Great review again 👍 The car looks and sounds great. It's funny that manufacturers try to entice younger folks with the new tech bling but it's only the older folks with enough crazy cash to buy it and retired to have the time to enjoy it.
I've had a soft spot for the SL ever since my uncle took me for a ride in his R129 back in the day. It was a great car for just cruising around in, a bit like a German version of a 1960's American land yacht. While I'm sure the 4 cylinder version would have adequate power, I feel like it clashes with the whole idea of this car.
Man, those enormous sensor screens in modern cars I just dont love it, analog & physical switches are so much better for real, I wish Mercedes would do some cars with screens & some cars with normal physical analog-like switches
I am 5 ft. 11 inches. I had the seat all the way back. There was not enough room for my legs. They should have the back seats fold up when not in use and then make the front seat to be able to move back more. This was yesterday. So disappointing!
Great review! Top down ALWAYS!!! I liked the look of the R230 but otherwise this series has not been right since the 1970s... until now. I love this new one.
It's kitsch.... all screens, glossy plastics, baroque lights... goes well with your DD boob job, lip filler, BBL girlfriend who can't quite carry a conversation... I'd buy a Morgan PlusSix over this in a heartbeat...
To compare this to an Aston, or BMW M8 or a Porsche - come one... any of those over this - this car yes may be fast, but it's soft rounded look ... no visual aggression - looks like a girls car, and something a hairdresser should drive.
Hint: Press the Roof-Button on the Button-Bar below the screen once. Then press and hold the Roof-Button below the screen the second time. Now, wait for the magic to happen. The roof will open or close. That depends on which state the Roof is at. That is way more easy than sliding and holding the bar on the screen to the left or right.
Thanks Marek, great review I found it very informative and amusing, I like the car. Priced one yesterday with the options I chose its $432k AUD, which a large percentage of that is State & Federal Taxing, oh and then we have Luxury Car Tax. Australian Government like to sting you when they can.......
OMG your influencer flexing was hilarious!! And that's what this car is. For people with mountains of money flexing on everybody. Personally I'd buy a Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 convertible or an Audi TT convertible and save a boatload for other things I could throw money at but I guess I'm not the type that flexes.
That's how I roll :) This is for flexing, Cayman is for driving. TT... I don't know what it's for. I wasn't impressed, but I understand the AWD appeal in Canada.
@@MarekDrivesENG I've never driven a TT but it looks nice. LOL. I thought for sure you were going to roll off the side of the car! 🤣 now I have to show my 14 yr old this video. She's always complaining about all of these kids at school showing her influencer stuff flexing.
I have a whole clip (which I should edit into a vertical Shorts video), where I do stupid faces to get a thumbnail screenshot for YT. Tell her if she doesn't study, she's going to become an online influencer :)
The vehicle is overpriced. It has an interior that you can get in a new C-class and engine you can get in any AMG GT for less money. And it doesn't outperform the cheaper 911 GTS Cabriolet which is the class benchmark. Unless they drop the price, this car is going to be a fail for AMG.
I don't think they'll fail. First, it's a Mercedes, which makes it more livable than something like a 911. Second, it got a V8, people WILL go crazy for V8 these days. Third, rich people love trying new. Fourth, the new SL have 4wd and 4ws, which make it easier to drive unlike the GT(which is a race car covered in a GT shell) or the 911 is straight up a car designed for the track.
@@iamcarl4591 Not all 911's are built for the track. The GT3 is, but the GTS is daily drive-able. I agree there will always been a segment of the rich who will want a Mercedes, but for the performance enthusiasts that this car is targeting compared to the previous generation, there are better options. I wanted this car so bad and when I found it how much it cost, I purchased a C8 Corvette Stingray at MSRP (it was a customer order not dealer stock order that's how I was able to get it at MSRP) and I get more performance, fun and attention here in Canada than that SL ever could. In North America - one of Merc's largest market - there are too many other options for people to select over the SL. That's why I say it's going to be a financial dud for Mercedes. If you really want an AMG, wait until the AMG CLE Cabrio comes out and this SL will fade away. Or if you like the tech, get a AMG GLC or C-Class, both great choices over this bloated vehicle. And, of course, there's the next generation AMG GT just around the corner.
@@dash-ryan To be honest, I don't even think the c8 is compared with SL since these are in complete different target but ok. The 911, my experience of driving a Carrera and a base model GT. I prefer driving the GT. The 911 have basically no storage area and the rear engine configuration is scary when driven hard on Hong Kong's mountain pass. Also, I think you underestimated the target audience of the SL. There's lots of wealthy people complaining the GT being too firm to daily. The SL certainly fixed that. The R8 is also becoming a history. Those R8 buyers might consider a SL when they want a change because it's 4wd.
@@iamcarl4591 perhaps I'm underestimating. But I watch all the carspotter UA-cam channels especially in rich areas like Monaco, London, Puerto Bans, Dubai, etc. Haven't seen a new SL yet. Maybe it's just a matter of time ...
@@dash-ryan yea perhaps it's still relatively new Plus the production of the car is slow. I guess it's the same goes for the Ferrari 296 or Roma which is still rare to see compared to 488.
Great review again 👍

Good review! I definitely prefer the chrome package. It brings out the luxurious tone of the SL.
This car looks amazing. My dream is to ride one oneday.

I love the higher than usual amount of sass in this video 😂😂😂
:)
So, people who should buy 25000 euro cars, what do you think about this 200000 euro car?

I guess. Also, wouldn't it be easier to just put a physical button? :)

If it's any consolation, in Poland it costs about the same now :/

Great looking car...MINUS the disgusting soft-top. FFS If a $200,000 car does not have a hardtop you can drive it off a cliff.
The old Mercedes SLK is better. The SL is too gimmicky. And Annoying.
