      Love the club. Our Rags To Riches guys were going to go to the big game tomorrow but they couldn't get tickets. Was hoping to film a special episode about the club as well as a future "franchise vs football" documentary.

    Absolutely brilliant channel. Great analysis with nice art makes it very enjoyable and easy to follow, especially with the visual representations (bars and graphs and such).
    Now I'm not British so maybe I might be missing out something here, but why is it that West Ham hold responsibility for the commercial establishments around the stadium?
    I understand their business will be affected, but unless West Ham had a financial say in them, aren't they acting independently from the club?
    Ie. the pubs and bars chose to set up around the stadium hoping for increased clientele.

    I really love this analysis. I would have liked for you to describe the Boleyn community. Can anyone from the London area describe the demographics of that area? Is it a working class neighborhood or one that is more well to do? Is that area mostly occupied by renters or home owners?

      Ismael Serrano the old boelyn ground was basically the east end of london in a nutshell, small homes and flats, shops and also cafe's and pubs. A lot of those businesses will probably shut down as a lot were kept alive by the stadium. What happened to west is similar to arsenal moving from highbury to the emirates, as the stadium is quiet and less homely

      it's in the newham borough and yes it's mostly a working/ lower middle class kind of area. only about 28% of that entire area is white, only half of that being british white. and it's mostly occupied by a mix of both but a lot of renters as well.

    • @ishe570
      @ishe570 7 років тому +1

      Thanks for replying, Lord Murphy! From what I hear, part of the Highbury was converted into lofts (flats as you call it across the Atlantic). Did that help the area revitalize the business activity there? They look pretty chic.

    • @garycheshire900
      @garycheshire900 7 років тому +1

      the Highbury development was done reasonably tastefully. The Art - Deco era (1910-1920 era) West and East stands have kept their facade and external features. Both beautiful examples of the period's architecture.
      What used to be the Highbury pitch now serves as a communal gardens area for residents. I haven't been inside, as I'm neither a resident nor know anyone who lives within that complex, but from the outside, and the promotional clips I've seen, the apartments themselves seem ok in terms of size and space. Not nearly worth the prices quoted to your average couple / family buyer though, especially with the North London property market being as laughably inflated as it is.
      Let's put it like this - If I had a pile of money large enough to afford a slice of that block, I'd buy it for my dad, who was a Highbury regular during the playing days for thirty plus years....but not if I had to pay back a bank for the rest of my life to do it! ;-)

    I'm confused, what should West Ham do to "help" the local community they left behind? Should they have to give cash payments to every business that will be damaged by the move? I don't understand what you're advocating for here.

    So they move to the new ground without having a decent plan to help the community they left. I never think that the football club would be this important in microeconomics.

    Interesting video. I'm curious as to why Tifo Football thinks that WHUFC is responsible for community problems when they are simply tenants to a stadium in an area. I don't quite understand the notion that a football club is responsible for the financial support of the local community. WHUFC in my eyes has no responsibility for people obtaining jobs or affordable housing; that's the people's first, then the gov't responsibility.
    I think the area has certainly improved and development has been true (I live in Stratford). I can count 17 contruction cranes outside my window! Great to see East London building up, though I don't understand how WHUFC is directly responsible for people being priced out of their housing. I think the key here is that many people have misunderstood sports clubs and think their existence serves the purpose of community benefit, but in reality they are for-profit entertaiment companies; which isn't really my opinion, that's just fact. Teams command hundreds of millions and sometimes billions in revenues; it's clear what they are. Why the public believes that sport entities (out of all private (mostly) business categories) is responsible for their well-being is beyond me.
    Just my thoughts on this here...

    • @paleobiology
      @paleobiology 4 роки тому +1

      Matthew Burke people don’t cry with joy when most companies do well. Sports clubs are a different animal; people find and create community around other supporters. The history of a club is also a draw, as we see in the “my granddad was a hammer and my dad was a hammer and so am I.”
      The clubs sell people on being more than a private entertainment entity. It is not surprising that fans are upset that others who have supported the club for so long and added to the match day atmosphere have been left out in the cold.
      The club has a right to move, and people have a right to feel less affection for a club that does so.

    the job of a club is to be a business and make a return on investment. community support is simply part of club marketing as an engaged community buys tickets, merchandise, etc. It is in the clubs interest to have wealthier fans who are willing to spend more on theit product and that is the way it should be. Its business.

    I just discovered this channel today, and most of its content seems to be great!! But I don't really like this video... firstly, the costs of 534M pounds seem to include both the construction and the conversion of the stadium. However, the stadium probably would've been build anyway, even if there had not been a football club willing to play in it. So instead of adding the construction costs, it seems more reasonable to only look at the conversion costs and the costs of stewarding, equipment and so on... and then you would have to compare those costs to the costs of the stadium with either no football club or another football club playing in the stadium. Even if this means a loss for the taxpayer, if the loss is smaller than it would've been without West Ham playing in this stadium, it probably still is a good deal.
    A second thing is that, for a football club, being able to sign a good deal and to move to a stadium like an Olympic stadium will generally be a good thing for that club, especially when it means playing in a more modern stadium with more capacity. When I watching this video, I almost fell as if you were trying to present West Ham not as a football club, but as some kind of charity. However, if a football club wants to be successful, especially in a tough league like the English one, the club should not try to pretend to be some kind of communal charity. If it's a good business decision for West Ham to move, then they should move. It'll mean an advantage to some and a disadvantage to other, but that's not something for a football club to consider.
    I almost felt like, with this video, you were trying to force some kind of opinion upon the viewers. And honestly, I don't really enjoy when people are doing something like that, so unfortunately, that has made this video a little less good to watch for me...
