My biggest complaint was that it was a "faithful """REMAKE"""". Let's be honest, it's a clone. It's a graphically upgraded clone. There is "nostalgia", and then there is playing the same game again. I played until after the league and then quit with a bad feeling. When BDSM came out, there were already almost 1000 Pokemon... yet we still fought the same 10 Pokemon over and over again against every trainer.
And now they wanna remake Unova. Which is honestly my favorite in terms of graphics. Custom battle movements for pokemon, the musical bit in Nimbasa City, obvious Driftviel's theme (but all of the music in B/W/B2/W2 rocked), are all amazing! So hearing it might be remade too makes me... well... nervous.
The scene from 16:40 - 16:50 really cracks me up not only because Stel reacts like that but also because of coupling it with calm music from Eterna City and then a scream/groan reminds me of one of those horror films you would play to scare your kids. 😂😂

I love Gen 4 and Sinnoh I grew up with it and I recently played Platinum for the first time and even though I find Platinum and most 3rd versions to be overrated (or down right bad in the case of the ultra games) I had practically the same experience as Pearl, however I did see how it improved over the originals. So to see that BDSP didn't include anything from Platinum unlike other remakes did with there 3rd versions is disappointing to say the least. That's ultimately how I feel about Shining Pearl it's a big disappointment. Imo it's worse than the original DP in most regards.

I'd like to say knowing what is a 'viable Pokemon', for beating mainline Pokemon game story, isn't as important. It's not competitive battles, you can beat the game fine with almost every Pokemon, and it's honestly lot more fun in-terms of coming up with a strategy with more 'uncommon' Pokemon that people use. Or using moves that aren't STAB, if for the Physical/Special split doesn't favor it's typing and it's stats. This applies to even Generation 1, all the way to current generations. Like I remember playing through Pokemon Diamond myself in it's cart recently, I beat Cynthia's Garchomp with my Lopunny. Though as I've noticed Gen 4 does have a problem of lacking in Fire-types, which is true. And I think it sucks that BDSP got subpar remakes. If they go back to Johto, be it Let's Go or others, I wish they would actually expand more than what Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I like Gen 2, but there's noticably lack of.. 'Flair'? Or perhaps further polish of Johto as a whole, even if there's alot of overall features that add more replayability.

I hate DP so I hoped when remakes were announced they would take all the good stuff and make it better. Tho I gave up on it after SwSh came out so I never had any hopes for the remakes. The only reason I am forced to play them is to get certain items because I can't bare erasing my Platinum File and HGSS I still have some good items to trade over. The only way I can get some kind of fun is either I trade over useful Pokemon that aren't in Sinnoh like a Fire Punch Hitmonchan OR I use glitches like in RBY and get Pokemon that I aren't suppose to obtain. Like Darkrai, Shaymin, early Cresselia or Arceus. Even then its minimal. I don't know how many trainers have half a team full of just 1 Pokemon. 3 Roselia, 3 Geodude, 3 Goldeen, 6 Magikarp, 3 Bidoof, 3... 3... 3... Bronzel... they are awful and slow. btw, jokes on you. Gamefreak even see Legends Arceus as a throwaway title as they announced a new generation just 1 month after Legends Arceus got released. It kinda annoys me because I was already in defense they were rushing that game and know I know why. We are getting 3 Major released in 1 year, and yes these new gen games are coming out this year.
I still cant get over the fact that ORAS didnt include the Battle Frontier, seriously, the only reason why ORAS isnt a 10/10 remake is because of that, its a 9.5/10 :(

Other than the Grand Underground, it didn't innovate on the originals. That's why, to me, the games are DECENT, but not GREAT. And when you said that this was their only shot, it hit me. Gen 4 is still my absolute favorite. I think it really deserved to be great.

I think this games remade soundtrack is fire except for the team galactic themes and the snow route 216 The galactic themes are lit, but its missing that extra oomph that was in OR/AS u know? Honestly my main issue with these remakes is that they didn't want to pick a lane when it came to how faithful to the originals they should be because even if the end product still was mediocre at least it would be consistent.
The remake of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum was really good, I just don't know why they decided to call it "World of Final Fantasy Maxima" instead. Edit: Also, from everything that ILCA worked on both before and after BDSP, I'm fairly confident that GameFreak was behind most, if not all, of the terrible decisions that kneecapped the official remakes.
The thing with Metroid Prime is, Nintendo wanted the series one and for all dead. And Prime should be an excuse for it why we don't get no new games after this this "failure", problem it was a huge success. One ex retro studio guy said, Nintendo don't cared about the Metroid Prime project. And the whole Situation was super weird, because they had little no commication with Nintendo.
But if you remade it as Pokemon Resplendent Platinum, you'd sell half as many copies as if you had both Brilliant Diamond _and_ Shining Pearl! After all, most of the really dedicated players are going to buy both (or all three, or all four) main line games in every generation at full price and all of its DLC regardless of quality. Me, the only Pokemon games I've ever had are Blue, Yellow, and X and it's probably going to stay that way.
Funny thing for me is that I played a rom hack of platinum(Renegade Platinum) that basically did so many quality of life changes that I was hoping that bdsp did. But nope they really saw Diamond and Pearl and copy and pasted it lol

Gen 4 was so FORGETABLE. by the time I got the remakes. I pretty much went in 100% BLIND as I couldn't remember a single thing about it. I forgot chimchar even existed or that he was a starter. I didn't even finish the game. I completed the pokedex. got the national dex before I even attempted to do the league.
Still to this day cant believe how low effort and awful this 'remake' is. The amount of actual handholding in this one is probably the worst part the game treats you like a complete idiot.
I think the games are perfectly fine, there are some REALLY bad flaws, but over all it's nothing terrible, just boring, forgettable. There's nothing that makes it stand out compared to the other remakes. It's fun, fine, but just as mundane as it can be. The soundtrack is good and fine, but some songs are a bit worse. Sunnyshore City I found had less of that "This is it! Let's go!" feeling. You know, it's the final town, the final gym leader and only a few obstacles remain in your path to the champion, you just feel amazing and ready for anything. The city theme opens with what I can only describe as a synth organ, and it just feels off and sounds off as well.... until near the end with the saxophones. When the two saxophones start playing together, the song becomes AMAZING, but the lead up there just sounded eh. The movement is glitchy. Nothing else to say. The grand underground was interesting, but the removal of secret bases was somewhat disappointing. I have fond memories of playing with my friend in the underground, trapping him and stealing his flag. It's always been fun. Ramnas Park was an interesting conclusion, not a bad one though. Not much I can say about that, it's just... there. I liked the game, but I can say that it's pretty mediocre for Pokémon. ILCA wanted to make the most faithful Pokémon remake. Unfortunately, they succeeded. If it was Black and White that was more faithful, then sure, it might have gone better. However we have Platinum that would have made a better faithful remake. Platinum fixed so much of what made diamond odd. From bizarre gym order and nonsensical progression, to the terrible movement speed, and the horrible pokedex, Diamond and Pearl are some of the least polished and among the worst original games in the franchise, so choosing them to be faithful with is... odd, to say the least. The remakes are fine, just... disappointing in some regards, and over all I have fun with them, but they truly are just meh.

I actually like gen 2 and 4 the most. I appreciate 5's story but though the starters sucked ass and that there were a lot of hideously bad Pokemon designs mixed in with some really good ones, but the good ones were often late or post game.. Not to mention, why the fuck does everything have to evolve at level 50+ in those games? That was a so god damn aggravating for me. Ahem, I'm rambling now.

The remake of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum was really good, I just don't know why they decided to call it "World of Final Fantasy Maxima" instead.
Edit: Also, from everything that ILCA worked on both before and after BDSP, I'm fairly confident that GameFreak was behind most, if not all, of the terrible decisions that kneecapped the official remakes.
The thing with Metroid Prime is, Nintendo wanted the series one and for all dead.
And Prime should be an excuse for it why we don't get no new games after this this "failure", problem it was a huge success.
One ex retro studio guy said, Nintendo don't cared about the Metroid Prime project. And the whole Situation was super weird, because they had little no commication with Nintendo.

But if you remade it as Pokemon Resplendent Platinum, you'd sell half as many copies as if you had both Brilliant Diamond _and_ Shining Pearl! After all, most of the really dedicated players are going to buy both (or all three, or all four) main line games in every generation at full price and all of its DLC regardless of quality.
Me, the only Pokemon games I've ever had are Blue, Yellow, and X and it's probably going to stay that way.
Funny thing for me is that I played a rom hack of platinum(Renegade Platinum) that basically did so many quality of life changes that I was hoping that bdsp did. But nope they really saw Diamond and Pearl and copy and pasted it lol

Gen 4 was so FORGETABLE. by the time I got the remakes. I pretty much went in 100% BLIND as I couldn't remember a single thing about it. I forgot chimchar even existed or that he was a starter. I didn't even finish the game. I completed the pokedex. got the national dex before I even attempted to do the league.

I think the games are perfectly fine, there are some REALLY bad flaws, but over all it's nothing terrible, just boring, forgettable. There's nothing that makes it stand out compared to the other remakes. It's fun, fine, but just as mundane as it can be.
The soundtrack is good and fine, but some songs are a bit worse. Sunnyshore City I found had less of that "This is it! Let's go!" feeling. You know, it's the final town, the final gym leader and only a few obstacles remain in your path to the champion, you just feel amazing and ready for anything. The city theme opens with what I can only describe as a synth organ, and it just feels off and sounds off as well.... until near the end with the saxophones. When the two saxophones start playing together, the song becomes AMAZING, but the lead up there just sounded eh.
The movement is glitchy. Nothing else to say.
The grand underground was interesting, but the removal of secret bases was somewhat disappointing. I have fond memories of playing with my friend in the underground, trapping him and stealing his flag. It's always been fun.
Ramnas Park was an interesting conclusion, not a bad one though. Not much I can say about that, it's just... there.
I liked the game, but I can say that it's pretty mediocre for Pokémon. ILCA wanted to make the most faithful Pokémon remake. Unfortunately, they succeeded. If it was Black and White that was more faithful, then sure, it might have gone better. However we have Platinum that would have made a better faithful remake. Platinum fixed so much of what made diamond odd. From bizarre gym order and nonsensical progression, to the terrible movement speed, and the horrible pokedex, Diamond and Pearl are some of the least polished and among the worst original games in the franchise, so choosing them to be faithful with is... odd, to say the least. The remakes are fine, just... disappointing in some regards, and over all I have fun with them, but they truly are just meh.

Ik these aren't perfect games and HGSS are still my personal favorite Pokemon games but at least its not as bad as Scarlet and Violet XD

What's the point of a Remake, if it isn't better than original game. With history of games like HGSS, ORAS or even LGPE - this is a joke. Especially when Gen 4 would be perfect to finish doing remakes, cause it will be crap to Remake BW without BW2. Like it was garbage of them to remake DP without actually including Platinum into it.
ORAS was the route they should have taken (aside Battle Frontier - cause Masuda can go feck himself, especially with his dirty mouth lying once again about "faithful" remakes).
My only gripe with this game is that this game is SOOOOOO SLOWWW. It takes forever to get from place to place.
I played gen 1 as a 5 year old so I may or may not be a bit older of a Pokefan... but I do love gen 4's music and Pokemon a helluva lot. I'm actually not very nostalgic for my starting gen. I actually like gen 2 and 4 the most. I appreciate 5's story but though the starters sucked ass and that there were a lot of hideously bad Pokemon designs mixed in with some really good ones, but the good ones were often late or post game..
Not to mention, why the fuck does everything have to evolve at level 50+ in those games? That was a so god damn aggravating for me. Ahem, I'm rambling now.
