Officer Madina should have never been responsible for this investigation. She had an existing, personal relationships with the victim. It is not possible for her to succeed to be unbiased in that circumstance.
That is not a criticism of yourself or how you have handled this interview, Officer Madina. You have done admirably. But it was *unfair and unjust* to both Mrs Whistle and Officer Madina to ask her to attempt such a thing. I wouldn't even ask an AI for that.

As it sounds the officers are not really in charge of anything. They read the charges, read the questions, and keep the prisoner on subject. They don't get to pick questions and I don't think they even get a vote.
That said Malinda should recuse herself if ROT trials have that function. I would think they do not since the system is basically a very slow moving form of mob justice.

I get the voice acting is valuable and so they probably want to stick to the 8 questions, and I get part of the game is that we have some influence over the questions, so if we want to goof around that's to our peril, but in a setting like this, realistically it feels like the ROT system should have contingencies for this kind of situation. If some dummy wanted to troll and ask someone on trial "Do you like chocolate or vanilla ice cream?", if feels like those questions would hopefully be disregarded and the asker on Concretta left with a warning to take these questions seriously, perhaps under threat of being put to ROT for concept of the ROT system by messing around during a serious interrogation where someone's life in on the line.

I saw questions about Mrs. Whistle's papers, none of which were asked in the Interrogation. There were concerns that Mrs. Whistle is being prompted or coached or otherwise coerced, but seeing how shaken up she is (and how scatterbrained her husband seems to be; birds of a feather, after all), I'm starting to think her papers are just perfectly innocent notes _she_ wrote _herself,_ in order to better maintain her composure, make the best impression, and take the best advantage of the time she had before us. It's probably for the best that these questions didn't make the cut after all, especially considering the... uh... _feather pillow_ inquiry taking up a question slot.

It is clear that, in this instance, Officer Madina is acting strictly professionally, which is more than can be asked when handling the murderer of your mentor. Citizens, we must recall that this case revolves around a Premeditated Murder. While we cannot confirm or deny the psyche of Mrs. Whistle, this action is severe, and should be responded to with the same level of severity. For those of you sympathetic to Mrs. Whistle and her frustration at the system, we must recall that both her ward and her livelihood will be revoked upon reintegration. Due to the nature of the confessed crime, surrounding circumstances, and a pattern of behavior which is indicative of anti-establishment actions, I cannot bring myself to vote for Mrs. Whistle's release, however, I believe that the confessor's behavior is indicative of a possible second chance. While it may be against her wishes, I believe the best course of action, both for Mrs. Whistle and the community of Concretta, is to vote for ostracization. I honestly feel bad for everyone on the ship who haven't experienced the luxury of feather pillows. But why was that even a raffle question? 🤣🤣
Linus' case seemed valid to me, but he did interrupt several times, especially in questions not directed to him. The late officer didn't show a hint of malice towards Linus in his voice from what I could tell. But based on this interview, it appears that Mrs. Whistle is a bit snappy and doesn't trust any officers in general. Perhaps this is due to her misreading of her husband's trial.
For anyone curious, the face that flashed on screen over Officer Madina at 6:27 was the late officer. Also, during the big electrical surge during Oma-ZerO's question (gz on getting selected, btw!) the screen seemed to focus centrally on the word "Troubled", with it glitching to take up the screen. Just some neat details to point out.

Definitely feel split between "R" and "O". I don't know how comfortable I would feel setting a precedent for murder-related releases though, especially when it wasn't nearly as biased against Linus as initially assumed. His ostracization was because of his negligence on duty, and failure to fully accept the reality of his situation.
Murder is a VERY big crime to justify, and I don't think her actions were justified. She committed premeditated murder, and while she claims she "didn't want him to suffer", she still went through with the act.
There should definitely be some form of social services or support system for those close to ROT convicts who get Ostracized or Terminated, to prevent cases like this happening again.

    Ostracize.
Mr. Whistle's case was, by his own admission, one of gross negligence evidently resulting in severe consequences for unsuspecting, innocent personnel. The officer Termins, responsible for the investigation, while sounding harsh, seemed to me to have only kept the interrogation on-track as per standard procedure, and did not come off as holding any negative bias towards Mr. Whistle.
Ms. Whistle committed an act of premeditated murder, and did so by abusing the trust placed upon her as part of her job function. Even if it were the case that Mr Whistle's case was handled improperly- which I do not believe that it was- Ms. Whistle had no right to take another's life only for performing his regular work duties.
Simply ending Ms. Whistle's life would not be an act of justice, only one of revenge. We should not go looking for a third eye simply because two have been taken, but nor should Ms. Whistle have taken one of her own. She must not be allowed to go unpunished for her actions.

It's a very concerning thought process to go immediately to murder, I think ostracization would be the best option. If she will lose the child anyways, and it won't remember her, then there is no real reason to be so concerned. which then also goes into the morality process of a child without a constant parent or a parent without a constant child...I really like the world building I'm so ready to see more oh ma GAWSH

Thanks for putting in the effort to show us basically the entire back half of the Linus Whistle case, for me that was real deciding factor to vote R. Sure, he was negligent, but he never should’ve been allowed into that position in the first place! You could argue his referring manager buddy is just as guilty as him. The half dozen engineers who were charged as responsible for the Chernobyl Disaster only got like 10 years prison time maximum; and it isn’t even clear if Linus’ blunder killed anybody or just massively inconvenienced two living quarters. Did he deserve to die (probably) over that? These are flaws of the ROT system laid bare

    I’d say Ostracize.
She committed a murder, and in no situation is that ever justified. Even worse still, I fail to see how any reasonable person could reason that Mr. Whistle’s ROT to be anything but by the books, and completely unbiased. Officer Termins appeared to have done his duties well, and for that, I salute him as a fallen member of our colony.
Furthermore, we cannot allow killers to run around freely in the community with almost no punishment. Not only is it immoral and disrespects the life taken, but it also sets a bad precedent for future cases. Perhaps someone thinks, “Hey, that one woman got off Scot free when she got revenge, why not I try to do the same?”.
As I said above, I believe no murder is justified, and as such, I will never, under any circumstance, vote to terminate. However, it would be a disgrace to our justice system, and to Officer Termins, if we were to simply release Mrs. Whiskers. As such, the only option left, is to ostracize.

Admittedly I felt some of the questions were a bit silly my fellow ROTers, neither helping get a grasp on life in this society, nor helping in the case. Such as the feather pillow question and the question of R or O, since Mrs. Whistle was pretty adamant about being released in the first place. A better question there would have been to ask whether O or T, since she describes life as nothing but a prolonged death. Personally I voted O, since while she is no longer a threat to others. She still did commit premeditated murder, no matter how good her reasoning was.
Once we start letting people get away with such extreme things such as murder, we can't expect murders not to rise.

However: I feel it has distracted us from the fact that Mrs. Whistle murdered someone. She took someone's life because she percieved a bias against her husband during his ROT trial. She may regret the decision, she may have a child she cares about, but it does not change that someone was murdered. That cannot go unpunished. My vote is on O due to the crime of premeditated murder, but the whole case calls into question the entire mechanisms of ROT as a whole. Officer Madina obviously has no place arbitrating this case, through no fault of her own, as she has a direct relationship with the victim. Additionally, it doesn't seem that Mr. Whistle was prepared for his case at all.
Mrs. Whistle seemed to believe her husband was cut off at several instances, but we heard the procedure and I did not hear a small amount of input from him. It seemed most of his input was simply nerves and off-topic, not helping his own case. I'd mostly agree with Officer Madina's assessment that, from what we've seen so far, the procedure was fairly standard.
I don't believe Mrs. Whistle's actions to be justified, but I'd also move for the entire process to be declared a mistrial here. Especially given at least one question was clearly far from relevant to the case.

OK, sorry y'all, but I gotta talk this ish out.
First off, on the matter of Linus: yes, it was absolutely gross negligence. I'm sorry, Abaca, but we listened to the recording, too, and at worst, Termins was trying to redirect and focus Linus. The REAL issue her is that Linus himself straight up admits he had NO prior qualifications, and merely got the job through a referral. So, what happened to the man who referred Linus to that job? Because HE was ultimately responsible for hiring him.
With regards to Abaca's plea's and claimed wishes to stay, and watch Gene grow-first off, her parental rights are to be terminated effective immediate, so she won't SEE him any more again, anyways, except maybe in passing. Secondly, and where I take REAL issue, if you WANTED to stay that badly, raise Gene that badly, why would you poison someone? Did you think it wouldn't be traced by to you? By doing this, now EVERY SINGLE FOOD HANDLER is under scrutiny, whether for better or worse. And if you were caught, you were never going to see him again anyways. So, why? I dunno, y'all: can't wrap my tired noodle around it.
Finally, she claims this was a premeditated murder, that no one else is at risk of being murdered by her hands. Here's the thing: if it was a crime of passion, I feel like you'd want to risk the planet, just on the off hope and chance that Linus was alive. And if it WASN'T, then you have VERY poor impulse control.
Mmm...thanks for letting me talk this out-I think I know my vote.

But... we also know that there's no contact between Concrutta and The Planet at all, and everyone is forced to survive on their own with other people who were ostracized. And yet, I feel like Concrutta is the opposite extreme, everything regimented and controlled to the minor details of the time you're a baby (and not even born biologically, but grown in a life bank?) to an elder, people clearly are suffering in jobs they're unqualified for because everyone is understaffed. There barely seems to be any sort of comforts or joy here, with the officers keeping everyone on a tight leash. It makes me wonder, "Is The Planet really all that bad?" I'm genuinely curious, given there's no contact.

    • @VuldEdone
      @VuldEdone 2 місяці тому +3

My guess would be yes, it's exactly that bad.
Take the premise we have: a station orbiting the wastes of a derelict mining dwarf planet. From there, an easy hypothesis: the station was part of the mining operation. Dock, trading, monitoring, comms, who cares. With that in mind, the station was there for the glory days of that mining planet, back when it was an okay dystopia to live on. And then the obvious happened: the mines ran out. Or were priced out or whatever.
From there, we know all communications are down. Taking that at face value, we can write off a simple backwater planet: there would still be communities, tech' and comms'. In fact, the wealthy would be better off down there. So again, the simplest hypothesis: it is heavily polluted due to the mining operations. Make it as bad as it needs to get for the infrastructure to collapse and you get ~7k among the wealthiest taking refuge on the last functional place there is. Possibly jettisoning the old crew for space.
Without more information, I assume that Concrutta is the remnant of a catastrophe; a bit like a Fallout shelter or zombie survivors. Just replace radiations and flesh eaters with the kind of pollution our landfills and mercury rivers barely approach.
Which brings me to the station's regimen.
Imagine a station never built for autharcy, let alone holding 7k people, suddenly flooded with the 0.001% wealthiest. They had to reinvent their society on top of the infrastructure. Normally this would lead to a police state -- and summary executions -- but here you have an officer saying "sorry" to a convict. ROT is clearly for entertainment, not justice, a way to feel in control despite the station itself likely breaking down. I personally think the officers are like everyone else: too few, ill-trained and trembling in their boots.

I don't like the way this interview was conducted. Why was the Feathered Pillows question chosen? Why was an officer with such a close relationship with the victim chosen as the leading officer for this assignment. Mr. Whistle's case also feels mishandled. The second question asked him for his qualifications. The third question assumed that he is unqualified and had nothing to do with the case at hand, merely asking for future-proofing unqualified hires. I believe Ostracizing Mr. Whistle was a mistake, as his crime is merely being hired for something he did not have the qualifications for. There needs to be some serious work at ROT to make sure that there is no bias or malice when handling a case. While I believe Officer Madina is trying to remain unbiassed, she should not have been placed on this case.

Ostracize. This was a premediated murder for apparently short sighted revenge, in response to Officer Termins simply doing his job of mediation to the book, directing Mr. Whistle to answer questions straightforwardly. Mr. Whistle's ostracization is a clear result of the scale of consequence through his negligence in a field which he chose to enter through a process that did not ensure proper qualifications. Mrs. Whistle is too high risk to be allowed to be released even with the proposed restrictions, her promise to not do something like this again rings hollow with the reportedly fickle circucumstance of the crime.

But after seeing her husband's trial and his.. reactions.. I can't help but think of what Ms. Whistle did as not only a premeditated attack, with honestly very little remorse. Even though she didn't like the outcome, Officer Termins seemed to do his job, and not an easy job at that, as well as can be expected.
She wants us to only sympathize with her side of things. To imagine her leaving a tiny baby all alone growing up without his parents. But the reality is, even without there being two trials to tear up her family, she would only have her son for 3 years anyway. She'd be just 1 in a line of many others for him, and considering he's still very young, her not being apart of his life anymore now, wouldn't haven't anymore of a lasting affect on him than a few years from now.
Not to mention, she seems almost convinced she'll still get to be apart of his life somehow if she stays. The Whistle family is certainly an unstable bunch.. I worry where that could possibly lead
I officially vote TERMINATE. Remember, this isn't just a trial for her. Others on the ship will see the results and be shaped by them. How many others would commit murder if they knew they could sob and expect termination wouldn't really be an issue?
How many do you think ACTUALLY want to go planetside and would use this as an excuse?
What if Mr. Whistle isn't actually the moron he seemed to be...
Murder is one of the worst things you can do! It needs REAL consequences!
    TERMINATE!!!

I like the addition of the icons since the last interrogation. This time we are able to clearly see which citizen's questions are a result of upvote or raffle. Based on the icons it looks like the yellow arrows are upvotes from the patron comment section, the red arrows are from the comment section here, the red tickets are the randomly selected comments from here, and the blue tickets are randomly chosen comments from the server. I also listed the time stamps of all the questions below with some added commentary pertaining to certain questions
00:36 raffle chosen comments from the server and this comment section.
1:27 patron and regular comment upvotes.
5:54 patron upvote. Was there a glitch there? Officer Medina read the question as directed to her but her name wasn't present on the screen as part of the question like the others directed at her.
6:57 regular comment upvote. 7:53 server raffle.
8:19 regular comment upvote. 9:24 patron upvote.
9:58 Comment section upvote. What does this question add to the interrogation? While it can be beneficial to understand what Mrs. Whistle would prefer to help indecisive citizens vote, at the end of the day a felon can plead to be found not guilty and still be found guilty.
    Final comments :
While all of these questions have aided in widening our general understanding of the system and the day to day lives of the citizens, some of them weren't the most beneficial to this specific case. While there is nothing we can do about the raffle comments, we should be very mindful of which comments we upvote in the future. All in all, I think I will vote Ostracize. While I feel very sympathetic towards Mrs. Whistle, as many have mentioned, even if she is released her parental rights will be stripped anyways. Let's not forget she *murdered* a person. At the end of the day, for the safety of everyone involved, it's best to just Ostracize her. Sorry Mrs. Whistle.

This is a really tough one. On one hand while I am wary of authority figures at the best of times, I didn't see any evidence of outright tampering with the case. On the other hand the focus on qualifications in Mr. Whistle's case could be seen as leading and his responses make me wonder how exactly jobs are being filled and if consideration is being made for those with disabilities or difficulties concentrating. It sounded like he was financially desperate and shouldn't have been placed in that position, and Mrs. Whistle's anger is justified albeit misplaced. I am not sure how I want to vote.
Also I could be wrong but the inclusion of a wildly off topic question in place of an informative question could be seen as suspicious but maybe I am overthinking things

I find ostracizing MR Whistles for his job negligence unfair
His lack of training and skill should have been a priority for the employees who hired him, if he was released, chances are he’d been put in jobs more suitable for his performance levels and avoid high-stakes jobs
But the buttons and screens glitching out are also a concern, it could be possible that his sentence was a glitch…?
Still, MRS Whistles resort to killing is a serious concern, she also shifted the blame on an individual when it’s the community that votes

I feel like Ostracize is the best decision here, it was already a mess for the husband and if they were released, people wouldn't trust her at all due to murdering with poison in any other field or opening, ontop of losing the right to raise kids.
It's really iffy to me that she wants to stay on the station and did all this because her husband also got ostracized, but if her husband is alive also doesn't want to see him? Even if he is in a bad state they still would have each other even in the face of uncertainty.

Honestly guys I feel like we didn’t get enough info here. Most of these questions revolves around her husband’s case and we really only got one question where we were able to see what she thought of her own murder of Termins.
As for officer Medina being biased on this case, I agree she probably shouldn’t have been chosen for this. However she did tell us straight up he was her mentor, she could have lied and kept that from us, but instead she gave us transparency.
Frankly, it sounds like her husband was negligent and as in the video we saw, termins did not overextend his control. He appeared calm and collected and was only harsh when occasionally redirecting mr. Whistle back on topic. Perhaps there’s more we missed but this seems like a negligent employee who put many other lives at risk was given a fair trial and his wife murdered an officer for that.
    It’s a tough one…

After observing the tape of Mr. Whistle's case, I do not perceive any wrong doing on Officer Termins. Though, I do not believe Mr. Whistle deserved to be ostracized after observing those same tapes.
On the topic of Mrs. Whistle's case, I cannot in good conscious vote to release. Premeditated murder cannot be met with such lax punishment. I vote to ostracize. Hopefully what is said about the planet is false, and she is reunited with her husband.

It seems that Ms. Whistle is afraid of something but we don’t know what she’s afraid of. She also seems highly bipolar with one emotion being confused and scared while the other is angry and possibly dangerous (As shown with one of the questions). Personally I would let her be released as she could be dangerous but she seems like she had a good reason to do what she did (NOT saying what she did was right)

    I Vote Termination
Fellow residents of Concreta, Mrs. Whistle's prior confession should not be taken as a plea for leniency, but a chilling admission of a deliberate, premeditated crime. Not just the murder of one of our beloved ROT officers. But on the very principles of our ROT justice system.
Officer Termins is dead because Mrs. Whistle's husband was ostracized and Mrs. Whistle did not like that outcome. Plain and simple. Clearly, Mrs. Whistle had no real real evidence that Officer Termins had in some way influenced that result of her husbands call to ROT. If he did influence the case, Officer Termins would be in front of us right now and we could judge him and determine his fate. But no. Mrs. Whistle took the law into her own hands, acting as judge, jury, and executioner. Instead to letting her fellow 7000 residents determine the matter, She found her one, single vote to be more important that all our votes combined. This is a dangerous precedent. If we allow such actions to go unpunished, we undermine the very foundation of our justice system. Mrs. Whistle chose murder over the proper channels available to her. While these channels might be long and bureaucratic, they exist to protect our society from anarchy and ensure that grievances are addressed in a lawful manner.
Her actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the rule of law and a belief that she is above it. This cannot stand. We must send a clear message that vigilantism, no matter the perceived justification, will not be tolerated. The severity of this crime demands a harsh punishment. In this Space station, we are not just deciding the fate of one individual, but also upholding the principles of justice and the rule of ROT. The proper punishment for such a heinous act must reflect the gravity of the crime and serve as a deterrent to others who might think to follow a similar path.
I urge you to consider your vote and vote for a severe penalty. Mrs. Whistle's was also in charge of Officer Termins rations. Poisoning him in that manner could lead to a breakdown of trust in the ration system. A lucky job position combined with a delusional idea of previous events cannot be a license to kill a ROT officer. Mrs. Whistle's actions warrant a strong response to reaffirm our commitment to justice and to honor the memory of the Officer who was murdered in cold blood. Let us ensure that the scales of justice are balanced and that the rule of law prevails. Mercy to the Guilty is Cruelty to the Innocent!
    Vote Termination!

All she wants is to see her baby, but if she is released, she will not have the privilege of raising her baby, and will lose them to the legal system, just like she lost her husband to the legal system. There is a non-zero chance that release could result in her then targeting officer madina. For this reason, I do not believe she should remain on board.

While Mr. Whistle seems like an overall pleasant person, I believe it's his unreliability that that earned him his O vote, not any particular swaying from Termins. I wouldn't even trust him with communications or even paperwork, let alone maintaining the hull of the ship in any regard. Keeping him on board was a timebomb, and another accident waiting to happen. You cloud blame that incident occurring to his referral as he was clearly not qualified, but nonetheless, what happened happened, people's homes were probably decimated, lives were in danger, and given the choice, people chose to get rid of him.
Mrs. Whistle has every right to be upset with the verdict, but to murder a retiring officer? Termins, to me, treated the situation exactly as Madina did for True. He tried to keep things on topic and kept him from answering questions directed for just the officer (which is more a fault on the people asking than him, as we saw in the True case). Termins was not corrupt, that's why her rallys against him went nowhere, he was simply doing his job, something I'm sure is very hard to do underneath the surface. I don't think Termins did anything to slant the vote, Mr. Whistle did it to himself, especially with the "Team-Building Retreat" line in referral to people losing their homes.
By doing what she did, Mrs. Whistle set a precedent. It's "okay" to attack Officers such as Madina if you do not like the result of an R.O.T.. It is "okay" to shoot the messenger, and I am not okay with that. What happens if someone doesn't like Madina for a R.O.T. case and tries to make a move against her? If we release her, people might start thinking what she did was okay, and we need to set an example.
I vote Ostracize. I would love for her to be with Gene, but if she really cared about him, she wouldn't have done what she did. I'm glad Gene is only cycle 1, because he's not going to remember who he is about to lose, and I pray all those who may have had Termins close to their hearts get closure from this.
