For your information, you should understand that Durga Puja in Bengal is pretty much managed by women, and Bengali women are the last ones you would call docile. The goddess they are dancing before is Durga, who went on a war with a man and won the war!

Reading English Subtitles in a hindi song can only give you a certain context of what the song means but it will definitely not give you the proper meaning of it. Hindi songs are like poems and it loses a lot of essence in translation.
Also, this movie is based on a book and how the author wrote his characters is not something we can really do anything about.

i like the fact that you guys are watching international films but please do some research before you say something stupid. this film is called devdas made by one of the best bollywood director with excellent actors and amazing set. and the film wasn't set in the georgian time if you are referring pride and prejudice but in 1920 during the british rule. please do watch the film to understand the story better. you will only understand the meaning of these songs if you watch the film.

'Dola re' is the song from an old Bollywood movie while 'Pinga' is from a recent one...

For a moment there I was actually going to say I liked their reactions. Well, I am confused now. Anyway, firstly thank you for doing this song. Some facts : 1) One of the leading ladies in this song "Madhuri Dixit" was pregnant at the time of shooting of this song. Otherwise I bet the steps would have been even more difficult. Because when one of the people in reaction says, 'repeating same thing over and over again". I dont see any repetition. The words in song conveyed the girls feelings; and each time different feeling. Pls, first line of song, in a classical Indian song, is often repeated after every "verse"/para. Repetition of dance: no repetition, except the signature step of song. (I am sure you must be aware what is a signature step); 2) The background of song is actually a "big prayer/pooja" of Goddess Durga (a female deity). You see oppression or any kind of submissiveness of females here? Song was a celebration not a show off of femininity, or something. Though, I have nothing else but Thank You to say to Headspread for doing this song.
