    If you make a move like the Jamaican, you better be Van Neikerk or you're gonna fade in the home stretch, Merritt knew that.

      I agree with you in a way but don't on others... The 4th Leg jamcian ran the fastest 400m split in that relay by some margin 43.52. 2nd fastest was Martyn Rooney from the UK with 43.97. So Javon Francis actually put them into the race for third place. Howeve maybe if he had paced himself better he could have ran quicker and secured the bronze.

      Last leg from Jamaica went all out to gamble, he knows well the team will lose if maintain his pace and do nothing till last 100m. Going to lose in a bigger gap, I suppose.

    Let's Go USA!!!
    The way that Francis of Jamaica went out like he was running the 200m was priceless. I never seen anything like that in my life except for kids not knowing how to pace themselves. I couldn't stop laughing how he breezed passed all 4 runners that was in front of him and to see TTO (Cedeno) look a round like what the Hell🤣. Then I seen he did the same thing in the same position 2 years before and held it so I see now. Made my night!!!

    • @drtslim
      @drtslim 2 роки тому

      It certainly was impressive; but in this case it was ill-advised. When he did it in 2013, the runners that he passed weren't as strong as Merritt and Cedenio. Had he closed and saved a little more for the final straightaway, I think that he could've at least taken the Silver.

      Francis got the baton a good distance behind TT and USA, and he was behind Belgium and GB.....he crossed the line before Belgium by a considerable margin and basically tied with GB..he had a good run, it just looks horrible because he went all guns blazing and never had any left in the tank...his split was sub 44

    • @SmallAxeMP
      @SmallAxeMP 4 роки тому +7

      @@dk1070 if you understand track and field then you would see the logic of what I am saying. He had not to only do extra to put them back in contention of a medal but back in the race. Now if he almost medal from coming all the way behind if he had gotten a bit better effort from his team mates why wouldn't he probably win the race? You also forget to use the finishing to judge the race in which 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th times are not so far from each other.

    • @dk1070
      @dk1070 4 роки тому +1

      Small Axe Music Productions ...I see the logic in what you said and yes, his lap split was faster than all final legs, but I feel like his race strategy, more specifically, cost him a higher final spot. Just based on the trend that he was fading at the end of his 400, while others were accelerating. Of course if his teammates would’ve ran faster, he wouldn’t have had to make up so much space and win. The same could’ve been said about all the other teams though. For example...if GB’s other legs would have been faster, Rooney would have won gold. I think my only issue with the statement (though yours was logical) is that overall, he started in 5th and finished in 4th. It seems a stretch to say anything about gold when he couldn’t even hold on for the bronze. Not to take away from his ability at all, but more so his strategy. I just hate to see a country lose a podium spot in the last meter.

    • @SmallAxeMP
      @SmallAxeMP 4 роки тому

      @@carlgould3097 see that's what I am talking about. Now just imagine if he had gotten a yard less. I think he in order for the US to win that race it would have to be a faster race and definitely the Jamaicans would have medal.

    In the 4x400m relay, do all runners run the same distance? I’ve heard that the second runner runs a longer distance from the rest of them. For example, if the second runner is in the 6th lane, he has to run around the curve in the 6th lane before he can cut into the 1st lane. So does he run a longer distance or is it the same?

    • @FabThePenMan
      @FabThePenMan 2 роки тому +1

      I believe the 1st leg runners actually run the longest stretch, as they do continue for about another 10/15 metres to exchange the baton in the handover space/box.

    That last leg guy from Jamaica made an amateur move. He should know how to run a 400m race if he made it to world champs. Jamaica had the race, he should’ve kept up when he caught up and then gave all that energy for the last 80m or so of the race, but he made a big time rookie mistake.
