My mission statement in the garden is to also think about my neighbors. "Share my garden's abundance" This is why I bought more seeds than I should, and thinking of the kind of veggies they will also like and appreciate. I'm also expanding the garden because it's not only for my husband and me but also others. I have a neighbor who is in her 90's, and living alone. I saw how much she appreciated the freshly picked veggies. It made me happy to see her so happy, so I intended to supply her all her veggie needs. I work in a hospital and my co-workers get some share of my veggies as well. I just love sharing the blessings from my garden. Especially now that the price of food is rocketing.

My mission statement is to be as self sustainable as possible with the space I have. I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and dangerously high cholesterol and have to change my diet, or my 2 young children may have to live without their father. That is an absolutely unacceptable outcome. The cost of healthy eating has gone through the roof. So, instead of letting inflation get in the way, I'm gonna do something about it now. I have always loved gardening, but now it is going to help save my life, and hopefully teach my children that not only is eating healthy important, but so is self sustainability. I plan to be there to help them learn that!
On a side note, I love the videos you create. You are an inspiration and your time and efforts are appreciated more than you know, Huw 🙂

My Misson statement for this year is to have on thing on the table from the garden every single day of the year. Be it fresh, pickled, frozen or dried.
I'm a veteran gardener but starting a brand new garden this year after having moved houses. Instead of a 200m2 allotment, I now have 15000m2 of my own land, and I'm so excited for the new season with veg, fruit, chickens, ducks and sheep!
PS. New book is preordered and I can barely wait for it ❤️

I have the same goal (eating one thing each day coming from the garden, fresh or preserved) except I let myself 3 years to manage that considering I'm a beginner and I only have a quite small garden (430m2 including the house). I put in place my beds and fruit bushes last september and I'm yet pretty happy with the first results since this winter I already had around 1/4 of the days with something to eat from the garden (mostly mache, salads and spinach but also radishes in october/november and some swiss chard, 3 leeks, and cherries in syrup from my big tree). Learning with Huw's videos and others, but I have a tendancy to do what he says at the end, learning too much theory at a time, so I have to wait and rewatch and put them in practice at the right time ! Today I started sowing peppers and eggplants indoor, i'm keeping my fingers crossed... Greetings from France !

In July of 2021, I moved from the NJ East Coast in the US to the Arkansas Ozarks in South Central US. My mission statement this year is to establish a strong foundation, or infrastructure of gardens that I can build upon for the future. It’s February 2022, but I’ve already got 3 metal raised gardens filled with rotting logs and branches at the bottom and composted soil. I have a compost pile with sawdust, chicken manure, leaves, shredded cardboard and paper, food scraps, coffee grounds, etc. I have 10 acres of woods with 2 acres in front that have been thinned out. It’s such a pleasure to have this huge space to work with. Thank you, Huw, for your many videos filled with valuable gardening information. I also have your excellent book "Grow Food For Free".

No matter where I've lived, I always make absolute maximum use of the garden. I particularly like those neglected corners, the one behind the shed, stacked up with roof tiles or bricks. I clear them out, clean down the ground and place a raised bed in there. Make sure full light can get in and start planting.

My mission statement this year was to start. I was overwhelmed with compost/gardening prices and time. After watching the best explanation of composting on this channel, I jump into action because price wasn’t an issue anymore! I’m one week into creating my own composting setups. One hot compost that I have turned twice. I was shocked at how quickly the smell and look of the pile changed!!!! I have a second compost started where I want my garden beds, and I started laying out newspaper and cardboard in between my beds to create my lazy compost sections. Even if I don’t get anything in the ground this year, I’ll be set up for a great garden next year! Very thankful for your videos 🙏🏾❤️

My mission statement is to grow my first cutting garden. Gradually I will add vegetables. I have lettuce seedlings in the ground along with bachelor buttons, both seeded directly in 8b Central Texas. I am in the process of germinating scabiosa, snapdragons, and a few others. My husband wants garlic, but I have to plant that in fall. I am growing a special rosemary for him now.
Unfortunately I cannot turn compost because I'm 74 and have a back problem, but I have a good source locally.

I would say my mission statement has shifted from being the avid gardener (always running about weeding and cleaning) to being someone that has their garden more for healing now. "To be present in the garden, with all my senses." Every year I try something new, be it a variety of plant/seed and even something I want to experiment with, butt always comes back to enjoying my time in the garden itself. Watching what creatures come to visit. Noticing the subtle shifts in a plants growth and the shifts in the ecosystem of the garden too. First the soil gets warm and spiders wake up, then aphids are about with ladybird larvae not to far behind. There is so much one can miss if they only go out to clean up and plant. Planting some extra flowers everywhere doesn't hurt either. ;)

Go vertical as much as you can. You can tie (loosely) vining things to trellis and make it go up 6 feet rather than sprawl out 6 feet.
I started watching Jessica Sowers on UA-cam (Roots and Refuge Farms)
She is not only a lovely person, but she cares about us learning as well. So she tells us things most videos won’t...about the failures and how to avoid them! Haha..Good luck! You can do it. There will be failures.,,but that’s okay! Failures are lessons! Knowing what doesn’t work is just as Important as knowing what does. Remember, plants want to grow!
      DO NOT OVER WATER! HAHA
Buy a water measurement device for your soil (10$ or less) from your local farm supply store.
      Happy Gardening!

My mission statement this year is to "Do what brings joy without regret." It means I don't give up, and I also don't bite off more than I can chew. Gardening brings me joy, but also I don't want to burn out and lose steam. This feels really important to start good habits in my new house.

My Garden Statement is to "grow new, eat clean, and live well. I have been watching this show for many years and found many tips that have enriched my garden even though I have gardened for more than 50 years. Huw should be commended on his growth as a blogger, his research and application of principles for good health.

My mission this year is to enjoy gardening while my father-in-law can't take care of it: I really like to experiment, try new kind of crops meanwhile he prefers focusing almost exclusively on what he knows is going to bene productive. This year I really feel like the garden is just for me!

Due to a sudden and utterly unexpected need to replace raised bed frames, etc, this year - my goal is to experiment more with square-foot and container gardening, and to grow as much of our produce at home, as possible. I'm trying to stay positive and think of this as a challenge and a learning opportunity, to see how much of our food I can reasonably grow at home!
We aren't going for a true food forest like James P, but the long-term goal is to be self-sufficient...at least when it comes to produce! 😁
Niall is lovely, thank you for featuring him! All the best to you both!

My mission statement (i have a huge garden) “ let my daily practice be ‘a stitch in time…’ with my ever present touch in the garden”
I love your work and advise everyone to subscribe. I also love your confidence in sharing other channels. It shows great passion to spread your message. 💛
💡 An idea - a diary that incorporates ‘season’ segments rather than ‘month’ segments. Eg January is ‘late winter’ for you but is ‘late Summer for me in Australia.
Early spring for me is September but its early autumn for you.
Mid winter for me is July, but mid summer for you.
So a seasonal diary would be great for people almost the world over. I have an awesome Charles Dowding perpetual garden diary… love it but i have to constantly flip seasons and months when using it. Id love one i could use that is season based. 🌻🌻🌻

Thanks for the great tips! It's amazing that you're offering a free course. My mission is to start my little Garden of Eden. I bought a house that only had lawn and some small rhododendrons. I started by covering the front lawn with wood chips. I plan to create no dig beds in the backyard in the next couple weeks with compost. I'm focusing on the most nutritious foods and high value crops (expensive at the store): berries, cruciferous vegetables, other greens and fruits, beans/peas, herbs, alliums; heirloom varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, potatoes. But also lots of flowers for beauty and wildlife. I've grown food before, but this will be my most ambitious project yet.

This year, we have two mission statements. The homestead one is "Be realistic" due to our propensity to dream big but not always know and admit our limits. The garden one is "Fresh first, then preserve" because for the last few years, I've been of the mindset that I have to preserve absolutely everything I get out of the garden, which often means we don't eat enough fresh veggies in season because I'm worried I won't have enough to can up a batch or whatever.

I have a tiny city garden...but I started to improve soil-dig a hole on the side of my garden and use it for compost, mix it with soil..when It is full, make a new hole next to the first one...finely cover compost with soil and use it for pumpkins,tomato...I have also a wooden box full of compost and soil...potatoes grow every year by itself in this box..I don't plant them, they grow from potatoes cuttings (fresh from kitchen)I put into this box as a part of compost. So at least-pumpkins and potatoes, also salads...very easy to grow😄

My mission statement is to grow what's going to feed my family in a space that brings me joy. I tend to like to try new things every year. Allowing a small space for each crop Wich allows a lot of variety but doesn't always fill the pantry. Now that I have more experience in what grows well and is easy to cook with, I want to really use the space to it's fullest potential this year and really fill up the freezer and pantry.

My mission statement is to stay on top of timing. Last year was my first year as a vegetable gardener and I noticed fairly often that I was just too late with things. I will try this year to be ahead of everything, in terms of sowing, transplanting, watering, plant support, and taking care of the soil. I am confident that staying on top of things a bit more will impact the wealth of my raised bed on our balcony. I’ve sown the first seeds already (some plants said hello in the mean time), soil seems to be in good shape, made week-by-week year plan for the bed, and all seeds are in for this year. 😀

Having enjoyed your video last year about setting goals, I made new goals at the beginning of this year - sort of new year resolutions. I started my garden last year with 9 different vegetables. These all grew well so this year I am going to try at least 5 new vegetables or herbs. Am also very excited about saving space and so am going to start a vertical garden using pots which can be built one on top of the other. Am very curious how this will all work out. Thank you for all the information you give us - it's much appreciated
