Interesting question. I think that is just preparation for a future extension of the line. I have not been in Newcastle since the opening, so I don't know if the situation is still like that after a half year or not...
@@railfanworld I believe so, however that wall is a construction site to an apartment building. I am a Novocastrian but I don't go into town often since I live out west of the city
Holy smokes thats slow. Not just in terms of travel speed which is abysmal but also the dwell times at stops are insanely long. I wonder if the battery charging might have something to do with needing to be at stops for that long. But it really shouldn't take more than 25 seconds to be at a stop from the doors opening to the tram leaving, yet this tram takes double that!
What travesty, not embracing history (look at Perth train station), this only services a commercial, if it had gone down like Darby st then Parkway av or Glebe Rd it would make a 1000% more sense

so bloody slow, on straight track and at stops. :o a trolley bus line would probably be faster and more efficient.
Love the automation. Panto raises automatically when aligned. It also drops as soon as door button is closed?
only goes for 2km
Yes, 2.7 km to be exact. This is just a start, as they have extensions planned I think.
Thanks for the 1k views!
"thank you for travelling with light rail" hahahha
What is on the left of Newcastle interchange station?
I saw some track go into a wall

Where is the overhead wires.
The trams use on board energy storage technology to allow the majority of the line to operate without overhead wires. They charge at the tram stops.
and it's still operating now 3 years on and it's nothing special it's a nice ride from the Interchange to the Beach stop
They ripped up a perfectly good rail line and replaced it with that! What a travesty.
At least they didn't rip up the rail at helensvale for the G:link extension they just expanded the station
Will they run 24/7? Or just during the day.
From 5am to 1am, seven days a week
@@railfanworld Cheers. That would suit most peoples needs.
Jesus it’s slow.
Even the G:link on the Gold Coast is faster then this
