroque, you know, very academic……”. ????? Not even remotely alike. Lang is a great pianist, but even at his stage, the Goldberg is beyond his capability. Leave it alone.
What you talking about LangLang interpretations of the Goldberg Variations is one of the best!
@@BingDwenDwen Not even close. May interpretations tend to be radical…..but they remain integral to the style of the piece. Land’s tempi are simply for show, lack o voicing (yes, even on the piano). It was clear in the aria that this piece should not be in his active repertoire. Listening to it substantiated my conviction. Not speaking of like or dislike, but stgyle. His opening interview statement clarified his misunderstanding of the Baroque style. His playing showed that clearly. As a virtuosic pianist h😀
….sorry lost message. As as virtuosic pianist, he has few peers……as a true musician, even his background preparing for a career makes clear that the career was shoved down his throat. There is room for many and many are far superior to him, musically and pianistically.
@@ernieragogini3994 Mozart was trained and forced to play the piano by his father aswell, because his father saw a prodigy in him and his father was right, Langlang father saw the prodigy in him too, so his career and life is similar that of Mozart, so what is your point?
@@BingDwenDwen The “point” is, there is no comparison. Mozart and Lang Lang????? Mozart was also a composer, first complete opera at age 12; Linz symphony composed on his way to Linz, in a rickety horse drawn coach. Mozart’s keyboard playing was often compared to that of a monkey doing tricks……it was all for show. BUT his mental powers were great. Consider the hundreds of masterpieces by Mozart…..who was dead before he reached Lang Lang’s age. Please read a definitive Mozart biography. Haven’t it in front of me but will gladly send particulars to you when I get to my studio. If lang lan g does it for you, great. He will bring many to music, I only wish it was unadulterated tricks.
