i took the light rail the other day and noticed the driver was the same as this video. well done to him, difficult job and has remained focused and alert. he was also driving the other trams for the l1 - citadis so has learnt both trams.
thats cool how he has those two monitors on each side of him that shows the sides of the train just so he wouldnt have to get up and look out the window to see when it is time to shut the doors after the passengers get on/off at each station
that is actually a feature of the urbos. the other tram alstom doesn't have cameras that cycle inside the tram automatically. they just show the outside view (basically the left side cameras only here)
Nice! Last time I was in Sydney was January 2017. I'm from NZ. Would like to visit again and try the light rail and driverless trains. Love the double decker trains. We have a large fleet of 100% electric double decker buses in Wellington.

I see the driver use hand gestures/signals for direction of travel as he departs the station. Just like the Japanese Train controllers do. Double safe.

Either Sydney doesn't have as bad a graffiti problem as Melbourne, and/or does more to remove it. If this was Melbourne there would be graffiti on every vertical (and sometimes horizontal) surface.
When I went to Melbourne in 2017 and 2019 it was very noticeable how bad it was. Sydney used to be just as bad until about 15 years ago, when the government at the time doubled the penalties and restricted sales of spray cans to over 18s. Since then it's been a big downward trend.
Melbournian here. I think our government has just accepted it and can’t be bothered fixing it so they just say that it’s “street art” and then they call it a day.

I noticed at 31:21 that the rails connect with the now completed L2/L3 routes. Does this mean that it would be possible to travel from Circular Quay to Dulwich Hill?
The link is only to allow the Citadis trams on the L2/3 to go to Lilyfield (out of service) for heavy maintenance. Other than that, trams are not allowed on the other line.
Recently all of the L1 trams have been taken out of service because... well, I dont really know, but they have been replaced with L2 trams, I’m assuming that is how they got onto the L1 line
Thanks very much. Not sure how often I have been oon your channel. I loved the "panoramic" view. This has been the best Dulwich Hill- Central video I have seen. Was this a later-model tram? A recent trip I did the driver very kindly allowed me to video out to Dulwich Hill - from up behind him. Was Marion platform a tad longer than others? Noticed no ramp behind you? Was that stored someplace else? The one time I took my wife in her power chair on this trip we could not get off at Dulwich Hill as no sign of a ramp.
Very cool, the driver has cameras for side views, much safer, and better view for safety. Yet, I do not like the tram on the streets in the downtown areas, Like my city in St. Louis, it goes underground when entering downtown. Maybe the new driverless trains go underground more in CBDs.

After driving for hours on end like this you can get some very bad cramps and it’s not a good thing when you have to be hyper aware of your surroundings
I haven’t been on any public transport since the beginning of the spicy cough. Been on the Newcastle battery charging trams that replaced the truncated heavy rail. I still see plenty of people using it but the tap on/ off isn’t enforced on buses, trams or the ferry cup here. The patronage numbers are very low here.
I find it always curious when trams/trolleys/streetcars have to stop at traffic lights and don’t “fly on a green wave “ as they do in my city because of contacts at the catenary…

The DLR is like that - just as you're coming to each station, you get told where the train is going and what the next stop is. It's probably a bit of psychology - there's no point in announcing anything just as you leave a station, because you can't do anything with the information at that point. Better to tell people: "this is your stop."
For some reason I vagily rember i was on the L2 and there was 2 drivers on the tram 1 was off duty I remember the off duty knocking on the door and telling he on duty driver there was an issue with the tram and the on duty one says he knows about it and he is going to contact the depot I think it was some kinda leak in the back of the cab
It is a nice ride I agree on my way I get of at Wentworth Park to do my University Exam at the LTS. There are a lot of cracks in these Spanish CAF trams why did they scrap the the Aussie Built Blue Trams that were more reliable than these Spanish CAF tram. Proabaly some dumb Government decisions. On the other side of Dulwich Hill there is a Driverless Metropolis Car set coming to you in 2024, it's going to be an interesting ride under the Sydney Harbor from Baragaroo to Victoria Cross too.

Only ridden on this line once, it took over hour to get to Lilyfield many unexplained stoppages around Pyrmont and Glebe, haven't been back for a second look, newer rolling stock on this line now. I will come back for a second look at this line. Should have built on a viaduct from Haymarket to Central.
Except for the section between central and the powerhouse mueseum. It's reusing an old frieght line. It was initially built on the cheaper side because it wasn't expected to be so popular and useful.
Why do you give between 3 to 5 seconds for passengers to board. At 2nd stop it was 5 seconds at 3rd stop it was oy 3 at 4th it was only 6 seconds. What's wrong with you rocking head in different ways and making crazy hand gesterd? Are you okay?
Big concerns about the driver of this service. He was displaying some very erratic hand and arm movements as well as exaggerated body movements throughout the journey
What he is doing is called “RTC”, ( Risk Trigger Commentry). As drivers, we do this to reduce the risks of incidents, i.e. overspeeding or driving through a danger signal. He is one of the great drivers on L1 and he has never done any mistakes while driving and he is also one of my mentors and I learned a lot from him.
Public transport isn't meant to be as fast as travelling by cars, it's meant to be cheap and affordable transport for the public so the top priorities are capacity, reliability and comfort. This is considered fast for light rail and trams since most of the trip it is seperated from the road

The old GOODS ROAD has changed a lot since I was at Enfield Correction--- the road is the same,it's the scenery that has changed, gone are all the sidings that we use to shunt. The driver is a bit 'up himself ' ---not acknowledging his fellow drivers!!!!!Well a after driving freight trains and inner city trains----all I can say is WHAT A BORING JOB!!!!!

Trains sometimes run on city roads and sometimes on elevated tracks. I enjoyed a wide variety of views from the train window. thank you.
The basic track was a goods line back in antiquity but was slightly altered to become L1. (Light Rail not train or tram)

The line didn't open until 1997 and it wasn't to Dulwich Hill, it was only to Lilyfield.

The L1 trams made by CAF are not equipped for the in-ground power supply used in the CBD and have different wheel profiles to those on the L2/3 trams

These urbos 3 do use the connecting track because a long time ago I saw urbos 3s at the Kingsford depot

You can buy single tickets from the opal top up machines at all the stations
You can hear an inspector explain it during the video. You buy an Opal smartcard at a nearby convenience store.

I think they can go to the facilities at Dulwich Hill, it's a terminus, so the tram stays longer at that stop.

They scrapped the Aussie built trams because they were breaking down and it was cheaper to replace them than consistently fix them

Pedestrian warning lights/bells need to be installed at all the stations.
There are bells already on the tram itself and rings them whenever it’s about to go across a road or a place where pedestrians walk
