    Rating Change: ~1860 -> ~1880 for those wondering! Also this was an in-person, over-the-board tourney. Quite happy with it! Like and subscribe! :)

      How often do USCF ratings get refreshed? In Finland it's every friday.

    • @iwantcheckmate
      @iwantcheckmate  2 дні тому

      @ Officially they are updated once a month. But whenever the tourney director submits results you can see a temporary rating (which is unofficial but usually not off by much). Those temp ratings aren't used for pairings, just your once-a-month updated rating. I wish ours updated every Friday hahaha

    Nice start to the tournament! I think you might have played over solidly/passively in the openings. If your not going to prep mych you should keep a sharp eye for how the position can transform, especially if you see a move that is a bit strange. I think the first game the opening was a combination of bit of needing a warm up to calculation some unfamiliarity with the opening and letting your opponent's rating intimidate you. However you adapted to the situation really well. I would really avoid defending B and R vs R it is a nightmare to defend especially with 5 second delay. I believe after Rf5 and Ke4 Bc8 was the more practical alternative. I believe in the second game the engine was saying Bf5 was a mistake because you can play dxc5 and hold onto the pawn. But nice game otherwise. The last game was also relatively clean. Gl in your next rounds!

    I have seen so many rook vs rook and bishop endings. one where hikaru was pushing and literally 1 move away from checkmate but it was the 50th move and was a draw. In the recent Tata steel tournament Divya also had a similar rook vs rook bishop and she lost as it was mate in 10 and she needed 11 moves for 50 move rule.

    Congratulations on your tournament and the rating climb. My understanding is you need 2200 OTB ELO to be a NM? I have never played in a tournament so I learned you no longer needed to write down the moves when below 5 minutes. I do wish tournaments would record the game so you won't have to rely on memory. I feel for you on the first game, with a drawn game lost to extreme time crunch. However, I agree you played really well against a (an?) NM
    At 30:24, both Rfd8 or Rad8 are the only moves. Very strange why game analysis called Rfd8 dubious.

    • @iwantcheckmate
      @iwantcheckmate  6 днів тому +1

      Yes! Just have to cross 2200 to be a (an? I don't know either) NM. It would be nice if there were a way to have those moves, a bit of a shame. I appreciate the support!

    36:10 why is it better to go Bd7 Bc6 better than to go b6 Bb7?

    • @iwantcheckmate
      @iwantcheckmate  6 днів тому

      My reasoning was that the Bc6 is ‘anchored’ or protected by the b7 pawn. So if I even play d4 to attack his queen, my bishop is protected. If I played b6 then Bb7, and tried d4 my bishop would be undefended without the extra move of protecting it with a rook or something. Good question!

      Good question! For each move, before our timer starts to tick down, we get a 5 second delay to write down our moves. Pretty sure it was Bobby Fischer's idea, so that notating wouldn't eat into your time to think :)
