Walking into a record store back in 1985 to buy a Xymox LP, the store owner played me this new release from a Vancouver band called Skinny Puppy. It was their first full lenght LP "Bites"... I was hooked! I picked up both "Bites" and their previous release "Remission" and been a fan ever since. I was there when they toured with Severed Heads for their following album "Mind:TPI" in 1986... That was at Les Foufounes Électriques in my hometown, Montréal. Back then, nothing compared to Skinny Puppy. Saw them many more times, i was in that crowd at Club Soda back in 2014 when they were on tour for "Weapon". I couldn't make it for their final performance in april 2023 at M-Telus... They will be sorely missed... Legends!!! 👽
Thank you for posting! They played the night before I was to arrive for a visit home in Detroit and missed them here in Seattle. I have to say, the sound is extraordinary for fan-filmed footage!
God Bless you. I remember going to a show headlined by GWAR in Deep Ellum Dallas. SUPPOSEDLY Skinny Puppy was playing nearby, I never saw them live. Thanks for the vid it brings me back to 1988 when I was indoctrinated into Industrial Music. Skinny Puppy for all time.
I agree 100% that they were. the best puppy show I have been to was in 1987 at the Toronto concert hall it was the ain't it dead yet tour great great tour!!
unexpected ~ another wild ride that will be a tops performance..... thanks for this show {warlock really rocks, and so many newer songs that sound great!}
The "Eye Spy tour" was definitely a sensory overload or the show I saw. The backing film, plus the side projections, and lighting and the Costume changes made for a crazy show. Ogre may not be able to carry a show the way he could but he still knows how to perform.
Yeah BIG THANX for this!! Great effort, one of the better filmed shows. Good picture and the sound is truly good for a cam recording. Not the heavy bass distorted or fuzzy sound you usually get. It is quite clear and just needed a little EQ fiddling for my taste. I really enjoyed watching it and hope they will hit Germany some time soon. Skinny Puppy is still Skinny Puppy despite the changes every band evolves or goes through different phases that is natural. It would be totally boring if everything would stay the same, change is good, even though it might not please everyone. I still love what they do, so brap on :-)
True, the new SP is not like the old SP, however I hate to a break it to ya but they're artists, artists evolve, they change as the years progress, id be pretty fuckin disappointed if ALL their stuff sounded the same...Weapon was well composed and tastefully done, SP is and will always be masters of the music world
I agree. And Weapon has hints of old SP. If you are a true SP fan, you can pick up on it. I seen them on Last rights tour in '92. To date, NO ONE has came close to toppling them from my "best show ever" list at
Indeed. Weapon is awesome. There last two, though I like them, were spotty in my opinion. Weapon to me is consistently good all the way through and the material sounds awesome live and fits in good with the classics.
exactly.... those of you that get stuck in the oH they were better back in the day... Whatever.. My first SP show was when they played with Severed heads truly "back in the day" they as artist have grown and branched out.
so when do they play Vancouver again ? my 1st time I seen them was at luvafair in Vancouver during battle of the bands.....im keeping the eighties alive, see my list of great eighties tunes I've compiled from my memory as a Dj back then I wish I could a ticket to see them again I live in Nanaimo now
Top Comment is about how they are lame compared to old skinny puppy? I'm shocked to be honest. I was at this show, and quite a number of others over the years. If you're not looking at their body or work and what they've accomplished, and then just soaking in what they're doing currently after knowing all that? You're truly lost.
Sorry. That brutal and raw angst of early skinny puppy (especially during the cleanse fold and manipulate era) is gone. Especially since they are a member short. Their concert in deep elum Dallas tx 1988 was unreal
Nothing against the person who filmed this, because he did what he could, but this is NOT the correct angle to see this particular show -- this SP concert has multiple layers of video projections occurring at the same time, and when viewed from the front I assure you it's one of the most breathtaking concerts you will ever witness. But NONE of that is visible in this video because it's being viewed from the side instead of the front, and you are not getting the proper effect. It kills me to think people are watching this and judging SP based on a bad recording that doesn't reflect what you actually see.
It would've been nice to be in front... but the sound would've been off. Security were also hassling anyone down in front who appeared to be filming. So, enjoy.
I voted not to see Skinny Puppy in K,C. cause I am now 53 and all of my vampire friends are still young. And no cool club stuff left to wear, all turned to mouse crap by now in my abandoned digs in Detroit
I have to completely disagree here. SP's weapon is some of the hardest music to hit lately. & when they tour they play a great number of previous favorites. It's a great combination imo. Handover was poor (again, imo), weapon is spot on. In his 50's or not, I don't see any of todays emo punks putting out anything at this caliber of talent, or quality, or entertainment.
You just nailed it pal....don't know why the hell they didn't just form some other project toghether and just put a name to it and leave SP alone and in peace.....think it's actually disrespectful to Dwayne's memory to put out as much forgettable garbage now,Cd after gruesome Cd and geriatric "touring" included....Shame.....truly...long live old Skinny Puppy in our collectible memories....this is just a sad, cheap imitation...
Melvin Fleuretty speak for your self....puppy has never put out "garbage"... who are you to say what skinny puppy is?.... it started with the Kevin ' s and now it's continuing with them...we all miss aduk... but puppy lives with the Kevin 's...I went to this tour and it was amazing. New and old material. so plz bite your tongue when you can't grow with a band
To me Nivek is the “voice” of puppy, that’s it. And to me with the absence of Dwayne (who was basically the genius behind them) it seems like the group has fallen under the command of its front-man, who I respect, but don’t believe should be running the show. That and musicians tend have a rise and then fall in the work. I never seen a group that made successful album after successful album in a single continuity
Plus : The lightning looks disco (more on other videos). Nivek is different, and Cevin is not a drummer anymore... he looks like a famous DJ. No, this is not the same band :( The music orchestrality and stage drama are kind of gone.
So I'm guessing Trent Reznor is the most famous/successful industrial artist ever... Seeing this compared to the NIN shows is pathetic and sad. Looks like Ohgr is performing on a stage the size of an iPad.
It's not the size of your stage that matters. Saw SP on the Too Dark Park tour and will always remember it. Granted, not the same now but I would choose SP over NIN to see live anyday.
rew190 Well, yeah because Trent has a pop background. Doesn't mean NIN is not industrial. They are in fact the definition of industrial. Trent's pop background just made industrial more accessible through NIN.
Pete Agassi I'm not saying NIN wasn't what most would call industrial at some point, but to say they're the definition of industrial... nah. Trent Reznor has said as much. Comparing Skinny Puppy to NIN and calling it pathetic in comparison is pretty cringey, that's all.

the bassline in glasshouses is so dope, brings back fond memories
The best live band show in the history of shows PERIOD HANDS DOWN...
Thank you for posting! They played the night before I was to arrive for a visit home in Detroit and missed them here in Seattle. I have to say, the sound is extraordinary for fan-filmed footage!
It's all about choosing the right equipment. :)
I loved this show in Atlanta. Opened with "Convulsion".
Thank you for this, I wish I had gone to that show but I only discovered their music around 2016.
Can't wait to see them in Boston this November!!!!!
Amazing show, as always! Thank you for posting this, great to see from a different angle! I so love Skinny Puppy, since 1985 in the Hub Ballroom...
Awesome vid, thank you for the share!
Glass Houses... awesome.
This is fucking great!
I've been a fan for 30 years, seen them only 4 times but this is just as good. Thanks for uploading this video!
Loved this show !! we were sitting right behind you . Glad you got such a good capture of it .
one of the best skinny puppy shows I have been to. Glass houses was great. I wish they would tour more!
on my bucket list to see
love it
one of the best skinny puppy shows I have been to. and holy shit glass houses live wow a trip down memory lane
The ones between 1988 and 1991, were more mysterious, dark, and orchestral.
I agree 100% that they were. the best puppy show I have been to was in 1987 at the Toronto concert hall it was the ain't it dead yet tour great great tour!!
rivethead33
I saw Vivisect VI in Montreal in that period, with the fake dog being opened lol Great show.
solid show for sure
rivethead33 Oh yeah !
The show in Miami was great.Just like this one EXCELLENT>>>>>>
I'm glad you like my comment.. You were at the Miami show?
unexpected ~ another wild ride that will be a tops performance..... thanks for this show {warlock really rocks, and so many newer songs that sound great!}
Absolutely fantastic! A million thanks!!
Yes!
Thank you for posting Shifty Dave. Ohger and Cevin are the BEST!

perfectly stated

y tú eres el mismo de hace 25 años?

Thank you so much,I've missed them :)

At least they do that at all their indoor shows now, so you can watch any other live video since insolventseas and enjoy the trippy mess.

THIS IS THE CRIMINAL 4GE
I voted not to see Skinny Puppy in K,C. cause I am now 53 and all of my vampire friends are still young. And no cool club stuff left to wear, all turned to mouse crap by now in my abandoned digs in Detroit
Fuck the "scene" Nazis that care what you are wearing. Gate keeping conformist losers missing the point.
Does he have eczema really bad, and that's why he's doing that to his left hand and wrist?
It's not the same without the vocal effects 😒
Pretty lame compared to old Skinny Puppy, but what do you expect now that Ogre is in his 50's.
CanyonMid
U mad bro?
Would be even more lame if SP were still the same way they used to be 30 years ago. Change is good, wtf is wrong with some people? smh.
I have to completely disagree here. SP's weapon is some of the hardest music to hit lately. & when they tour they play a great number of previous favorites. It's a great combination imo. Handover was poor (again, imo), weapon is spot on.

Edward Ka-Spell is older and still deliver a great product. Skinny loose their original style. The last 2 shows I saw were boring.
In the 80's they were high on drugs and spooky as fuck. Then they got sober. :(
Oh and Dwayne died. I think that's what truly killed them.
You just nailed it pal....don't know why the hell they didn't just form some other project toghether and just put a name to it and leave SP alone and in peace.....think it's actually disrespectful to Dwayne's memory to put out as much forgettable garbage now,Cd after gruesome Cd and geriatric "touring" included....Shame.....truly...long live old Skinny Puppy in our collectible memories....this is just a sad, cheap imitation...

i saw SP and NIN at the KoolHaus in Toronto the same year, so what does that say about how successful they both are?
As much as I like NIN, they haven't been industrial since the 90s, and even then it was poppy.
Both great bands, but that's a shitty comparison.
