“Because It’s Christmas” by Barry Manilow. 2018 Orchestration. HD 1080.

My 2018 multimedia project of Barry Manilow’s, “Because It’s Christmas.” Made on my home DAW desktop and in multiple hotel rooms across the U.S. this year on my laptop.
The lead vocalist was recorded back in 1993 for a basic, experimental recording of this song when I was beginning to pursue audio production. This ’93 vocal track was transferred from the tape reel, remastered and used in this arrangement, which was written to work musically with it.
The rest of the singers and alto saxophone player were recorded from their home “studios” in Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Sweden and Los Angeles, CA. Mastering took place in Venezuela by a Berklee graduate in his recording studio.
Although heard in the audio, the steel-string guitar, glockenspiel, orchestral bells and auxiliary percussion staves have been omitted from the chart in order to avoid a congested visual hindering readable lines.
In a “Berklee world”…
-all parts on the main score are written in concert pitch. Any necessary instrument transposition would be notated on the player’s individual part. (Alto saxophone’s part up a major 6th.)
-sections consisting of chord symbols and slashes call for improvising, allowing creative liberties with some noted guidance.
-omitted whole rests make the chart easier to read.
-accidentals are written above the notes, regardless of stem direction.
-“less is more”. This is why I utilized slashes for those who improvise and prefer an opportunity to contribute their own musical ideas and abilities to serve the song, and written notes for those more comfortable reading notation, and for when something musically specific is called for.
