Funny thing about the old man Albert Fish. When he was sitting in the electric chair getting ready to be executed, his last words were something like this: “Hurry up and get this going. This will be the biggest thrill I will ever have experienced.” Something like that. Supposedly he was getting turned on about being executed. Weird people out there.

No there was a huge spike in the 60s-80s and it dropped down after. I think it was just “the perfect storm” no dna profiling, just the right amount of modernization (easy to get around, lure victims, etc) but not enough modernization where cameras are everywhere and coordinated police investigations across jurisdictions. Highways and interstates, planes, but no cell phone towers to track everyone. Also less ideas of stranger danger. But yes that’s when law enforcement really caught on with personality profiles

When he burglarized homes, he would only take one earring from a set (for example), and then it would escalate to him scouting out his victims at night weeks in advance to when he would actually go after them. He actually killed a couple in February 1978, who confronted him while he was on the prowl one night. It was after he killed the couple (Brian and Katie Maggiore) that he moved to Southern California and became known as the Original Nightstalker from 1979 to 1981, and made one last debut in 1986.

@shoafymusic : I don't necessarily believe that they are the same person, but some things which lead me to speculate on the possibility that they might are: There's only about a 5-yr. gap between the Zodiac killer's slayings and D.B. Cooper's apparently one-off skyjacking stunt; then, there's the fact that Cooper had the plane that he skyjacked open its rear emergency door/hatch over northern California -- not terribly far from the Bay-area (a cpl./few hrs. drive away, once a road was found); so, he had to have a basic familiarity with the area that he was jumping into -- especially at night
There are, however, inconsistencies that are difficult to reconcile: ZK's obvious callous disregard for human life on one hand, but D.B.'s demonstration of not wanting to harm any crew members or other passengers on the other hand; because D.B. was very specific about what he wanted the pilot(s) and flight attendants to do with the plane and safety equipment, it's strongly believed that he had some knowledge with regard to planes and air-travel (whether that be as a pilot/navigator/flight instructor/air-traffic controller -- civilian/commercial, military*, or both); whereas, there's no evidence that ZK had any aviation-related knowledge
(*perhaps, he'd had some airborne military experience with one of the branches and took some paratrooper jump-school lessons as part of his training but was ultimately discharged)

The Texas Rangers even framed a District attourney to keep the scheme going so they could continue to get funding for their investigation with Lucas as the central focus. His damages eye made him look like the monster so they used that to trick the public. Lucas probably only killed 1 or 2 in reality but for decades he was considered the most prolific ever.

@@paulcarpenter7844 To quote Dr Tim Sampson a inquest barrister: ‘had the newly available DNA analysis of blood and semen samples obtained from a shawl been available to the police at that time, it would have been justifiable for the coroner to charge and then seek to Mr Kosminski prosecuted for both the murder of Miss Eddowes and the other four known victims of the so-called Ripper murders.’

It’s not. The DNA test they used was a very unreliable method and they used an artifact with dubious (at best) connections to the crime scene. There are entire books written about the hundreds of people who’ve been suspected. Odds are we’ll never find the truth.

@@zaynthemane it was Catherine Eddows blood on the sawl and his seamen on the sawl. Traced back through his family tree. As Dr Samson an inquest barrister said: if he was alive today he would have been arrested and charged with murder. The DNA doesn’t change.

Or the game show killer. He appeared on a game show, won a date with the contestant, but she rejected him because he gave off creepy vibes. It was later discovered he was a serial killer that targeted women.
