    I've never had the crashing problem, but I had looked into this patch... this is hands down the clearest explanation on how to install it, cheers mate!

      Same, just played it through and had no issues other then the armor bug for the silverite mines. Found a fix mod for that

    I never usually comment on videos but I have been trying to get this to work on and off all day to no avail, until I found this video explaining the process. Thank you so much! You made it so clear and concise, the other instructions I had found made it sound much more complicated than it was, so I am so grateful to have found this video! :)

      Glad to help! This patch is imo absolutely necessary for new computers, otherwise the game tends to crash quite a lot. I've been using the patch for many years, even while having Windows 7 installed, because it helps a lot with the memory issues the game has due to that memory leak

    Applying a random patch and then running as admin is SUPER sketch and insecure.

    • @btiermutineer
      @btiermutineer  7 днів тому

      It's not a random patch. DAO players have been using this patch for YEARS. If you don't want to use it, that's fine. But I've been using it ever since the patch came out many many years ago.

    Amazing video! just patched my game with no issues But was wondering, what do you recommend to put game graphics in? when I click on restore defaults it puts everything on max lol. I'm gonna be using some mods to enhance graphics anyway. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this video together

    • @btiermutineer

      I use the max visual settings in the game, and have some mods to enhance the textures and such (like DAO Unofficial Remaster and various other texture mods). Just make sure you don't override the application settings with your video driver and you should be fine!

    • @btiermutineer
      @btiermutineer  Місяць тому

      Should work for the ultimate edition, yes. The thing with the missing files may happen for the Steam version, I think - it's worth googling "dragon age origins steam missing files" and if you don't find an answer on the Steam discussions then look on Reddit for some posts about it. The steam version is weird because sometimes it has issues with these missing files and other times it doesn't 🤔 if you can afford to do so, I highly recommend the GOG or EA App versions of DAO!

    I've had this really odd bug were the game just crashes anytime I start it up, it doesn't even load the main menu. I tried the game on both the EA app and on GOG, same problem. Its odd since I had been playing the game on EA for many hours, then suddenly it decided to just stop working. I tried everything, completely uninstalling all mods, the whole game, even the EA app. Nothing worked. Eventually I discovered that the game only ran when I selected 'disable audio' in the configuration.exe. Of cource, that was no way to play it either.
    After troubleshooting for days and nothing working, not even updating or downgrading drivers etc., I finally got it fixed!
    Turns out, when I downloaded the unencrypted DA: Origins.exe from the steam forums, the game suddenly ran without problems. It's strange however, since I do not have the game on steam... Anyway, I'm just happy the game is working again. But I still have no clue why it broke in the first place.

    • @btiermutineer
      @btiermutineer  Місяць тому +1

      @@daanvanderloon5032 probably something weird related to the daorigins.exe that you get normally when installing the game. I believe I also have a version of the unencrypted exe on my computer, so it's very likely I first replaced the original with that before applying the patch to the game. Don't remember very well since the last time I had to install the game on my PC was some years ago when I got a new PC (and I've had it installed ever since). But this is a very useful thing to keep in mind! Thank you for sharing :)

    Followed your guide for the steam version and it crashes after defeating the pride demon during the Harrowing on mage, previously I could at least make it to Ostagar, it was once I left Ostagar that it would ctd every time I tried. Like, am I freaking cursed?

    • @btiermutineer
      @btiermutineer  2 дні тому

      Hmm. I've heard from multiple people that they're having issues with the Steam version of the game. Personally I don't really understand why, as other people have also said it worked for them. But do keep in mind that even with this patch, the game WILL still occasionally crash.
      Another possiblity for which the game crashes, especially if it crashes in a very specific moment or area every time, is due to some mods causing it to do that. I don't know if you're using any mods, and if so which, but you can try disabling most of your mods to try to see if the crash stops happening in that spot. And then re-enable them one by one to see which one was the culprit. I can tell you that some mods that caused extra crashes for me were: spider replacement mod (the ones that turn spiders into deepstalkers or other animals) - so now I use the spider to rock replacement since that one is stable, no helmet hack, and possibly auto looting mods though I'm not 100% sure.
      The best thing I can recommend is to get the game on GOG since it seems the most stable on there, and it should be relatively cheap.

    I am having the worst time with this it is driving me insane, I am trying to instal the patch however I do not see an exe doa anywhere in my bin foldler. just config, updater and regular DAorigins. I tried unzipping the patch, put it into the bin ship. I am now lost, I use steam, I cannot create a shortcut with those properties, I see no configure or anything. I just want to play without it crashing on start up. Someone please help

    • @btiermutineer
      @btiermutineer  Місяць тому +1

      @@aliciafeed2304 DAOrigins is the exe file, you probably just don't have file extensions visible! For the Steam version you first need to replace the DAOrigins file you have with the one from NexusMods that is unencrypted so that you can apply the patch to it. I believe there should also be a pre-patched version of DAOrigins somewhere online, but I'm not 100% certain where.
      Once you have replaced the original DAOrigins with the one from NexusMods, apply the patch to it like I said in the video. Then you should be able to right click DAOrigins (or drag it towards the desktop) and create a shortcut on the desktop. After it's created, you can right click it and go into properties to set up run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and run as administrator.
      However, unfortunately I have heard from some people that they are unable to make the Steam version of the game work at all, even if they tried many different fixes. I don't know why that is. But there's still some hope! There's a reddit post I've seen that mentions a few more possible fixes: www.reddit.com/r/DragonageOrigins/comments/otrgc0/dragon_age_origins_ultimate_edition_wont_boot/
      I've heard from a few people that the Microsoft compatibility thing linked there in the reddit post made their game work, so it's worth a shot.
      If those fixes don't work, though, or you don't have the patience for them, I highly recommend getting the game on GOG instead. The GOG version is the most stable and should be easy to install the patch with it.

      I highly recommend getting thr GOG version of the game. Steam seems to have lots of issues for people (even if some of them manage to patch the game). However! I have also heard about a new mod for DAO that says it fixes the memory leak issue and so it should also fix the crashes. I haven't tried it myself. But since the patch didn't work, you can give it a shot if you're interested: it's called "Performance and Memory Leak Fix - DXVK" and you can find it on NexusMods. You'll still need to patch the game for 4gb - the mod description has details on how to do it. Hope this helps!
