My theory on the old clown sightings is that they started out as promo for I.T. and random ppl started doing it and it got out of hand.

I think the original sightings that kicked things off back then were from a marketing stunt for an indie horror film. The IT remake coming about around the same time just fueled the fire.
I read an article about this clown a few hours ago. Some of the people in comments that claimed to be from the area said they think it's really fun and have actually been hoping to run into him. Really enjoyed your coverage of this.
Ah the return of the clowns spent my junior and senior years in high school out with friends “clown hunting” and yes it was in the south and yes firearms were involved along with baseball bats 😂

I played hide and seek with the local police in the 90's. The town where I lived was a flagship town for CCTV when it rolled out as it was a violent place to live with lots of public houses in a small area and lots of drunken people fighting etc. I kept popping up on the CCTV late night and every time they sent a van or car, I'd hide from them then pop up somewhere else on CCTV and rinse and repeat. They managed to recognise and ID me, but they could not catch me. I got pulled over the next night and asked if I was the person who played hide and seek with the police the night before. I confirmed it and the police happily let me go.

Where I grew up, you could probably get away with that in the more public/main parts of town where people would just call the cops. But, if you were poking around the residential parts of town during the off-Halloween season in that getup, there’s a really good chance the neighborhood would not take kindly to those kinds of shenanigans and you’d see/hear a gun or two… I heard the unmistakable sound of a slide racking for a lot less when I was a kid

As a Flint native, it seems like people haven't realized Flint has basically been abandoned. People can buy up whole blocks of houses because so many people and businesses have fled. We aren't even ranked on most dangerous cites anymore and used to be third, behind Detroit at number 1.
