Honestly Thank you so much for all your great videos. Most engine modders would never share anything about the work they do. I've been reading a fair bit lately in an effort to better understand these engines, how they work and how to modify them just for my own interests and enjoyment and you have really helped with this video to increase my understanding. I honestly can't thank you enough for sharing what you have. Much respect and I'll be eagerly awaiting your next video.
Excellent! Really helped educate me about these engines. I looked up exactly what is done to modify these engines. Never looked into after 25 years. I stumbled upon this video, and you Sir, truly are a master.
Great video 👍🇦🇺 thank you for the insight into nitro engines it's a great hobby & there are so many different combinations into making a good engine. 🚗💨
Great video. I've never touched a nitro RC car in my life but the technology interests me. So far this has been the best video that I have come across which explains where the air is flowing and when. Subbed in the hopes of learning more and maybe 1 day having a play. 🇦🇺
11:45 that looks like a mito crank 13:05 I was going to say that looked my ops speedster sleeve Ive always wondered about the crank in the old Orion crf engine, there are slots in the crank opposite the window going thinner to thicker. Do you know what those do? Also, have you ever experimented with Singh grooves?
Yes a Mito Crank, And the sleeve is from a Ops or the other brand. I did talk about the grooves on an Orion crank on one video. I played with Singh groove a few years ago but havnen't done anything with them lately.
Hi Good video :-) I hava a exhaust question , can i move the engine powerband with difrent size and length of a hose after the silencer ? Sorry for my bad English . Regards
Yes making the header shorter or longer does change the powerband. Most older pipes with a silicone connector between them are pretty outdated. You would probably gain quite a bit of performance by getting a better pipe.
Hi this was a very interesting video. Im modding the sleeve on my .28 nitros just putting a smooth transition into the boost port and transfers . what silicone do they use in the crankshaft ?
Hi, I know we should measure the stock timing first and then we know what we have to do and we want to have nice 220 (160-60) timing, but my question is what is the impact/differences between cutting the opening and closing of the crank?...thanks
Hi sir first of all great vid very informative. I am searching the internet to find an answer to a question I have. I am hoping maybe you can help me, Is it possible to use a sleeve, piston and rod from one company in another crankcase. Eg. I have a hpi .21R SC and its parts are discontinued (or maybe I don't know that i am looking for) so i was wondering since novarossi help make that engine i can use their internals to bring the engine back to life.
7:10.... Around here we call them "Boost ports".... As the piston starts going down, the air pressure that builds up underneath of it as the volume in the crankcase is now shrinking starts to escape through that hole in the piston and helps to "blow" the air/fuel charge up into the regular transfer port above it when the piston uncovers it. It gives the air going into the tranfer port a "boost" to get moving and carry more of it in the the cylinder faster. It also helps to blow morebof the spent exhaust out of the cylinder as quickly as possible. This fact is why you should also run a different pipe made for a boost port engine when you're running one. The boost port gets the air moving into the cylinder more quickly, BUT it also ends up with a bunch more going out the open exhaust port also. You need a pipe with a different timed reflection wave, than one that is made for a 3-port engine with no boost ports, in order for the pipe to create a stronger, earlier, reflected wave to help push more of that fresh air/fuel charge that escaled out into the exhaust pipe back into the cylinder. If you used a pipe such as this on a 3-port engine, the reflected wave that pushes back would be too much, and be pushing exhaust back in the cylinder also. It's ALL about finding that perfect balance for the particular engine combo, including the port timing, flow, compression, rpm range, and so on.
@Mescalinum Sunshine true. I guess it would put the cost of manufacturing up to add these extra steps as well which would eat into the profit. Still you would think they would have found these mods in the designing phase of the engine and then put them into the production.
Over 30 years I've definitely seen micromotori improve. Some modifications are labor intensive like balancing the crank with tungsten after ramping. Nova Rossi gets close.
@@Happygrowercbris420 There is not much out there for engines bigger than a .21 that are high quality. A SH, Dynamite .28 are decent and a bit chepaer than the LRP 32. Novarossi made a great .28 but really hard to find right now.
There is alot more to modifying an engine than grinding slots. Mapping out all the port and crank timing and then optimizing it is way more important than a few cuts on the sleeve.
RIP Rex, You made this hobby better.

I had to look up what empirical meant but yes just based on my experience.

Hi this was a very interesting video.
Im modding the sleeve on my .28 nitros just putting a smooth transition into the boost port and transfers . what silicone do they use in the crankshaft ?
Very calming voice, one question what is readily available to fill the crank.
It has to be nitro safe, the good stuff I use is over $30.00 for a couple ounce tube!
Anyone knows what is the program they mentioned in the video. To calculate timing?

could I put a mac 28 head Barrel sleeve and piston in a 21 ? thanks
Most .28 have a bigger outer sleeve diameter and the crank has more stroke. I can't say for sure without seeing it but in most case it will not fit.

I got it from a retired engine modifier, I am not aware of any out there now.
Thank you very much , please make more....✌
Thanks🙂
What side of the crank window do you like to open up? Opening or closing?
Both, but you really can not do it without knowing where it is stock and knowing how much to take off.

I don't really get why the manufacturer does make the engine perfect from the factory?
