Good stuff Justin, but people have to also know that they can do all this and more and their videos may still go nowhere. If you’re a small or new creator reading this, don‘t forget to keep your passion alive because that passion might be the only thing keeping you going when the audience just isn’t there for your channel.

Great advice as always! We realize it's a process, not a race and we are in it for the long haul. Just about to hit our first milestone, 100 subscribers, which seemed so impossible when we started so I think when that happens it will be a nice reminder that outting the work in eventually pays off!

I'm working on my 4tth video now and these are things I've seen before on other how-to videos (including yours :) But your explanation reinforces them really well and sheds new light on them. I just released my first video this past Monday and must have committed every newbie youtube sin there is. Oh well here we go….every Monday a short review on a cannabis concentrate, cart, or disposable. It might be an internet yarn, but I hear tell the algorithms are more charitable to vaping over smoking.

These tips are very helpful, thank you! I agree with your point of outsourcing video editing as it saves a lot of time, but in the initial stages it's one of the basic things everyone should learn. Outsourcing will definitely improve the quality of the video, but its also important to learn and this will improve one's creativity. What are your thoughts on this?
While it can be helpful to know the skills yourself, I really don’t think it’s required. I could learn to use woodworking tools.. or if it’s of no interest to me at all, I could get someone else to do that work that specialises in that specifically.
Justin, I'm a newer UA-camr, thank you for suggesting outsourcing editing. I think it's been my biggest hold up so far!! Also, I've been asking for subscribers too soon in my video! TU!

THANK YOU for explaining the split testing!!! This is awesome!I "no ones going to see your video masterpiece" LOL. Yeh I feel that way at times. My AVR is usually pretty decent, so I think I'm checking (most of) the boxes of providing value within the video, but obviously if they don't click , they won't see that! My impression HAVE increased, though, so one step at a time I suppose! (I have squirrel brain bad too but now I can use older age as an excuse!! LOL). Cheers!! Nikki

Thanks Justin, I appreciated this video, especially the history of your channel. I have an odd question for you? I have a camping channel where I record my adventures. I use natural sound and I also talk on camera in the videos. Do you think I could start a second channel, an ASMR channel, where I take that same content and re-edit it as a new video where I don't talk on camera but I only use natural sound in that video. My clips would be longer and the video would be longer. I'm not sure if that is against the UA-cam rules, if it's reused content? Thanks.

What is interesting to me is that you have always had your brother helping you with filming and also someone to talk to and strategize with. What do you do if you are by yourself? This is a lot more difficult, to the point that I have never gone anywhere with Y Tube videos. The technology, the complexity, all of this stuff on top of being an expert on the content, is just too much. Having said that, I really like your channel anyway. Thanks.

Good information but I don't think NOT doing these things is automatically bad. As someone with NO filming, editing, or youtubing experience, I see this early stage as a learning experience. If fewer people watch the early videos -- that have poor sound, jumpy camera shots, and other issues -- I think I'm ok with that. I'll get better, and then I can apply some of these. Saved the video 😊

14:30 I have seen an elaborate microphone setup, very expensive I'm sure, and heard its echo. I note that the ABC and BBC use lav microphones almost everywhere.
I don't see the thumbnail. Ever. I see and read text, and then I might look for an illustrative picture. I want to know price first, if it's unaffordable, I don't care how good it is. I want to know what it does - the sausage, not the sizzle. I can delete Facebook ads, while having no idea what's being advertised.
Don't interrupt your story about your photography adventure to tell me about your wonderful clothing supplier. If your clothing supplier is a sponsor, make a separate video about that sponsor. I'll watch it if I am interested. If your sponsor's product has identifying marks, let me see them sometimes. It's placement.. You could sometimes show me you' loading your chosen images up to your website as part of your postprocessing workflow video. If you break your story, I will walk away.

Just started a channel and added Tube Buddy to Chrome but every time I try to login here or directly it sends me to the pain website page with "Install FREE Now" and "Explore Pricing" as the two main next steps. And I'm not actually logged in at all. Is it not free anymore or something? The url ends with "accessdenied"
