July 5th Shelf Cloud

  • A Friday morning storm system, ahead of an approaching cold front, brought a warned cluster of storms through most of Kentucky. As the system was entering Laurel County, out of Rockcastle County, along I75 in Kentucky, this incredible shelf cloud formed ahead of the 60+ mph winds.
    The layering & colors of this shelf cloud were incredible. Scud clouds along the base would form, detach, & more form as it encountered warm, humid air on the leading edge. As it continued south & east, it picked up an even more yellow/orange hue to the layers.
    This aerial video was taken near exit 49 on I75, 8 miles north of London, Kentucky.

    Looks like some rotation and a possible funnel

      I didn't see any rotation. If it was it would have been on the northern part of the storm.
