Back in the 90s my dad did a respray on my brothers datsun was sort of a custom build but we ended up using the original gold colour , half way through my dad used a green coat to be show all the highs and lows son we could sand all the areas flat seems like the same here , we were looking at a custom paint job originally but it was decided to go for an original look wish I had had more say I. The build at 15 . ....
Hi mate. Another great episode. I’m pretty new to all of this. I understand putting an epoxy over the poly to seal it up but how come you need a different primer over the epoxy to put your colour on?
Epoxy isn't a primer as such. It's loosely called "Epoxy Primer" but in essence it's a sealer. It doesn't act as a primer. Poly is a spray filler, so you need to re epoxy over the poly to seal it as if you were doing bog work. Primer, the actual primer, is then put over the epoxy which will act as the bonding agent to both the epoxy and the final coat, which is paint. Hope that helps.
I do this all day. But I just sat and watched block sanding of all things! FOR OVER AN HR! Oh well I guess I have a problem. Sniffed too many fumes and dust particles I reckon. 😅
There's something soothing about watching Howard go about his work. I also dig the Mirka dustless system too. To have no dust while doing all this dry rubbing must be a God send. I remember back in the day, my whole garage, including myself would be covered in a thick layer of bog dust. I'd have to blow myself off with the air blower outside, then spend many minutes sweeping and hosing out the garage floor. I hope to get something like the Mirka when I get back into this kind of work. I want to really try to minimize dust.
another great episode Howard, any tips on stopping ppg hardner going hard in the tin, went to my local paint shop he showed me a new unopened tin which had gone off on the shelf, and its not cheap.
I’ll check with the boys at PPG, but I’m thinking keeping at a low temp would help. Storing in an old fridge for instance. Wouldn’t even need to be turned on. It certainly works for tubes of sealer and urethane.
