Thank you for watching today's video and SORRY FOR THE FLICKERING! I forgot to switch my shutter speed when filming this one :( I've never made that mistake before so sorry about that!!! And also the random 'Click Analyze to begin' alert at 2:17 lol... so many rookie mistakes from me this week. Anyway, let me know what you think of the Pius Cheung mallets down below! And also if you went to #PASIC19, let me know how it went!! I'm so sad I couldn't go but it is super expensive to fly to the US from Australia on a regular basis... so I'll probably see you at PASIC 2020 :) Speaking of 2020, make sure you check out Marimbafest 2020 at www.marimbafest.com ! #TheStudioFamily
I went to PASIC19 bc my studio won the call of tapes and were invited to play, and it was my first pasic ever, and it was one of the best weeks of this year. It was truly memorable :,)
I met Cheung at UNT this summer and even played a Haydn movement with other students under his direction. Even though he was very critical of my rudimental snare performance for OSAA S&E, I have much respect for him.
These are my absolute favorite mallets I've ever played with. Only problem is I have problems with my tendons and heavy mallets kill my hands after just 20 or 30 minutes of playing Stevens. Very tempted to just switch to cross grip. Lol
You are really underrated. I suck at playing mallets but I started using some of the techniques you use and I could see some improvement in myself overall. Thanks bro.
adam you can't get pure sound with by putting the microphone really close to the marimba... what we are hearing is basicaly a really close sound. causing to be not accurate.
Hey Adam! I've recently found your channel and love watching your mallet reviews. I'm trying to put together a list of marimba mallets to buy for my next semester of music school and I was wondering if you had a recommendation for a good practice mallet. Something durable enough to withstand long practice sessions of exercises and warm ups. Maybe something a little heavier so my muscles get worked harder. Thanks for these awesome videos, you've helped me a lot.
Adam, I know marching stuff isn’t your thing, but would you be willing to do marching mallet reviews? I know you haven’t had any marching experience, and I know you know that marching stuff is more loud and punchy more than concert music. I am rethinking this right now and I realized that it would make no sense for you to do a review on marching stuff when you use indoor concert stuff. I honestly don’t know what I am asking anymore.
Knowing these mallets were created for a person who plays with rattan and traditional grip, do they feel fine with the birch and Steven’s? Because I’m looking for heavy mallets with that heavy sound but I’m not sure how these would feel in my hands.
Hey adam do you think they are good for a lot of marimba solo not merlin, Druckman or stuff like that but Sammut variation, classical repertoire and Burrit composition ?
@@FilipusWisnumurti the low end of the marimba sounds better with softer mallets since the bigger low end bars of a marimba benefit from the soft yarn to resonate and produce a bigger sound. Whereas the high end of the marimba needs a harder mallet to allow the higher notes to speak

I love the sound of these mallets. The softer ones are a bit heavy but I still love them. The Alpaca blend yarn produces a nice smooth sound.
11:12 had me screaming the damn song out
Oh man such a great song hahaha

I love the Cantonese “theme” you had with this episode, especially using “Beyond” songs, as an ABC my dad always played these when I was a kid!
Haha I love that music so much :)) glad it played a part in your life too!!

PASIC was awesome! I was super excited because this was my first time going and my high school got to perform on one of the days!
Finally a review of these mallets. Amazing job!
They sound really good I happen to own a set
I just ordered a pair of Beverly Johnson to replace my 5 year old innovative 300’s

I got to try out this set from a friend last weekend an funny enough, I prefer them over the Zeltsmans. Definitely my favorite graduated set.
I have it, I love IT!!!
Gosh mate, you are such a good musician!
Can you do a review on the Innovative Percussion soloist series? It's the only series my school uses and I'm wondering if they are good mallets.
Ah I don't own one but I've always thought they are ok for a "general mallet" but kind of plain haha
Your Cantonese is so good
Ahaha not really man but thank you!!
Just wondering what you were playing at around 7 min
It's my marimba duo Meet Again :)
Omg all the CantoPop!

Just curious, what tape are you using on those sticks? My hands always get sweaty and I need some good grippy tape! Your videos are great btw!
I put grey camo Wilson overgrips on them (tennis tape), I like tennis tape the best because it's cheap and it absorbs sweat :) thanks for watching!

Because I’m looking for heavy mallets with that heavy sound but I’m not sure how these would feel in my hands.
Yes I actually think they feel more controllable with the birch! 😁

Has anyone else found that the red is harder than the orange? It's very slight but i think the orange is softer which is kinda annoying
Hey Adam, does marimba one typically do a bogo for Christmas? I’m really wanting to get some mallets from them but don’t want to spend a fortune.
Also keep up the amazing work love the studio!
Haha they don't really, but you might see some sales from retailers around that time; especially if they still have stock of the older gen models!
These are the good mallet
Is it a nice bass mallet? The black?
Your channel needs more recognition
Nice Cantonese 👏👏
Hahaha still needs work!!!
What tape are you using?
What do you wrap your sticks with?

@@rubenoliveira2501 Why is it set that way? Or maybe why would anyone play with 4 mallets each with different hardness?
