I reached out to Tomei but because I’m over the 1 year warranty, I’d have to pay full price for a midpipe replacement ($500ish). It’s a known issue though. Oh well
Got the Tomei Ti Extreme exhaust on my Evo X and it is flippen awesome! Love it , the quality of the product and the relatively reasonably price is just epic. Great choice. I mean it's loud but I love it.
Holy cow, there's a Subaru shop near me that sells Cobb and Tomei - I went there to buy an Accessport for my GR STi, and I was hoping they also carried the Cobb exhaust (no dice). I told the guy in the shop that I wanted something "really quiet, but with a bit more rumble" and he recommended the Tomei straight pipe titanium thing, which is, bar none, the loudest exhaust I have ever heard on a car - he demonstrated it to me on his FR-S. I suspect he may have hearing damage if he thinks that's a quiet exhaust.
Erik Tomlinson ... Invidia Q300 has always been a nice sounding but not too loud option for vehicles. Great rumble, and only a bit louder then stock at Wide open throttle. OH and no drone.
I think the issue with the mid sized silencer was that fact that it was not fully secured, and every time they rev the engine you can see the silencer popping out. SO this creates that exhaust "leak" whoosh sound, that no one likes to hear.
@sneeky7 well you're in the minority, most people think it sounds good and the header adds power, and since when did it haven't power? It only weighs 2700 pounds and drives amazing, and still does 0 to 60 in the low 6's? That's quick stupid
You just can't do a sound test without the silencer attached with all three bolts. There was a tinny sound from the metal tapping together in the first test. Then with the smaller silencer installed the exhaust just pushes the whole thing out and bypasses it.
Guys you went nuts ... i love it ! ... greetings from Dominican Republic ... haven't finished the video yet cause i had to post a comment right away :D I ... i like the new exhaust system, good find !
How timely! I was at the track (Waterford Hills in Michigan) this past Friday. Got blacked flagged for noise. They said I was WAY over. So I'm looking at possibly adding a silencer. Despite having to short shift and basically coast down the back straight for the entire day, still set a new personal best 1:19.60. Crazy! Not sure I like the idea of a silencer on a 5.0l V8 Porsche 928 motor, but maybe worth a try. Thanks for the sound clips. Now go rip some laps!
Last time I was there an s2k got kicked out, and a new camaro was given a warning and if he wanted to keep driving he had to shift to a higher gear on the back straight. I am going there this sunday.
This sounds a million times better but that muffler is not worth losing the diffiser. While you don't have a full flat floor, that diffuser was still helping a lot more than the muffler is worth. Especially with those diffusers added to the splitter the aero balance could be super off.
It sounded like you guys were considering running one of the silencers for an event, but in the instructions I received for the Tomei Expreme on my STi, it specifically states not to use a silencer for performance driving. Not sure if that'll affect N/A cars the same way, but my understanding is it's too restrictive to be safe for extended high-rpm use. Great install video as always, the car looks and sounds amazing!
lets be honest.. its still raspy af in any silencer or no silencer config... I mean better than the old exhaust, but rasp is definitely not "completely gone"
I was really wanting this on my frs but ultimately went with hks. My cars a street car it doesn’t have to be the lightest also stainless last longer :)
With the silencers it like what dp said it like a stock exhaust with a lot of backpressure that's really restrictive. I thought with frs/brz with unequal length header your valves go back.....
Simple answer is the UEL makes more torque lower in the rev range, EL will make greater peak power. So good options with both depending on driving priorities.
Equal length makes more top end power... Unequal makes better mid range... With the way this engine behaves I would rather have the bump in mid range and try and cure that 4k dip in the power band.
Maybe get a dynotune done before you take to the track with the silencer out. It may sound a bit different after the tune. An tune it on sunoco 94 or shell 91.
Personally run a single exit by NV, honestly for the track I prefer the silencer in there or she screams. Once I drove it for a bit the “tin-ie” sound went away some
Nice. I found wrapping the headers on my old Subaru helped reduce the tinny ticking noise from thinwalled metal. Are you guys going spray coat the wrap to protect it?
I use to own an S2k... I now own a FRS... and I much prefer the newer car that has great aftermarket support on the cheaper side of things. The S2k's aftermarket support is getting a bit pricey for my own personal taste. PLUS I used the S2k for track days and aggressive driving... I feel like beating the FRS to hell and not giving a damn is better then beating the S2k to death. The current owner uses it as a weekend car, and is a bit older, so I know the car will be well cared for.
You guys would have been happier with my setup. Get the Nameless Performance front/over pipe with dual resonators and Magnaflow 200cel racing cat. You'll thank me later... I also have mixed feelings about you guys using that Tomei header... Ace header would have been a lot better.
The differences in hp on headers that are fitted to a car which makes 200-300 hp are marginal. Maybe 3-5hp max and at that point it really doesnt make enough difference for us.
That's fucking naughtyyyyyyy with that first exhaust... wtf dude.... sounds sexy though... bet the fuzz love you rippin the streets. I'm after getting a gt86 soon, looking at mods and upgrades to tune it for a drift set up but also a daily... I can hear my wallet screaming like that exhaust note 🤣🤣
By the way... Cut your rear bumper. You're going to completely screw the aero of your car leaving it on, due to the giant gap the OEM muffler left. It's going to create an air pocket, and will lift the rear of the car. I know you guys have seen my car and know what I'm talking about...
Sounding much better, that particular FRS deserved to go full Tomei! Targa Newfoundland alone earned that, to be honest. Great job fellas!
BIG REVS ~ small penis
I had one on my FRS. It cracked at the resonator. I know it’s happened to multiple people, hopefully you don’t suffer the same fate!
BIG REVS ~ small penis
With how thin the exhaust is and the relatively low-price for a full titanium exhaust, it's not too surprising.
ivebeen For full titanium, this is FAR from expensive. This is what I'd consider a cheap catback to be honest.
Oh man, sorry to hear that. Maybe additional brace or mounts would have prevented the crack? Hopefully Tomei can quickly address the problem.
I reached out to Tomei but because I’m over the 1 year warranty, I’d have to pay full price for a midpipe replacement ($500ish). It’s a known issue though. Oh well
Sounds even better with a turbo 😋 I love my 80r, the clearance is terrible but the sound makes up for it.
Glad to know, because I'm boosted.
Got the Tomei Ti Extreme exhaust on my Evo X and it is flippen awesome! Love it , the quality of the product and the relatively reasonably price is just epic. Great choice. I mean it's loud but I love it.
The S2K might be finished, But the FRS is Build is still going!🙌
I have this cat back on my car, absolutely love it, one of my favorite parts I bought
THAT’S how a Subaru engine should sound. Much better than before
Holy cow, there's a Subaru shop near me that sells Cobb and Tomei - I went there to buy an Accessport for my GR STi, and I was hoping they also carried the Cobb exhaust (no dice). I think the smallest pea shooter sounded better than the medium one. Thanks for another great vid guys!
That thing almost flew off when they started the car, though :D
I think the issue with the mid sized silencer was that fact that it was not fully secured, and every time they rev the engine you can see the silencer popping out. SO this creates that exhaust "leak" whoosh sound, that no one likes to hear.
It was also vibrating making that rattling noise. It’ll probably sound differently if properly secured.
YO IS DAT A TOMEI DAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Beautiful exhaust, And the welds are unbelivible, Nice work Tomei A+
That looks to be an amazing fitting exhaust.
I run a hood exit on my ka-t s13 drift car but going to a regular exhaust have been wondering about what to get.
You cant hide the sound of it with or without the silencer HAHAHAHA I luv it man
I heard this set up at their lapping day. Amazing sound

Oh my God! That sounds so fucking good and rumbly! The fact that the exhaust makes it sound like a uel headers I crazy!

10 lb exhaust and 20 lbs of wrap haha. Nice job guys!
Really? I hope your joking.
Sir Awesome Mcdouglas The wrap for header prob 10lbs alone I just got it lol
With all three silencers installed the exhaust pushes the silencer out so You need all three screws.

Unequal length all day baby! Sounds way better. That equal length sounded good but it sounds like a honda to me.
Tomo from Tomei says “Hi” Peter, he still remembers you.

i guess at least you guys have a racetrack, even if it's ruled by the PTA.
This sounds a million times better but that muffler is not worth losing the diffiser. While you don't have a full flat floor, that diffuser was still helping a lot more than the muffler is worth. Especially with those diffusers added to the splitter the aero balance could be super off.
Can't wait to hear this thing on track
That is quite the upgrade!
that heat wrap stuff is so much easier to wrap when its wet, also you get a tighter wrap
The car looks amazing like a mini Austin Martin Gt
It sounded like you guys were considering running one of the silencers for an event, but in the instructions I received for the Tomei Expreme on my STi, it specifically states not to use a silencer for performance driving. No, we'd never use a silencer for any WOT driving. Thats just asking for trouble.
That sounds so much better it’s crazy. Silencers sound crap throw. Leave them out. That much back pressure can’t be good for power.
You're supposed to soak that exhaust wrap in water so it tightens around it when it dries.
ik this 2 years late but not titanium wrap lol
Great job on video guys
Where did u get that LOUD , FAST, AND REAL sticker? I rlly like it
Love the new sound!!!!
I actually like pea shooter sound with the light backfire
lets be honest.. its still raspy af in any silencer or no silencer config... I mean better than the old exhaust, but rasp is definitely not "completely gone"
Sounds much better
Ive got the same set up but with EL headers instead it can scream for sure
Awesome video. So much better
I was really wanting this on my frs but ultimately went with hks. My cars a street car it doesn’t have to be the lightest also stainless last longer :)
Now let's go rip some hot laps!
Wow, top quality, fitment and price!! Nice!!
Is that a Tomei DAAAWWWG?
Question will you neeed the donut gasket ?
With the silencers it like what dp said it like a stock exhaust with a lot of backpressure that's really restrictive.
I thought with frs/brz with unequal length header your valves go back.....
It doesn't sound shabby at all. I'm planning on going with Dezod for my non track car.
This frs needs a K series
I thought the "Subaru sound" was the sound of less power. Dont those engine make more power with equal length?
Simple answer is the UEL makes more torque lower in the rev range, EL will make greater peak power. So good options with both depending on driving priorities.
Equal length makes more top end power... Unequal makes better mid range... With the way this engine behaves I would rather have the bump in mid range and try and cure that 4k dip in the power band.
They do but people will justify anything for sound.
Wanted to buy the part, clicked on the Tomei page but, I couldn't see the buy option
IMO, if you're going to drive around town the Pea-shooter silencer sounds better than just the 1st level silencer
We thought so too!
Would've been nice if it was v band junctions rather than the traditional flanges, but still nice nonetheless.
Maybe get a dynotune done before you take to the track with the silencer out. It may sound a bit different after the tune. An tune it on sunoco 94 or shell 91.
Soo many shiny parts
IS THAT A TOMEEII DAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Hopefully they make a tomei single exit for the new supra
this video gave me a tickle
Personally run a single exit by NV, honestly for the track I prefer the silencer in there or she screams. Once I drove it for a bit the “tin-ie” sound went away some
would the headers need a tune?
What are people’s thoughts on heat wrap vs ceramic coating?
YO IS THA A TOMEI DAWWGGG
JDL headers up for grabs?
Cheaper to order up two of these exhausts to chop up and piece together for a custom application or go for the vibrant pieces for a custom setup?
Link for the exhaust cover ?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t unequal length headers cause ringland?
12:10 Omg you turned it into a wrx
Was there a an improvement to the torque dip?
Nice. I found wrapping the headers on my old Subaru helped reduce the tinny ticking noise from thinwalled metal.
Are you guys going spray coat the wrap to protect it?
What diffuser is that 😨😨
Great sound too!! Nice!! (no silencer!)
You guys should look into another Canadian company, Lachute Performance builts high end parts for Subaru's
Where do you buy the cover for the other side of the bumper
How much weight does the wrapping add ??
dB reading by chance? I'm from Melbourne and they don't like loud things lol
u did tune or just slap that on ?
bummed you sold the S2000, but your keeping the FRS =(

Yo dawg. What's good with that DWL diffuser??
Guys, thoughts on ceramic coating instead of wrapping?
Why not go with the newest Y pipe from theirs.
How much for the diffuser if you guys dont want it?
How is the song at 6:53 called???
What tune do you guys use?
Aren’t you supposed to Soak the wrap with water so it won’t unwrap when it gets heated.
is this set pass the racr track regulation??? how much dB ?? at 4000rmp
10:36 screw*
We do it the other way around in Beligum: Loud on the street, because cops don't care as much, 95db limits on racetrack...
Isn't ceramic coating better?
Why not ceramic coat the manifold?
when are the hats going to be restocked? :s
