Rating Change: ~1860 -> ~1880 for those wondering! Also this was an in-person, over-the-board tourney. Quite happy with it! Like and subscribe! :)
Yisss.
Nice!
How often do USCF ratings get refreshed? In Finland it's every friday.
@ Officially they are updated once a month. But whenever the tourney director submits results you can see a temporary rating (which is unofficial but usually not off by much). Those temp ratings aren't used for pairings, just your once-a-month updated rating. I wish ours updated every Friday hahaha
EXCELLENT game against an NM holy shit. You definitely are titled player material
All it really takes is one blunder
Thanks! Yeah it was an exhausting game and the next round started shortly after. All part of the experience haha
CM at least right here
Keep the game review stickers
Thanks for the feedback! :)
Yeah I like them too
@@ChessGeneralOfWarme too
Martin has been training you for this
Martin loves to put his Kids over
Dude you really are a talented and skilled chess player brotha!
I appreciate that!
Good job Tony
It’s “Toeknee” bro
Great game against the national master, especially considering the rating difference!🎉
Thank you!
@@iwantcheckmate time to find who the NM is
"Oh you're a chess youtuber? Is that how you train?"
iwantcheckmate: "hah right about that"
LOL With Martin as my coach I must be unstoppable
I'm more interested in you getting NM than Gotham getting GM. For some reason. Keep'em coming!
Thank you!
same!
Looks like you'll be NM in no time with that level of play
I hope so!
Love the way you analyze games, it feels like a fresh way to keep up
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the analysis :)
Love this new laid back format, very educational
I can’t believe IwantCheckmate is actually Toeknee under disguise
LOL It was me all along smh
Good job mate! Shame about losing to the NM but you played really well. Been watching you for a while now and I’ve really enjoyed your content! I’m still really new to chess so your explanations are really good and I appreciate it a lot. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Yes a bit of a shame haha but still a good learning experience. I appreciate this kind comment and more to come! :)
Happy to see you have a nice tournament ❤
Real question is what would evil Martin play in your situation and if your opponents would beat Martin with 25 queens. Martin aside, I am glad you did well against such a high rated opponents, I had so many problems seeing all that
Haha the real question is if Martin can coach me all the way to NM. Glad you enjoyed!
I love how you review these games! I feel like as a low elo player, I learn a lot from your break downs and I’ve started learning the London as well 😂
I’m happy they’re helpful! And yes!! Welcome to the Londoner family!!
Bro i love your video's so much, they are just so calm and that you explain everything you did/do is just so cool
Thank you :)
You’re one of the best UA-camr and chess players that’s awesome
Thank you! :)
Great games! Thank you for bringing us along for this journey, I have a lot of faith in you!
Appreciate that, means a lot!
Im not gonna lie ive been subbed to you for a month or two now and only just realized you have 17k subscribers. I figured you had 100k+ this entire time by how well and simply you can explain positions to players not as good as yourself. You've got a bright future keep it up my man!
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words, and I'm glad you enjoy the content :)
@@iwantcheckmateFor sure!
Very well played!
I appreciate it!
Love the vids man haven’t played in a year but you’ve gotten me back into it!
Let's goooo glad to hear it!
GG! All three games were very well played! i hope you'll get you National Master title soon!
Thank you!
great job and great video, i enjoy both the eval bar and the game reviews ticks. a lot of good chess being played on this channel
I appreciate it! Glad you’re enjoying the content :)
Hey, I'm not sure if it's possible, but I've always liked seeing the clock just to get a sense of where better players are spending their time. Great video nonetheless, looking forward to the next one!
Thanks! I was considering writing down my time and my opponents time and may do so for next tournament since I’ve had some requests for this :)
Nice start to the tournament! I think you might have played over solidly/passively in the openings. If your not going to prep mych you should keep a sharp eye for how the position can transform, especially if you see a move that is a bit strange. I think the first game the opening was a combination of bit of needing a warm up to calculation some unfamiliarity with the opening and letting your opponent's rating intimidate you. However you adapted to the situation really well. I would really avoid defending B and R vs R it is a nightmare to defend especially with 5 second delay. I believe after Rf5 and Ke4 Bc8 was the more practical alternative. I believe in the second game the engine was saying Bf5 was a mistake because you can play dxc5 and hold onto the pawn. But nice game otherwise. The last game was also relatively clean. Gl in your next rounds!
Thanks for the detailed analysis - I'll definitely keep this in mind for my next tournament! And thanks for watching :)
You gotta study and practice chess like crazy if you're serious about this
Congrats on your win! Way to represent the London
Thank you! Good to hear from another Londoner. :D
Wow you're a better player than I originally thought. Proud of you man!
I appreciate that!
Im so proud! Keep going legend this is your destiny! 💪 🔥
Thanks, I appreciate the support!
Tysm for the evaluation bar! :D
I always knew you are Tony
To be fully honest 1 week ago I didnt know much about chess past how the pieces can move, I found the game to be a bit pretentious and most of the people who played it to be very smug about it but this channel has really got me interested because of how good you are at explaining your moves and keeping things entertaining. Great content!
Thank you! I'm very happy that it's been helpful. More to come :)
Brother thank you so much I just found this Vedio and instantly subscribed I am 1932 fide currently and even I am on the grind to cm tital you really motivated me and keep posting these vedio would love to see them. hopefully both of can achieve what we what ❤❤
Hey man thanks for the support! I believe you can make the title keep up the good work, we're both going to make it!
@ ❤️❤️
I am so here for the ride. Waiting for that 1 million sub special
Congrats for having a good tournament. Love your content.
Appreciate it!
Iwantcheckmate, I have found you to be one of, if not my favorite chess creator, I am a lowly 900 rapid player, however I find your content entertaining and easy to comprehend. I began watching Gothamchess before I found you, however I have found that I am captivated by each and every one of your videos, I would love to play you in a chess match one day.
I appreciate that! I'm glad my content is enjoyable for you :)
Great Job! Hope to see more similar content on the channel!!
This video boutta be a banger
Idea: playing against Magnus but you alternate moves with Stockfish.
That’s a Gotham video but that would be cool to see
Off topic but you have an awesome voice, very full and clear. You would be a good public speaker.
Thank you :)
I have seen so many rook vs rook and bishop endings. one where hikaru was pushing and literally 1 move away from checkmate but it was the 50th move and was a draw. In the recent Tata steel tournament Divya also had a similar rook vs rook bishop and she lost as it was mate in 10 and she needed 11 moves for 50 move rule.
Yeah, rook endgames can be super tricky
Great video - I really liked the first game breakdown. I did not get to the second game - 40 minutes is a lot of time for chess content as it's very mentally taxing to follow along.
Thanks! And no worries that's understandable
5:02 bro😂😂😂
You killed it
Thank you!!
study your endgames!! you could have gone into a pawn down rook endgame and defended the philidor position which is much much easier than the rook bishop vs rook endgame
Great Vid as always 🔥 Also good luck on your journey but could you try to show the time of you and your Opponent next time? This would be really nice to have
Yeah! I’ll have to notate our time usage next tourney because there’s been lots of requests for that :)
He Did it
Nice job Tony! Maybe you should get 1 of the game reviews, make those moves, and see what Martin does
love your vids man!
I appreciate it!
Tony is such a cool name bro 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate it LOL
good job! Keep up the grind
Thanks! Will do
I love chess keep going love the channel
Excited for the next live!
Nice man good stuff
Need more martins in the video though
Great commentary!
This game made me very happy (also new Lore about your name)
tony gonna get natural mother soon (jokes aside, good luck on your journey! hope you get national the master rank!)
The Noob Martin title is coming my way for sure (and thanks!)
That's really cool, good job 👍
Thank you!
National master soon 🎉🎉 keep going.
Congratulations on your tournament and the rating climb. My understanding is you need 2200 OTB ELO to be a NM? I have never played in a tournament so I learned you no longer needed to write down the moves when below 5 minutes. I do wish tournaments would record the game so you won't have to rely on memory. I feel for you on the first game, with a drawn game lost to extreme time crunch. However, I agree you played really well against a (an?) NM
At 30:24, both Rfd8 or Rad8 are the only moves. Very strange why game analysis called Rfd8 dubious.
Yes! Just have to cross 2200 to be a (an? I don't know either) NM. It would be nice if there were a way to have those moves, a bit of a shame. I appreciate the support!
Dang good luck
😮 Did not expect name reveal
Great tourney!
Thanks!
yoo lets go, keep going!!
The game sticker is great! Dont remove it btw nice match
Thanks for the feedback!
Bro Pls Remember me
I was here since u had 700 subs 😭
Hahaha I appreciate you
So here for this!
Love this more pls
Definitely keep the stickers!!!
I just about know the chess rules, but i love watching your videos!
Thank you!
Good work played extremely well in all the games. Do you think playing bots and crazy piece only games has affected the way u play?
Thank you! And interesting question, I don’t believe it has made me concretely stronger but it certainly gave me a chance to return to the game with a lighthearted fun approach :)
I'd rather have the stickers and no eval bar than only the bar
now add one pawn
GOOD GAME
I live in a small town up north, I wish I could play in person
wow superb
I had my first brilliiant mpve before you? That's crazy. I'm currently 450 rated btw 😅
gl mam
Do you think playing so many odds games against strong bots made your chess better?
Probably not concretely, but it’s been a good way to get back into the sport and make it fun :)
I hope you gain NM title quicker
36:10 why is it better to go Bd7 Bc6 better than to go b6 Bb7?
My reasoning was that the Bc6 is ‘anchored’ or protected by the b7 pawn. So if I even play d4 to attack his queen, my bishop is protected. If I played b6 then Bb7, and tried d4 my bishop would be undefended without the extra move of protecting it with a rook or something. Good question!
Is it possible you can show the time?
This is a great point. I am considering notating my time in tourneys so I can edit over after approximately how much time each move took. I know some other players that do it to work on thinking more and spending more time each move. Thanks for the input
yeah but make sure your spending your time thinking as well don’t wanna make it to were your only focusing on writing and what not
I thought your name was iwantcheckmate I don’t know how to react now knowing your name is Tony
LOL
10:17 how is that not the top engine move...
Taking the rook with check might be better somehow
king
I don't play tournament play. Can you explain what you mean by a 5 second delay?
I think it's just a bonus time. Not sure tho
Good question! For each move, before our timer starts to tick down, we get a 5 second delay to write down our moves. Pretty sure it was Bobby Fischer's idea, so that notating wouldn't eat into your time to think :)

Was this an online tournament or were you playing on the board?
This was an over the board tournament.
@ adds a different level of difficulty. Love the tournament reviews!
How much time did you have for all moves?
Game 70+5
are these fide ratings?
USCF
What time control
Game 70+5
Is it possible to get time stamps ?
I was considering writing down my and my opponents time usage for this. Thanks for the feedback!
@ yhh it’s really great to see how long you spent thinking of a move and when you’re under time pressure what happens.
excuse me sir also add your game timings so itll be interesting
That's a great idea - I'll try to note my time for next time!
Wait. "Tony"? Do you no longer wantcheckmate?
LOL I can confirm I do still want checkmate despite my name 🫡
Dang... That's really deepthink play. Great job!
Would have loved to see that endgame king walk play out for you.
Let's go, I clicked so fast!
Day 31 of posting a comment to help with algorithm until this channel reaches where it needs to be ( good start i must say )
I appreciate your support and thanks!
Day 10 of asking for giving chatgpt one queen until I lose (I hope you become a NM soon!)
I appreciate it :)
Yep no problem! :)
How old are you?
I am 20
