Honeymoon Suite was one of my favorite 80s bands. I remember you guys playing with Heart in Pittsburgh, PA. Most people were sitting down... Then, you played New Girl Now. Everyone got up on their feet. Great memories, Derry!
I am SO GLAD that I stumbled across this channel!! I have always loved Honeymoon Suite and Derry Grehan! Your licks are so tasteful and they're just Rock'n'Roll, no other way to put it. No better way to learn HS tunes than from THE MAN himself! Thanks, Derry.
Thank you so much Derry I've waited an eternity for someone to teach me how to play this song and to learn from the master himself it could not get any better.
I have New Girl Now in my video rotation, I randomly do a "then and now" on members, as drummer, I can appreciate all aspects of the band. I'm an 80's kid so this song was huge (for me) back then and when watching the music video today...between the hair/bandana and play style of when you are doing the solo....not only is this vid a cool insight to the song and rift, the original music video showed how much "fun" it was to actually play it and the talent to achieve that solo. It's to bad music of this caliber isn't more prevalent, most of the music today is just plain disposable. It's 2022 and still I'm still listening repeatedly a great track from 1984. Thanks for the video, really cool to see you showing off how the cake was baked. Chris.
Awesome tune next up to learn! Thanks for posting! We were at the Honeymoon Suite concert at Grey Eagle Resort in Calgary Dec 30 2022 you guys are great! 👍
Very few artists take the time to share something like this. Thank you. The song is a little out of my league so normally I’d bail out as trying to learn it by piecing together 10 semi accurate versions on the internet would not inspire me to invest the time. But here the man himself is the teacher so there are no excuses for not stepping up to try.
Always great to hear it from the original artist! Thank you Derry for the instructional video - we're adding this song to our setlist! Such a great hook 👍
Wow! You have an amazing talent and so skilled at this. "We're not worthy! We're not worthy" as we fans bow to your greatness! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and giving of your time to teach those of us striving to play. Great songs that have lasted several decades (yes!!). Keep on rocking!!
Super i love that song I remember riding around in my trans am cranking this tune Derry this so good of you to show us how you play it i will jam this song tonight on my guitar thanks Derry
Hey Derry thank you so much for this tutorial ,I’ve been huge fan of Honeymoon Suite ( your playing ) since day 1! I’d love to see a tutorial on “Bad Attitude” sometime .Looking forward to your new stuff .Thanks again
So heartwarming to see you here brother. Same guy I've seen on stage over the decades. Timing changes are what makes this tune yours man. Keep rocking!
Awesome I just heard this song on q107. I googled how to play it 52 years old I picked Up the guitar 🎸 at the start of the pandemic. Honey moon suite was my first concert back in the 80s.😅😅😅
Awesome- in my 50's and been playing guitar for 20 years or so. So cool to go back and find and learn these grooving songs like this. Also, listening to the song, I always thought you guys were British! 😁 It's especially cool to see a pro say things like. "I don't know what you call it." "it's real simple." or "I stole this from Steppenwolf (ha!). Can't wait to jam along to this. For some reason it kind of reminds me of Squiers "The Stroke" which is also a blast to play, where it's all about the little things with easy chords.
Love this tune for sure but it's just one of so many amazing songs Honeymoon Suite put out. Going back and listening to their albums just brings so much joy!
Derry, enjoyed meeting you at the Copenhagen Airport this past weekend...I had never heard of Honeymoon Suite.....I looked up the band on UA-cam, you guys ROCK. I see you are playing the Les Paul you told me about! Beautiful guitar.... Anyway, hope you got home safely, if you or your band ever comes to Memphis I'll be in the audience! Take care, Dave Thompson
This is great. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this great tune. I just bought the Honeymoon Suite Greatest Hits cd. I will try and play some of your cool chords and riffs. And that riff before the solo is my favorite part with the drum shots.
Simple! :P Love it. Thanks for all the amazing music. "Words in the Wind" has my favourite guitar solo of all time. Awesome to see you guys still bringin' it!
Thanks Derry! I’m almost brand new, but we’ll get at least some of these cords down. One of my faves since 1984. 💪 I’ve got a new girl now about 15 times over lol
Thanks, heard the song on a Vancouver radio station today and decided I wanted to play it. May as well learn from the dude that put the riffs together.
DG - I always wondered why my E didn't sound like yours.... Now I know... ;) you had my second fav guitar tone on that album (after EVH)... sounded very similar....
Very cool tutorial. Certainly helped me alot. I've always been a huge Honeymoon Suite fan, and you are an outstanding guitar player. You should be much more credited and highly rated for your talents in my opinion. Very well done!
wow guy ,its about time.thnx for the tutorial .great playing,i have no problem learning tunes but when it comes to the solos without the music or tabs a lot of the stuff is just to damn fast, to figure out and i dont like to just wank a solo. i play with a guy you might know once in a while ROBERT LAIDLAW .and of course .he loves to play all the canadian bands stuff as hes been in most of those bands ,at one time or another, anyway derry thnx so much your melodic flavouring is amazeing , SAM CARROLL
I'm amused when you say "that's a D with an open E in it, I don't know, I think that's called a sus." I play guitar as well (not near in your league) and find myself playing things with no idea of what they're called. Just make it sound good, let the scholars figure out the rest. Loved the tutorial!
Sorry I have to admit... I came across the tutorial, didn't recognize you were the actual guitarist and questioned what you were playing "not sure thats right" lol. Anyways, I know now. Thanks for the tutorial.. I feel pretty dumb :)
One of the most underrated and underappreciated guitar players. Amazing composition and technique. Thanks so much for your videos.
Honeymoon Suite was one of my favorite 80s bands.

I don't know if I can express how much HS means and meant to me growing up in the 80s! \m/
Thanks SO MUCH, for all the awesome tunes!
so great of you to share this.; You guys were a killer band and the music still holds up today. Thank you!
They still ARE a killer band!! :) Their new songs are just as awesome as their older songs!
Quintessential Canadian Rock Icons. Still makes me crank up the volume, everytime.
Great Canadian guitarist and songwriter, still going strong! Inspired, everytime. Thanks for the music and lesson Derry.
Very under rated guitarists in my top 5
Love your play.
So cool he comes on here and breaks it down. One of my favorite songs of the 80's, played it wrong in every band I've been in....
Finally! The definitive lesson.
-a masterpiece song.
Thank you so much Derry I've waited an eternity for someone to teach me how to play this song and to learn from the master himself it could not get any better.

A classic song . I'm an 80's girl . I have this on my Playlist on my phone. Wow have times changed from a Walkman and records. Lol 🤩
Really cool to have the guy who wrote the parts show you how it's done.
