Not usually talked about is the "mental illness attack." Identical to the intensity of a panic attack without the adrenalin response, ie. racing heart, shortness of breath. Mostly terrifying thoughts, the mental illness attack is the intense and overwhelming fear that one is mentally ill, that the world is a depressing place. And the fear that this realization will become permanent and the thoughts will never go away.
The “elusive” goodbye of it is exactly how it happened to me too. There’s an amazing scene in What About Bob- where he’s staying at Richard Dreyfus’s house 😅 and he wakes up to go sailing with the daughter. He’s happy and excited to go. As he’s getting gathering his things in the bedroom to leave, he stumbles upon the “crutch” tissue he would use to cope. He looks at it realizing he has lost interest in what had been scaring him.
Thank you for this, I recently discovered Claire Weeks and found her approach really helpful, particularly where she says to not fear a future panic attack or avoid triggers, but instead consider them an opportunity to practice the techniques. That alone takes away some of the "fearing the fear" for me.
I enjoyed this alot. I have been using Claires method for over a year, Got are over a dozen symptoms, some of which where Super terrible. JUST one symptom left, its tiny and yet very persistent, i am doing my best to accept it and letting time pass.... lol.... Thank you for this Pod cast. Anxiety is such a silly Trickster!!
Yes. .. acceptance is the key . It is very hard . But when you do not do bow to 2nd fear you re on your way to recovery . Also I appreciate your short podcasts and your soft voice and your professionalism . Thank you !
Yes, we also have so much more energy and resources to handle the things life throws at us when we don't spend it all on the 2nd fear. I so appreciate your kind words. Thank you for being here 🌺
You are just the sweetest! your beautiful, soothing voice I appreciate too! I'm on my first few days of this method and it's changed my life!! it works. I pray that everyone finds this way of healing. God bless everyone♥️♥️
Love your channel and I love the late Dr Weeks she has been so helpful. When she said “Sensitize “ I felt like she had a spotlight on me. I was so over sensitize and I had a hard time accepting my anxiety. Oh, and facing my anxiety was so difficult. “ Dead duck” love it. Lol.
Mustang ! Thanks for listening :) Yes we need Panic to be a Dead Duck! I have found Claire Weekes either speaks to you or she doesn't and I think she nails it 💯
Thankyou so much for this! I love Claire weekes and she helped me years ago, now, finding myself in a setback again I've found myself turning to her work yet again... this podcast has been amazing to listen to as you've helped to really break it down as sometimes when I'm most anxious I find it hard to follow things fully. So glad I found your channel! Blessing from the UK 🇬🇧💜
Sarah I am so glad you enjoyed this episode :) I only wish I had known about Claire back when I was deep down the wormhole! Thank you so much for being a part of the ACP listening family 🌊❤🌊 from the UK!!!!!!

Thank you so much for this amazing podcast, I want to ask, when should grounding techniques and deep breathing be used ? During floating ? Or does using them count as fighting the anxiety?
Depends on the situation and the person :) This is a big topic! Using them CAN count as fighting or it can count as letting go -it's all in the attitude. Are you pushing to make the anxious feelings all go away or are you accepting what is and letting it pass as you relax physically (floating.) Thanks for being a part of the listening family 🌊❤🌊
Have Bipolar type 1 and terrible anxiety, on a heavy dose of Meds, don't know if I'm coming or going, it's been a dreadful and frightening three yrs trying to navigate, my head is humming all day, ruminations, worry, feelings of doom, what ifs, I do get some breaks and try and practice relaxation and mindfulness, but I'm very confused, feels like my brain is damaged, I move around very slowly, moods like a roller-coaster from hell. Any tips please x
working with the breath is a place we can begin to interrupt the cycle of fear and anxiety. Try starting with episode 957. You can change and find your way out!
Here are the episodes from the Claire Weekes series that will explain further. 1020 and 1021 are on FLOAT, 1046 and 1047 are on LETTING TIME PASS. Thanks for asking it's a great question 🙏🏻
What about the anxiety about surgery / anesthesia? Especially those moments in OR given gas mask to count back. That second ; knowing you are letting go? Any tips ?🙏🏻😢
Practice ahead of time, and when you are in the OR remind yourself that you are in good hands and this is all part of the process. It is a natural fear to have a mask placed over your face, so of course, you will have a bit of a reaction. You can keep it all to a dull roar if you have your stress reduction tools sharpened and remind yourself you are not only OK but in good hands! You got this!!!

Being calm is the best way to let the fog pass!
