beep boop - totally human Dan and Phil here to say you can download Empires & Puzzles today on the Appstore and Google Play!! bit.ly/4afnUQs thanks for sponsoring our video!
I've been playing Empires & Puzzles for like 4 years now but watching Dan and Phil try to sell it to me weirds me out lol. I feel seen and I don't like it XD
I'm picturing a Law & Order style television show. Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about the legal system in the UK. I will not be writing this fanfic
This game gives me skeeves, but thinking that they maybe would have become best friends as a lawyer and forensic phonetician makes me very very happy. My 2014 Tumblr self wants a wholesome fanfic so bad.
As a long-time Dan and Phil fan who was around when Dan was still in College and remembers those old UA-cam videos. In that universe, Dan would be a miserable sack of potatoes struggling through life... more so than usual :D
Yeah I actually would watch this. I don't typically watch his content alone. Or Dan's really although I did like his web series. But hearing Phil talk about something that he's excited about that's knowledge-based would be super cool
I always love the moments that Phil gets to step out of his goofy goober branding and teach something! I love goofy goober Phil as much as anybody, but he's also a smart guy who knows stuff and I like to hear him talk about it. Also, as a fellow English and Linguistics major, I have a soft spot in my heart for it.
as a linguistics major who is completely checked out for christmas break, you can imagine the whiplash i got from hearing phil say "hello dan and phil games labiodental fricatives"
Watching this is wild because I basically learnt English by watching your videos, and this year I graduated with a Master's degree in English philology
Phil with his linguistics major 🤝 me being deaf and going through years of speech therapy, both randomly starting conversations by talking about where words are formed in your mouth ✨️
Honestly listening to Phil talk about everything he learned for his degree was pretty cool! I love hearing both of them talk about things that interest them, even if they aren't "on theme"
I’m always like “I’ll save the video for work tomorrow so I can have something nice to watch while I work” and then I drop everything every single time they upload to watch it. I have no self control.
i graduated with a degree in linguistics earlier this year and cannot express how embarrassingly excited i was when phil started the video talking about labio-dental fricatives
i’m so happy to see linguistic lester’s return and considering the fact that he introduced me to linguistics and is the reason i’m doing a linguistics major - i’m so so proud to know what he’s talking about. i was smiling throughout the entire video
im gonna be so honest as someone who did not learn english as a first language and hated growing up feeling like i didnt fully ever grasp it like i should have i would LOVE just a video of phil talking about what he finds most interesting abt linguistics ngl
I'm Brazilian and I graduated in Languages (English and Portuguese), but the English phonetics class was an absolute nightmare for me because not only it was in the second semester (and I didn't know much then), but also it was American English focused (and I was used to pronounce some words the "British way" because I learnt mostly from British culture), so the professor would always correct me to use the American pronunciation, even in tests (/tɔl/ was right and /tɔːl/ was wrong). But I had my sweet redemption in the final semesters, when the listening tests had extremely British audios and I did well because I was used to hear you talking, so thanks ❤
i love using gamingmas to learn that what is learnt for an acting voice class is also just phil’s degree, makes me feel so much smarter and better about my choices
It is weird to think about the fact that if Dan and Phil had decided to live normal lives, Phil would probably work for the police and Dan would be a Lawyer-
Ohmy god I want Phil to just do educational videos about phonetics now that is actually so cool. Like I would totally sit there and listen to him lecture on this this is so fascinating to me. I wanna learn abt forensic phonetics pleaseee
PHIL YOU WOULD BE SUCH AN AMAZING LINGUISTICS TEACHER😭 I CAN IMAGINE HOW INTERESTING AND FUNNY YOUR CLASSES WOULD BE (AND EVERYONE WOULD BE SO IN LOVE WITH YOU LOL)
as a fellow person with a linguistic bachelors degree that i do not use in any professional sense i feel represented by phil showing off as i too attempt to interweave niche bits of phonetics into conversation to make up for the fact that i had to learn how to produce every single sound in the international phonetic alphabet as homework
I would so be up for a linguistics with Lester video. also the way dan's accent has evolved over the last 14 years is so interesting and he definitely pronounces some things more northern because of living with Phil for so long
I also studied linguistics in college, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! Listening to Phil geek out about it at the beginning of the video and dropping fun facts about speech sounds just made me feel so happy. I got all excited, like "yeah!!!!!!!! isn't it so cool!!!!!!!!!!!" I love telling people stuff like "did you know that /d/ and /t/ is actually the same sound except one of them is voiced and the other is voiceless?? your tongue and your mouth is doing the exact same thing for both of them!!!" why are all linguists like this 😆
to be fair to phil, i took one linguistics class just as an elective fun course during my undergrad degree and it was one of my favourite classes. nothing to do with palaeontology (my actual degree) but fascinating.
idk how I've been following phil since the beginning and never knew he has a whole degree in linguistics wtf i'm a classically trained singer and phonetics is my j a m

beep boop!
Beep to the boop
Play Super Bunny Man ❤️
phil played a linguistic game its only right that dan plays a law game
I've been playing Empires & Puzzles for like 4 years now but watching Dan and Phil try to sell it to me weirds me out lol. I feel seen and I don't like it XD
why is nobody talking about how impressive it is that phil was able to teach a rat human speech. truly groundbreaking stuff.
LMAO
nah, it's just the Clever Hans Effect
rattatouille who-uille
so glad we’re finally addressing dan’s lack of speaking over the last 10 years
yeah he was always so quiet
@@moonchild3370 hi we have the same pfp
Was the hyena laugh just a figment of our imaginations?
@@moonchild3370bro used to interrupt dan SO much 😭
@@chiary.is.not.amazing5760 memento mori
Dan making fun of Phil for having a linguistic degree as if he didn't try and study law will never not be funny😂
"try and study" is so fucking funny 😭
like the dropout cant be talking here
But Dan was smart enough to quickly realize that path was wrong. Phil went all on about it and even went for masters
he's not tho 😭 he's making fun of him for having a degree and still speaking Like That
I feel like at least half their friendship is founded on constantly smashing the others glass house to the ground xD
I need to know more about this alternate universe where Dan is a lawyer and Phil is a forensic phonetician!!
I can just feel the fanfics writing themself
I'm picturing a Law & Order style television show. Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about the legal system in the UK. I will not be writing this fanfic
Where are the fanfiction writers when you need them the most???
This game gives me skeeves, but thinking that they maybe would have become best friends as a lawyer and forensic phonetician makes me very very happy. My 2014 Tumblr self wants a wholesome fanfic so bad.
As a long-time Dan and Phil fan who was around when Dan was still in College and remembers those old UA-cam videos. In that universe, Dan would be a miserable sack of potatoes struggling through life... more so than usual :D
phil showing off his degree is kind of iconic
I love how WASD will always be Phil's worst enemy
I feel like if he just put some bumpy stickers on the WASD keys, like the type they use for braille, he’d fix this easily
I would watch a whole hour long video on phil explaining the different things he learned for his degree
Please? New phil vid? Pls??
Fun Fact: The labiodental fricative is the sound represented by the letter f. It would be pronounced 4 times in the last sentence when spoken aloud.
@glumboritango7182 I only counted 3? And that's borderline?
infodump the video
no but honestly
if phil wanted to make a miniseries just doing Crash Course style linguistics lessons, i’d watch the whole thing
Can they remake crash course linguistics and have phil host it i’d watch
Tom scott has language files! It is the same info as tom scott did the same program as phil and just graduated york uni a year earlier
@@kf10147 ive never made that connection before :o i knew tom did linguistics but didnt think they were so close in age
Yeah I actually would watch this. I don't typically watch his content alone. Or Dan's really although I did like his web series. But hearing Phil talk about something that he's excited about that's knowledge-based would be super cool
Our semiannual reminder of Phil’s degree 😂
bold of you to assume i ever forgot about it ☝️
more like weekly reminder lmao
"Sorry but you're now alive" is what I tell myself every morning
I'm so proud of Dan for finally learning how to talk after 32 years ❤
Phil putting his forensic phonetics interest to work every day by nitpicking Dan’s pronunciation 😂

dapg keeps becoming unironically educational due to phil pulling out random facts out of nowhere

Congratulations!! You must have worked so hard - a Master's degree is no easy thing to achieve!
That is amazing!! Congrats on learning another language and your education ❤
Wow that’s incredible! congratulations 🎓
Philology? The study of Phil? 😅
same here.
I'm a college student studying speech-language pathology so "labio-dental fricative" sent me astral-projecting back to my phonology class
pathology in linguistics? that's so interesting!

Phil teaching Dan linguistics has been the highlight of my day
So nice of Phil to give birth to Dan and teach his baby how to talk
LMAO ☠️☠️😭
HELLO?????
HELP 😭😭😭😭😭
WHAT!?!?!
😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
Phil rlly went off with his linguistics knowledge and I’m SO HERE FOR IT
it’s really cool to see phil so genuinely passionate about linguistics.
Phil’s degree is finally useful 15 years later
Phil with his linguistics major 🤝 me being deaf and going through years of speech therapy, both randomly starting conversations by talking about where words are formed in your mouth ✨️
The first thing the robot says to you when you initially wake up being "sorry you are now alive" is honestly such a mood
It’s really cool to see Phil explaining his linguistics knowledge! I didn’t know forensic phonetics was a thing!
Really thought this would be giving Dan a northern accent💀
phil's explanation are better than the entirety of my phonetics class lmao
watching dan discover “crisp” is the highlight of gamingmas thus far
The way I clicked IMMEDIATELY
Honestly listening to Phil talk about everything he learned for his degree was pretty cool! I love hearing both of them talk about things that interest them, even if they aren't "on theme"
In an alternate universe Phil is a forensic linguist and Dan is a persecutor and they’re still a dynamic duo somehow.
the phanfic we all need
dan being mindblown over phil's linguistic facts at the beginning is so funny
it’s the season of escaping holiday family gatherings to go watch dan and phil games in my room
Right! I feel 13 again
dude i think i commented this exact thing years ago when the channel was alive before 2023 lmfaoo
phil could talk about linguistics all day and i would listen to every word
the way this video inevitably got thousands of us to try humming with our noses plugged
Karen witnessed a robot with an eye popping out and oil? leaking and still wants to date him….. is she ok
honestly I get her
the bar is in hell
I’m a voice teacher with a degree in vocal pedagogy and this feels like you made this video to cater specifically to me so thanks for that
would love to see phil talk about linguistics more!!!!!!
as a linguistics major i need more linguistics talk from phil it is always so entertaining
I’m always like “I’ll save the video for work tomorrow so I can have something nice to watch while I work” and then I drop everything every single time they upload to watch it. I have no self control.
Same with me and studying 😂
i graduated with a degree in linguistics earlier this year and cannot express how embarrassingly excited i was when phil started the video talking about labio-dental fricatives
You're telling me ive been a fan since 2013 and accidentally got the same degree as Phil all these years later?
gamingmas is the only thing keeping me together anymore i think
As a linguistics student I cannot get enough of Phil talking about it
this was scarier than anything during spooky week
I could listen to Phil nerd out about his degree all day, brings me back to my linguistics class in college too 😂

Dan at 14:20 going from 😛 to 😐
Hearing Phil talk about linguistics and vocal production and vocal anatomy is legitimately so interestingggggg
phil talking and giving linguistic fun facts was much more interesting than the game itself
im gonna be so honest as someone who did not learn english as a first language and hated growing up feeling like i didnt fully ever grasp it like i should have i would LOVE just a video of phil talking about what he finds most interesting abt linguistics ngl
If Phil explaining his linguistics stuff has taught me anything, it’s that learning would be so much easier if Phil just explained everything to me
Ill living for all the Dan and Phil games content recently
Phil is so smart. We don’t acknowledge it enough
liked the linguistics lesson with Mr Lester at the start actually learnt something for once lmao

Dan being absolutely _SHOOK_ by Phil's phonetic facts at the beginning is incredible
This is has been the only constant in my life this month lol

love sharing a degree in linguistics with this legend
i fucking love phonetics
Phil got all of us sitting in our rooms saying "ccrrriiisssppp" very slowly and clearly out loud
Forensic phonetician sounds like such a cool job tho!!! Maybe Phil can study it as a hobby or something

I loved Phil getting to talk about his linguistics degree! It was really interesting and I definitely learned a few things. 😮
My degree was adjacent to Ling and I did a lot of ling classes - it really is a topic you can continue to nerd out about a decade later. MORE LING!

I literally have a linguistics exam on Monday, thanks for the revision, Phil hahaha
Yess, I love seeing Phil talk about his linguistics degree!
I would 100% watch him do a lecture
How can Phil teach Dan how to speak when Phil finds it hard to speak?
