Thank you very much Jon. This is the least I can do for the liberators of Europe. Absolute a must see whenever you come over to the Netherlands. Nothing has changed over the years. And is identical as in Band of Brothers.
It happened here at the crossroads. That day when captain winters balls grew so big, they shoved and entire SS battalion out of the area and he secured his place at Odins table.
Excellent episode and amazing to see the real location in such detail after only having seen it on Band of Brothers. I can"t wait to visit the site one day!
It sure is, but I always wonder how many people know what happened. as they drive past it every day. And I hope you will be able to visit the fields in person one day.
@@TravelingToHistory that’s the thing with these places isn’t it. Time just moves on past but monumental moments occurred there. I can’t wait to make it to the Netherlands one day, hopefully this time next year to see it all!
I found this very interesting as I have visited the crossroads on a battlefields tour of The Band of brothers On this tour we were lucky to have a knowledgeable guide who we nicknamed him Storming as his name is Norman Thank you for bringing back memories of our visit ❤
Thank you for a very well done video that helps to better understand the battle. To answer your question as to why the Germans targeted the crossroads I don’t know for certain. However, it is standard procedure that when planning a military operation that you also try to anticipate where the enemy might be or what they might consider important and pre-plan artillery on those locations. A crossroads, a hilltop, bridges, prominent structures and other natural or manmade features will be plotted so that artillery can quickly fire on them. Even if your enemy isn’t exactly on those feature, then it still makes it easy to quickly adjust the artillery fire from the pre-planned features.
The Germans likely had the cross roads as a registered on-call target. In the US military, we do the same thing. Not all registered targets are actually registered but sometimes if you have a good gun crew / FO team, fire missions can be executed with surprising accuracy.
@@TravelingToHistory when you visit these places do you go there with the metal detector :)? I love band of brothers and have watched it so many times 😂 I'll watch it again tomorrow 😂👍 Warm greetings from Germany :)
No I only make videos about the locations. But i would really like it with the metal detector. But unfortunately I don't have time for that hahah I already have to make time for the videos
Ive never understood why the second lot of SS troops ran down from the top of the dike into the open field to be mowed down with the first lot. Does anyone know why they didnt just flank Easy company and catch them on the road with no cover? 🤔

I did in the past. And I must say it was experience on it's own. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
