I feel like I'm living in your future in a way. I'm in France, my university is closed 'until further notice', all restaurants, cinemas, ski resorts (rip was going skiing in a week) , tourist attractions etc.. are also closed until further notice and one of my friends father is quite high in the French military and he says from Tuesday night we will be on full lock down aka you cannot leave your house. All the shops are pretty much empty, no meat, bread milk etc.. A friend of mines entire family has coronavirus. I'm in toulouse where it is quite bad, I'm gonna have to get out to the country side by Tuesday at the latest, else I will be stuck here in my uni appartement for a minimum of 5 weeks but could be longer....
Its only a matter of time until you have the same thing so all I can say is slowly stock up..not trying to be alarmist but it's become a reality for me already and it's only gonna get worse.
In all honesty I am very impressed with the action SA is taking, it is far more immediate and strong than European countries who all waited until they had 1000-2000 cases before taking similar action

    • @jonathan1391544

@ true! Apparently the reason they are trying to slow it down is because about 15% of patients hearts stop and need to be revived, hospitals don't physically have the capacity to save so many people, last night Paris alone had to revive 450 people. They are already coming to the point where they have to choose who to revive. If everyone gets it at once they will be forced to leave many people to die. Source is a family friend who is a surgeon in paris

I feel like this address was mainly meant for the middle class, nothing in this is relevant for the poor...The majority of the population uses public transport, where cash is passed around. This could have a devastating impact on the infection rate. Not so long ago we had droughts especially in the Eastern Cape, with the "wash your hands every 20 minutes" rhetoric what measures are being put in place to make sure such places curb a potential resurgence of it? I was also expecting the president to say something in terms of regulating how the pharmaceutical industry is using this epidemic to rake in profits, it cannot be ok that a damn hand sanitizer that wasn't even twenty rands is bordering 80 rands. I sometimes feel like our leaders are out of touch with the reality of the poor unless it is election year.

I'm just going to say it as a white South African. As much as I understand why people hate the ANC, I would personally have them over the DA. I hate those guys with a passion, and they are no different than Hillary Clinton. They have the exact same policies and I absolutely hate each and every single one of them with a passion.
The ANC, believe it or not, stands for phenomenal policies that I 100% agree with politically. The biggest problem with them however, is the corruption and robbery of money that is supposed to be invested into these said policies that their party stands for.
I'm seriously not joking about this. I think what the ANC stands for is phenomenal. I wish they weren't so corrupt otherwise I believe we would have a completely different viewpoint about them. I would definitely vote for them if they managed to keep their end of the bargain.
Hate me all you want, but I'm just stating my opinion. I hate politics in general, especially European ones where I came from. I've seen what they did, and looking at what the DA stands for.... that's probably the biggest reason why I ran away from Europe in the first place. Don't want the infectious far-leftist liberal movement to spread any further outside 1st world countries. Keep them there thank you, it's destroying them left and right.

Public hospitals in South Africa have been plundered bare. Even the normal run of patients receive minimal health care and medical supervision in public hospitals. For example, a patient of Steve Biko hospital who had recently suffered a stroke, lay on a bed of which the mattress was covered only with a dirty, threadbare sheet. There were no other bed coverings. He was clad in torn, threadbare pajama pants and he almost never saw a nurse or a doctor. He was essentially on his own. A catheter installed days previously, was leaking and his pants and the bed was soiled with urine. The rest of the ward he was in, was also filthy. No nursing staff were anywhere in sight. There obviously was no sense of hygiene. Other public hospitals, such as in Atteridgeville and Mamelodi are said to be in an even worse state. The culture in South Africa of plundering and looting public assets lies at the root of this sorry state of affairs. These hospitals are patently unable to deal with the pending corona epidemic. Deaths in South Africa due to the corona virus will probably exceed one million. The day of reckoning for the unabated looting and plundering over more than two decades has finally arrived in a most horrendous way.
