Audi Matrix LED technology
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 жов 2014
- Our incredible Matrix Beam headlights are made up of five separate LED units which automatically detect light from other vehicles on the road. When another car’s headlights are detected ahead, individual LEDs intuitively switch off to effectively split the full-beam and avoid dazzling fellow drivers. This means that you can get a better view of that dark country road with your full-beam headlights constantly on. Watch our video to see Matrix Beam technology in action.

This was 9 YEARS AGO?! I thought I was watching a trailer for this year! Truly incredible
same
me too lol
bro, its 9 years ago not 29 years ago, so dramatic af
@@epicmetodyes that was ages ago
9 years? Probably all starting to break and owners are searching it up.
Imagine not being blinded by any car with headlights today 🤯
This is actually awesome
I saw this only once on road. I noticed something strange right away. I was alone on highway and I noticed car far behind with very dim headlights. After few minutes it passed by me and not once did it blind me. Only thing giving it away was that cars headlights were illuminating road if front of me better than mine from half a mile behind. Truly amazing.
It's unfortunately illegal in the US. Tesla for example has had this in their US vehicles for a while but has it disabled in software for legal reasons.
@@keco185 I love American car regulations so much
Yet all the trucks with their LED headlights on eye level and brighter than sun are okay@@keco185
@@keco185No, it's legal. Tesla just sucks at doing it. It's like if a company made seatbelts which broke. Their cars aren't banned because of poor regulation but due to poor manufacturers.
This is the kind of stuff we never knew we wanted in a car
One of the most useful automotive inventions of the 21st century
Dang they got you, nothing wrong with a normal projector lense. halogen projectors look as good..
@@samuelhicks8277 Not even close lol! Once you try this you will understand.....there is ZERO chance a normal projector comes close. Between my LS460 with full AFS and the A8s there is simply no contest
@@mutiracialbeatdownPB I got Ls460 calipers on my Tacoma my boy, I built a set hid and bought a set sequential LED.. but aight
@@samuelhicks8277 Cool and I own the car you took your brakes off of.
Audi drivers never turned their brights off so Audi had to engineer this
Truth
I am here because the US finally approved these a whopping 8 years after this video.
I didn't even know they approved them
What is it with America and being hella late to adopt automotive standards?
@@mrsoisauce9017 We use Europe as free gunnie pigs.
@@Ranstone You are all are clealy doing it wrong then xD
@@RanstoneWhile your gov uses you as a cow and milks you dry 😂
I bet it works 100% and I will never be dazzled by an Audi driver ever.
I've had this on my last 3 cars, it works great.
Amazing video, now I know which cars blind me in oncoming traffic when I drive or walk in the city
It’s always teslas.
@@melvinmcfly4498true they’re very bright
The exact, and only point of this that you missed is that this fixes that by not illuminating the eyes of oncoming drivers
Some people are so cynical and unthankful, we should appreciate advances like this that finally are reaching the US thanks to our laws only being 8 or so years out of date compared to the rest of the world with regard to automotive lighting
@@melvinmcfly4498tesla helped push the legalization of such matrix headlights that will avoid blinding people, again, remarkably tone deaf and missing the point
Audi made them almost a decade earlier but they were never legal in the US until recently, around when Tesla started building them into cars
@@myid9876543 I know that headlights like this are designed to not blind people, and if Tesla helped legalize it, why are their headlights the worst and most blinding on the road?
the headlights of an audi got more tech than an entire dacia sandero
A pair of those headlights probably cost as much as a whole Dacia Sandero.
There's another far simpler, far cheap technology to accomplish this that's been around for half a century- (vertical) polarized headlights combined with (horizontal) polarized windshields, just like polarized sunglasses. The issue is that you need to get all the major manufacturers to agree to make it standard for it to be effective.
this would make mounting and repaiting lights 25 times harder, and also much more expensive glass, less ambient light trough windshield, and needs total standardisation, for every car in every country - straight up impossible
also what about for example motorbikes or so
@@avovk1852It's a lot cheaper than the technology in this vid. A lot safer too.
I say this on every video. One day science and reason will win out man, hang in there.
When you polarize light, you lose 50% of its intensity on average
So… 50% tint on all windshields? 50% drop in light efficiency in the headlights (that glass is going to get H O T)
Vs a couple of cameras, a calculator’s worth of compute, switches, and an LED strip 😅
Man this beat is dope
It's a KAYTRANADA beat BTW. Sorry for being 5 years late
Thought I was high
They come with a built in eyetracker to blind me in oncoming traffic.
“Our headlights are so bright that it’s hazardous, and we’ve know this for decades so now we’ve introduced this technology that’ll never be on our base models”
Its why I have pair of night driving glasses like sunglasses for night driving.
That's pretty cool.
Can't wait until I can afford one of these cars used in about 10 years!
This car is already 10 years old, it’s about 20k the *cheapest*
When all the lights have been replaced with cheap aftermarket ones 😢
You can forget about these working past the 5 year warranty, let alone a decade lmao. 2500 bucks to replace each one
Matrix lights aren’t legal in the US yet. Americans don’t get to benefit front Audi’s new headlight tech.😢
With a burned out headlight that the previous owner didn't replace as it's 3.5K instead of the 5€ of a normal one
Now imagine: two cars with the same technology are driving opposite each other. One of them turns off the panel opposite the other, which in response to the sudden darkness from there turns on the light in this car. The first, seeing this, turns off the LED in response, to which the second car turns it on again...
Hence, why they were illegal for 8 years. (In the US)
@@Ranstonewhat about now
i'd laugh hard at both cars doing a blinking war as they pass
When high beams are switched off, low beams are still on and bright enough so the other car doesnt turn its high beams on...

Did this just randomly appear in everyone’s reccomended aol of a sudden?😊
Just this week got the software upgrade in our Tesla Model Y that activates this. Well done Audi being so far ahead.
Not "this" Tesla system may look similiar, but it's still behind against a 10 year old technology.

8 years later and I’m still not sure what Audi cars have it if any. It should trickled down by now IMHO.

It's not Audi technology, It's HELLA.
This is soo smart, please add this in a car
Its in the Audi A8 D4
Bruh this got recommended to me 9 years later I never even knew technology like that existed
They also flash arround a Corner somehow, interesting stuff.
this got recommended to me
Hope the headlights are resistant to non covered sun exposure, otherwise headlight fade would make the feature blind oncoming drivers and loose precise separation of the projection. It’s a shame that the US didn’t fully allow these types of lights long ago.
9 YEARS AGOOOOO!?!??!!?!?!? I THOUGHT I WAS WATCHING SOMETHING NEW
So what happens if both cars are an Audi… ? 👀
Audi Headlights😎
Its also linked to the satnav so when you cross the English channel from the UK to France it automatically switches over the lights for driving on the right.
Seriously?
yeah with LED Matrix lights you don't kneed to put tape on your lights anymore when crossing like before@@khalid.h-2809
Nowadays, many cars with built-in sat nav do that. It can be activated in the car settings.
Wow
Please build good cars again, I don't wanna loose you Audi!!!

Cool headlight bro, can you make a belt starter generator that lasts more than 10k miles though?
😂
just noticed its from 9 years ago, wow...
9 year ago tech is showing now in my recommendation
So uh, when is this coming out? Its been 9 years!
wow
Audi is the first brand to introduce LED lights in car.
You know what I thought: a screen -> bad apple/rick roll. Though very cool feature.
I usually just reorient my sideview mirrors to reflect pickup drivers' headlights right back at them... But I guess being passive is another way to go.
I bet this is not effective against pick up drivers
wow 9 years ago I just found it December 2023
So i need to blind the opposing car that is an audi, to save my own vision? Genius!
this is killa cats by kaytranada! Fucking insane !!
I'll believe it when they stop showing CG. Also as so many vehicles on the road today has bad misaligned, even the passenger light blinds you. So even if the driver side turns off on this matrix I don't think the passenger side will do anything but blind you still since well light floods an area and not travel in only a controlled straight line.
надо себе такие вары на восьмерку поставить. во круто будет!
I refuse to believe this was almost a decade ago...
some times i want other drivers to turn off their high beams so i need to get my high beam in their eyes
Cool.. What if everyone had an audi .. you'd have blind accidents??
I was thinking that. But I realised that you can still see the lights but just can't see it in full brightness
Thats wat its made for.. the eliminated light will help the oncoming vehicle 2 see but it wont obstructs its visibility
It's for high beams, not low beams...
as an engineer, the first thing that came into my mind was that it was going to be hard/expensive to fix
That kind of synced up with the music
so how much does it cost to fix, once it goes wrong? As much as a small city car? As much as yearly insurance for youngsters? 2 arms and 3legs?
About $2.5k for parts, probably another grand in labor if you have an Audi dealer do it
Why i found this 8 yrs later
hence why audi is at the top 👍
Can it play Bad Apple?
9 yrs ago????😮
So, basically the headlights of this Audi are a low resolution black and white Video projector.
Can I program them to all concertante into the retina of the peasant in the Honda in front of me going just 200kmh
can yall give this technology to the truck manufactures please
On a insignia it works better, it has 90 leds on every headlight so its more precise
The stupid part about this, is the base light is still too bright to the point that it might aswell be seen as a highbeam too
My car still doesn't have this in North America in spite of having the traffic camera, and the same matrix LEDs as EU cars. Thanks NHTSA!
Great explanation but what's the tune?

Audi Headlight 🔋
Can't wait to play pong on this
I would like to see how well that lights works now :) already broken? How many drivers has been flashed by full beam because of failures?
I work at a car dealer here in Finland where these have been common for as long as they've existed (long dark months in winter), and surprisingly I've never seen or heard of one with any technical problems. It's a quite robust system, but it's really not that good at not blinding you. The lights are extremely bright, and when one of these comes over a hill it will dazzle you for 0.5s, which is enough to cause a problem. Much worse for fellow road users than halogen/hid short beams, but they're quite good when you're driving one for yourself
@@MrMats0n yea, if You are thinking only about yourself then such lights are awesome :) but ofcourse we are not riding on our private roads :)
