Really loving the idea of night markets (or midnight markets). And that they have charts for them now. Very cool.

In my game, because none of my players went Fixer, I came up with "The Midnight Festival". Every 2 in-game weeks the Fixers(npcs) of Night City get together and choose three of their number to source some goodies for the Mercs and people of Night city. I even wrote some lore and plot hooks. There were food stalls, games, and gun competitions. The Market had Sniper Rifles and gun attachments, high end fashion, and canned foods for sale.
One of the npc Fixer got a Nomad family to raid a Maxtech convoy for the weapons. The other was able to get a bunch of high end clothing that was from last fashion season. And the third got the Voodoo Boys to hack All Foods' system to label some shipments of food as contanimated/spoiled.
While there, my Techie was slinging and repairing gunsfor Six Street, getting in good with the gang. While my Solo played a strength competition, and my Media and Rockerboy was fishing for info.

I appreciate the explanation of the Night-Midnight Market difference. Red Jumpstart mentioned Night Markets and Red Chrome Cargo mentioned a Midnight Market. I thought that change was probably an editing error.

Hey Rob. Just wanted to give you a head's up from my new campaign. Long story short : After some action in Port Aransas {which is a nomad camp in this campaign); team's fixer set up a Night market onboard the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi Bay. The Solo bought himself an AR & the fixer made 1,000 Ebb which was his 5% cut. Felt good to get a NM under our belts! Really was great describing the tents & stalls on the flight deck, deals being done under the anti tox tarpaulins! I haven't posted the % cut idea on Discord or FB but feel free to do so. See what feedback is generated. Adios Mi Amigo

Dreaming Metal by Melissa Scott has a great sequence that could serve as inspiration for a night market. It's a bunch of sand rats in the desert selling gray market robotics and AI units.
Lots of texture for a GM, although the setting's not nearly as dangerous as Night City. A great read overall. Especially if you like Rockerboys!

Hi, I asked myself how a nighmarket works in the gameworld.
So it could be set up by a fixer. But why? Fixers dont store many goods themselfs. So you meet the sellers (or there representives) at the market. Isnt that damaging the whole buisnesmodel of a fixer? I always thought fixers are brokers taking their cut.
So there could be powerfull gangs and organisations setting them up (mafia, triads, etc). Would make sence because I imagin high security here. And I imagin there is some bribe money involved in ereas not under complete control by the organisation running the market. Because if I was a detectice with a cityliszence to enforce law. I would send my army their to confiscate, take herofame, and resell to my allied gangs and teams and customers (or my boss does so), or just give discount prices to the enemys of my enemys.
And another point confusing me: Going on a market buying cyberware from a stranger.... is either brave, or i got a damn pro with me who runs diagnoses on hard and software in the parts. But buying it blind to then go visit a foreign ripperdoc connected to the seller. Thats unbelievable mad except you are a streetkid purchasing your first combatwares. But I cant imagin any already "in-buisness" edgerunners trusting a random doctor to cut them open. The values already installed outplay the new pieces by far most times and there are many guys in the game who have interest in installing cortexbombs, trackers, exploits whatever.
Or do I just dont get the idea?
Ups. You adressed a moment after i commemnted. So I have to fet the new book.... as long as the problems are adressed im happy.

Now, I have a question about the first chart at the 01:10 mark. What is the Market Price column? I mean, of I look at the Cheap Row, what am I buying with that 10eb? Is that the price of a specific trade good? Is that an entrance fee? Is it a multiplier on the price of the specific good?

That's the left column, not the Market Price column. I'll see if I can figure it out when I get my hands on the book.

Hey Rob. When a Fixer organises a Night Market, apart from having groovy items available, do you think they should get a cut of the night's sales? How would you handle this?

@@CybernationUncensored Hey Rob. Mulled over this 'Fixers Cut' idea & i,ve got half the house rules. Ranks 5-6 : 5%, Ranks 7-8 : 10%, Rank 9 : 20% & Rank 10 : 30%. Haven't yet figured on how to determine total sales for the Night market. If these % seem high, then a variety of factors could be applied such as Rival Fixers disrupting the NM, Raids by corps, gangs etc. Just think that the Fixer would get something for organising the NM. Final word is that Fixers are business folk & taking a slice seems natural. Any thoughts would be appreciated from any edge runners out there!

A night market is a time where the organizing fixer can obtain anything, save for exotics only available at midnight markets.
A fixer, at their core, makes money by sourcing items and haggling with people to make a margin of cash on their sales. The extra value gained using the haggling deals they can get goes straight to the fixer's pockets. As the player fixers get to know people, they will most likely get calls about sourcing items, and these purchases all yield a finder's fee for the fixer.
Picture this: in a night market, fixers work with each other to maximize the flow of customers and goods, and all the fixers benefit, since they can sell off more of their goods. It lets the fixers pull from each other's customer bases. Since a night market is composed of multiple fixers, it makes sense that each fixer knows different people and sells different things. Lower rank fixers don't quite have a big enough reach to cover everything, but many work with a crew that can help them source those tougher items. In my campaign, Mr. A secretly works with Rocklin Augmentics to "recycle" cyberware off of the psychos and boostergangers that give cyberware a bad name, and also knows a few techs that specialize in cybertech. Because of this, he comes across some serious high-end cyberware that other buyers take interest in.
      The Glen’s fixer network:
      Mr. A: Cyberware
Cletus “The Cleats” Whitright: Small arms, armor, and explosives
      “BonGahmen”: Mercenaries
      Sok Vannak: Drugs
      Don “Donny” Eustace: Vehicles
Because of this, instead of running a percentage, I simply let a fixer roll a hustle roll and reap its benefits in a single day, in addition to being able to freely source and sell most items. If there is an external reason that their specific niche has an abundance of customers, I will double the eddies earned this way.

Having previously commented on Night Markets and even house ruled on Fixer bonus income, i feel i need to address NM's again. I feel that NM's are a great role playing opportunity but mechanically & economically they make little sense. My previous posts were made before i started running Red; now I have had some time to think it through & a campaign up & running I feel that I can address this with better clarity from play. Firstly, why can a NM only carry 2 types of goods? All this trouble once per month for what could be clothing & electronics? WTF! I get the whole supply issues thing but Fixers can get hold of most items without a NM. The idea that fixers come together to arrange a NM seems strange given that they are competitors. Since when, in business, do competitors help each out to make money? Like I said NM's are a good RP opportunity but if you just want some gear, phone your fixer & they'll get the items.
Has anyone else come to these conclusions or have I really missed something?

    • @CybernationUncensored
      @CybernationUncensored  2 роки тому

ok, few things to address here...
just because a fixer can source some itema, doesn't mean they can source enough bulk quatities of that item to provide to multiple customers at the same time like at a NM.
you see many brands/businesses come together with vending booths at events. Comic cons, Cannabis events, hooror-cons, even concerts have all the bands setting up merch booths etc.
