Gabriel Byrne is a great actor, excellent writer and a wonderful human being. Good idea to interview him.
King Uther. Superb
I remember Gabriel from an RTE (national broadcaster) series way back in the 80's. He always had a great camera presence..
In Treatment. Superb
Fame should be an annoying byproduct of greatness and nothing else.
Well said.
5:50 is the absolute truth. Anyone who comes from a rural area knows that feeling all too well. As a nobody, I left to have some sense of anonymity in public.
These are lessons you can't pay for. In a sense, to desire fame is already to have lost. Who you are is a difficult proposition...if and when you decide to figure it out.
Goodness also somewhat eludes fame, because you should only do good, really, because it's good, so secretly, not to be known for it, is far preferable. So as not to be merely pr, for instance.
It's easy, these days, to confuse status or repute with the thing itself. For instance Byrne really is, also, a great actor, and is famous. Wanting fame, repute is not the same as wanting to be a great actor.
I like stigmata.
War of the Worlds. EPIX. Superb.
Brilliant actor - especially in films Defence of the Realm and Millers Crossing..
I saw him first time in the 2002 movie Ghost Ship..
What would Keyser Soze say?
He'd say to keep it on the hush hush, on the QT and strictly entre nous.
After Miller's Crossing, Gabriel can do no wrong.
Who is David?
@@lisadiconti HA. I fixed it.
A pity he didn't name names of those who have managed fame well and kept their compass. I always thought that Jimmy Stewart and Bob Hope handled it so well but maybe it was easier to do back then. Values are so misplaced today and lack of principles results in a kind of mania.
Bob Mitchum too.
Nothing has changed .it's always been the same!!; Nothing new here!!!
The devil himself
But he is not that big. I wonder if you asked people who Gabriel Byrne is not that many would know.
An actor's actor. If he was interested in fame he could have been so much more commercially successful. There are a lot of 'big' actors who couldn't hold a candle to him.
@@paulwelch1992 You go to the U.S.A and ask people would they know Gabriel Byrne is.
@@johndoyle2429 I'm sure the average person wouldn't be aware of him. Theatre goers in NY, a certain amount of TV viewers (he won an Emmy for In Treatment - a masterclass in acting) some film buffs - Miller's Crossing & The Usual Suapects are still highly regarded. I've seen him on Letterman and a number of other high profile shows but it seems to me that he prefers to keep a low profile. If he had appeared in a few 'superhero' films he's probably be much better known but he's preferred to do 'interesting' work rather than commercial dross. Some of the roles I've liked him in best are rather low budget affairs (Jindabyne for instance). There are many great actors who never give a poor performance yet never achieve commercial success. It's not a barometre of ability. Neither Burton or O'Toole ever won an Oscar whilst many actors with far less ability did.
Wrong guy to interview on this subject!!!
Why?
Sorry ...who is he???
Don't be envious.
I mind been Gabriel Byrnes shoe's.
