@@souventudubannedsays who? We were ST before. ST defines the identity of a certain minority group which meiteis are compared to mainland India. ST also doesn't mean backward classes. If meitei can't be ST in Manipur then why mizos are ST in Mizoram. They majority, politically powerful, advanced.

The Manipur Kingdom was an ancient independent kingdom. The early history of Manipur The location of the Kangla Fort on the banks of the Imphal River where King Pakhangba built his first palace. The present fort was built in 1632 by king Khagemba.
Kuki tribes living in Manipur came from the Burma (Myanmar) as refugees and were later granted ST (Scheduled Tribe) quota in India in 1968.
As there is no border fencing between India and Mayanmar a large number of Kuki people came to Manipur and Mizoram as Refugees. Now kukis are dominating Manipur and Meitei people became Minority. In Manipur, Meitei or any non-tribal person cannot buy land in the hill districts where tribals, Kukis and Nagas, live. But Kukis and Nagas are free to buy land in the Imphal valey, or anywhere else in the state, where most of the Meiteis live. Although Meiteis comprise 42 percent of Manipur's population, they hold only 10 percent of the land in the state. On the other hand, Kukis and Nagas, who comprise 48 percent of the population, occupy 90 percent of the land.
Every Indian kingdoms were ancient and independent. Doesn't mean this gets as the argument in every discussion.

Sir im an ex army bt we fleed from home now we r settling in delhi coz some weeks before some 20_30 kuki mob cme to our village crossing the buffer zone made by para military forces ,thy burn down our houses nearby and gve us warning nd went bck with no fear.. Drones use to fly above us to see our movements by kuki militants bt non of our AR personnel stopped them.. To end the video, Govt. of India must create Separate Administration for the Kukis to resolve the issues.

Hey bisbo, i am an old subscriber of yours. For this analysis, i must say you have done below par as you see the kukis that influx in large numbers have exceeded all other tribal ethnic groups and want a separate administration or state called Kukiland that comprises of the 90% of the state's total area. As mentioned they arent indigenous to this state and it is a huge claim over all protected and reserve forest areas too. The census 2021 wasnt done so the numbers will be scary if done as to their population growth. The meitei so called majority hindus are now minorities and have only OBC benefits while the kukis have taken up all the ST quota and no other small tribes cant get the reservation benefits. If you look up the IPS, IAS officers mostly are kukis , and they guide the ignorant people into hatred, the kuki MLAs are backed by militants and there is no democracy at the time of election as all are forced at gun point in the hills ( speak to minority tribes) and the militants under suspension of operation roam around freely with weapons and carry out all the illegal activities. Police and central forces cant do anything in the hills. The assam rifles who guard the indo myanmar border are together in the poppy business. Please do your research thoroughly again and point me out if its the kuki or meitei who is being suppressed...

Because, Tamil is in Southern India(as Tamilnadu) whereas Manipur is in northwest. Also,in 1995 it was a clash between Daliths and Devar caste people and it has nothing to do with tribals.

There were more than 20,000 tamils in Moreh town before the riot in Manipur. Most of them have left due to ransom demand (ranges from ₹30,000 to ₹10 lakh) by Kuki militants to fund their propaganda. In other words, Moreh has been ethnically cleansed by the Kukis.

Thank you for the well explanation of this complex unwanted crisis. My request to to everyone is to understand the core issues like: 1) dirty evil politics by BJP (not Modi, other powerful members) promising KUKI millitant groups like KNO, UKLF, KNA etc for kukiland if they help them win the election 2) Drug business and poppy plantation and even involvement of ministers 3) ST demand by Metei to save themselves from becoming minority in their own land. 4) illegal kuki migrants from Myanmar and joining armed groups like KNO and also drug business (not all kuki are illegal, some are native people which we stayed together happily for years. But suddenly those new immigrants who don't have any love for the state is now trying to break the state and claim a big portion theirs.
All these issues are correlated and gets converted to communal hatred where so many innocent lives are lost but the actual evil behind are the vote hungry dity leaders and drug lords backed by millitants

Army, being neutral stops meiteis from carrying out attacks in kuki villages. If I'm not mistaken, there was an incident where indian army found out that meiteis were attacking kukis (again) and killed many meiteis. In simple way, Manipur violence started due to unequal apportunity between hill and valley under the leadership of CM Biren Singh. As well as valley meitei started grabbing hill tribal land through demanding ST status which is impossible.

The Meitei Militants killed our Colonel and his family members including his wife and young son. What a brutal act committed by the Meiteis! The accusation of the Kukis cultivating poppy was also a game played by the Meiteis where the mastermind and the culprit belongs to the valley based Meiteis MLA who brainwashed some Kuki farmers so that the black money can be used in the election. CM of Manipur is also involved according to Ex Police Officer Brinda Meiteie. So there's no way the Meiteis and the Kukis living together again. The wounds are so much and the pain and hatred among the community is so deep. The only solution is seperate administration for the Kukis or at least Greater Mizoram which was a signatory between Late Indira Gandhi and Laldenga MNF leader.

We can see the large scale discrimination of tribes by the majority state government in terms of accusation of being illegals immigrant overnight, taking away of lands (to accommodate for their ‘radical’ meitei militants fleeing Burma), High court order which SC clarified had no jurisdiction in giving that order, etc.

Meitei insurgency started in the 40s bro, even today there are still some meitei outfits who want a separate Manipur country. I even saw a meitei local leader openly giving a speech about 'leaving the Indian union' in the local news.

It has been very sad to witness the violence. As a viewer I would suggest abolition of all reservations as this will bring all into a single platform. Secondly strong military bases should be formed to ward off mischief mongers. Finally focus should be made on education of children as this would enlighten the upcoming generation.
As a kuki, I can only say that I'm regretful and apologise for any wrongdoings my community has done. We need meitei people to acknowledge the same and admit to their wrongdoings. We both need to give each other concessions to make this work. For example, Yes to meiteis buying land in hills. But also, constitutional protection for the hill districts so that despite the impending demographic change, Kuki constituencies will always remain with Kuki mlas and candidates.
This is the bare minimum which can be done. Meiteis have an issue with LAND for the purpose of settling and living. So, it should not touch the MLA positions of the kukis.
If both sides can agree to that, I assure you this war will end.

Yes you are right, Col Viplav was assassinated by a Meitei insurgency group. We have not implied that he was killed by Kuki groups. Just that it was a turning point. Also the case of Thounaojam Brinda, ‘Lady Singham’ was motivated by Meitei interests.

@bisbo you mentioned that the Kukis first arrived during the 1830s, i would like to know your source. I'm a Kuki and I can trace my history way earlier than 1800s in present day Manipur. And I'm surprised that you didn't learn Mizos and Kukis are of same ethnic group on your research.
There were always some Kuki but probably larger scale migration happened during that period

I can give you many sources but you will have a conflicting view of cynicism regarding their ethnicity and so on. So, I wouldn't know anyone better than professor Dal Dena, he is a renowned historian he completed his PhD under professor Bipan Chandra, he is also from the kuki zo community from Mizo. You will find some of this work quite promising.

after some years we lost indipendent we are under British rulled 76 year, we got again indipendent on 14 August 1947 , after 2 year of Indipendent India goverment forcely Marge to India on 21 september 1949 we lost again our Indipendent. After 1949 in the name of Indian democracy so many refugee kuki and another tribel Zhou, mate, guite,simte, thadou, Baitey, khongsai, Hoakip ect this tribe are crossed border and so many thousand of entering to Manipur around 1980 this tribel looter are increasing popoulation.
