Negative space is The bare skin becuse you don't have ink there (minus ink/Negative space) I think it looks so cool when they use negative space against heavy black work. What is your opinion on blackout and blast over tattoos?
To me, getting tattoos over my scars is a way to hold myself accountable. When I feel like relapsing or something like that, I know that me giving in would also mean completely ruining a beautiful piece of art on my body. It helps me see that it's not worth it sometimes

Martjna same for me. Since I got my tattoo I’ve never cut myself again. I don’t wanna ruin such a beautiful tattoo. And in my opinion tattoos look better without scars under (also spares you awkward moments when family asks to see your tattoo, mental health isn’t really a thing I talk about with my family. I don’t mind telling my closest friends about it tho)
@@denitsar3802 I absolutely get it! Also I feel the same about sharing this kind of thing with family, but "luckily" for me they mostly don't like tattoos, so they'll never ask to see mine very closely😂

Recently got a large section of scarring covered up with a nice floral piece.. I will never forget the first time someone said "I like your tattoo" rather than "omg what TF have you done to your arm?"
Absolutely. Same here. Never been ashamed for my scars, but getting asked what they are is so personal, i think is in some way disrespectful. Why do people think i want to tell it to totaly strangers? 😐
Now, with my a tattoo, they aren't visible anymore and I'm a lot more confident

It all depends on the scars honestly. I don't know what your are like but if they're anything like the ones in this video, you definitely can! :)
Also, look around at multiple artists. Scars can be difficult to work with since it’s not like normal skin. There are some artist that are uncomfortable or not experienced enough to cover scars nicely. I was turned away from a few different artists for this reason which I appreciate. But I did find one that specializes in scar coverups and I ended up with a gorgeous tattoo! You can hardly see my scar unless you’re looking closely.
Definitely find an experienced artist but there's a good chance you can! Whether they'll be completely covered or the tattoo will just distract the eye depends on the kind of scar and tattoo, but I have a friend who had some pretty extensive self-harm scars on their leg and now they have a very pretty anatomical heart with roses growing out of it.
I found an artist in my area that specializes in self harm cover ups and I was sooo excited to get an appointment with her! I cried at my consultation because it felt like such a big deal lol 😅 my first tattoo appointment is in November and I’m so excited!
i have a scar on my right hand that's from when i was like 4 years old
i want lots of tattoos, but i don't to cover that scar up because i used it to differentiate right from left so it's a cute memory
Lovely Hart- As a young child I had a brain injury that paralyzed my left side, so I’ve never had trouble differentiating my left from my right. This explanation always makes my best friend laugh! 🙃

I also have a scar on my left hand and I still use it to difference left and right. I have it becourse I broke my arm when I was 9, I'm 18 now

Just want to say something to people who feel bad about their self harm scars and/or ashamed.. If some of you will ever see this message:
Please don’t feel bad/ashamed about having those. What’s done is done, that’s a part of you now. That’s your journey and what you felt will help you at the time. It doesn’t make you any less of a good, strong and beautiful person.
I have scars of my own, they’re very big, very dark even tho very old and after they healed I never were hiding them. I never cared if people will look at me differently seeing them, good person won’t judge. Why would you beat yourself up about someone not being that great of a person? Why you have to struggle hiding it for people like this? The best thing you can do for yourself is try start living in peace with it, understand that it doesn’t make you ugly, it doesn’t make you not strong. Ure just a person with a story and different textured skin in some places. Understand it and let it go. Then if you want to cover it for esthetics- go ahead, but never do it for someone. Do it for yourself.
I think they are not even a sign of beeing weak, it's about beeing strong enough to find the will to live and find a way to deal with pain.
I have words on me, and people (for some goddamn reason 😡) will always read them or ask what they say, and I don't ever see myself being in a place where that won't make me just viscerally uncomfortable. I have no problems with the ones that don't spell anything though. They definitely don't make me feel ugly, thats for sure (I have huge stretch marks too and have no interest in covering them up).
Does anyone know a forum or something where I can post pics of my scars or something and I can get ideas for designs? Maybe a subreddit? Because I'm nervous about having to take my pants off in front of the artist (they are on my thighs) and it might make me feel better if I know what I want first??? I guess. Or does anyone know what would be good for hiding letters? I think want an old-school style portrait.
Unpopular opinion: I don’t want to cover my self harm scars. They remind me how far I’ve come.

I'm going to get mine covered but I'm also not ashamed of them. I think they still will be visible because some where pretty deep cuts and the tattoo is going to have space in between because I choose a cherry blossom branch 💖

I covered up my scars two weeks ago w/ a piece from my favorite artist (Anne Stokes fantasy art)... totally worth it! I finally feel like I’ve closed a very unwanted chapter of my life when I no longer see the scars.
It'd be kind of cool to see comparisons of people's first tattoo vs. most recent tattoo. I think those like myself with quite a few tattoos, or perhaps time between them, would've made better decisions or a change in taste. If that makes sense..

I like the shark one especially bc when I'm asked "What are these scars from?" even though it's quite obvious that they are from self harm, I always tell them "In my free time I like to fight with sharks"
There was one time I remember having to wear a wrap around bandage to cover my scars (I had a band performance). People would see the bandage, which granted, it did look pretty dramatic, for lack of a better word. They would come up to me and say "Oh my God, what happened to your arm?!" And I would respond with "I fought a tiger". If they persisted, I said "Fine, I'll admit it.... The tiger fought me."
Most got the message. I made up an excuse to leave for those who didn't.

I've always wanted tattoos, and I have a lot of self-harm scars on my left arm and leg. I regret harming myself (It's been almost five years since I last did it) but I don't regret the scars because I honestly like how they look aesthetically. I'm thinking of just tattooing my right arm and leg and keeping my left side for the scars. Albeit I'm only 19 now and might really want to cover those scars when I'm older.

Your react to tattoo videos are fun because we get to see body art in many forms around the world and what different people are doing and why. Tattoos are becoming more and more accepted here in the US but there is still a lot of stigma associated with it -and the way tattooed women especially are perceived. There were some really beautiful designs again here! That knee, I would so love to see that leg sleeve finished, it's beautiful! Also, the negative space v tattoo over the burn scar looked so cool, the texture of the scar really works with the style of the tattoo as well as the tattoo looking amazing by itself

I think it would be cool to see tattoos that are sentimental eg tattoos for people who have passed away or something because you can get so much meaning and variety
I wish I could cover my self harm scars but even 6 years later for some of them there still not healed enough to tattoo over. I've been recommended to get laser resurfacing on them to get them to a point where they can be tattooed over but its a long saving process as its quite expensive but hopefully sometime in 2020/2021 ill be able to get them covered. all of the tattoos in this video are lovely and im so happy for those people who are able to cover there scars with beautiful art work

I've never self-harmed myself, but I do have lots of scars as well. :/ I have a scar from an injury above my knee, acne scars on both arms,upper back and chest, scars when I accidentally cut myself while shaving mostly located on lower legs, then I also have a scarf when I accidentally touched an iron for a second. My body works really weird, but I get visible scars from everything, lol. Some of them are tattooed over and it definitely looks way better.
the scars on the first tattoo looks like shooting stars in the night sky... so beautiful and a beautiful way to turn a traumatic experience into something to look at and feel proud of and overcoming those times 💕 (and of course the same for all of the other tattoos aswell) 💕

Thank you for posting this video. I have scars of my own I’d like to cover up, self harm from several years ago, and a work accident over year ago that left me fairly large burn scars around my lower legs. While I have seen cuts get covered I haven’t seen burn scars get covered, and to me they feel different, course that could just be because my chemical burns happened recently and I’ll probably have to wait anyways to cover those, but I’m glad to know it is possible! Thank you again

The Earl Grey tattoo shows bergamot in the hat band. Bergamot is what gives the tea its perfume.

I got a snake tattoo over some of my thigh scars. I have tons of scars on my arm but I’m not a super big fan of tattoos on myself. So I don’t know what I’ll do about those but I love the idea of turning pain into art

When i was about 10 or younger i slipped and fell with my mouth on the stairs.My mouth fell exactly on the90° angle.The only thing i remember from then(14 or more than that years ago) is that my mouth had a lot blood.It might have probably messed my teeth a bit because my front teeth are crooked.I am glad i dont remember any of it because i couldnt eat for a week anything apart from things like yogurt and rice
Sanna Artelius covered up some scars on my wrist last summer, it was my first ever tattoo of my dogs paw! You can still see some scars if you look closely. This has helped me a lot 1. I couldn't self harm on that wrist for 6 months and 2. now I don't want to ruin the tattoo! I'm in no way "healed" yet, but this has really helped me. My last tattoo that Sanna did was under my boobs, where I also had some scars (but were not really visible), so now again I don't want to ruin the art
I have a scar that's on my left knee that i got from mowing...long story short my left knee felt warm....it was a hot summer well...i didn't know it was touching the exhaust until it let out steam and burned my knee now it's a perfect circle and looks like a slice of pepperoni.

I find these videos so interesting and really like them.
I don't have any scars, but I have another skin "condition" called keratosis pilaris which covers my upper arms and upper legs.
I really want tattoos on these areas but I have been wondering how tattoos would look like on skin like mine.
It would be nice to see a video about that, but I don't know if that would be possible since I also don't know how common this condition is.
It might be difficult to find submissions for a video like that. 🙁
Keratosis Polaris is an extremely common skin condition. Most people in the world have it. I have it on my upper arms as well as all over my legs and butt. I have only two tattoos, both small, but I’m planning to get larger ones. I don’t think KP will be large factor in getting tattoos
Make sure to consult with your artist about it :)
I have 2 freckles side by side that are fairly bigger and darker then the rest of my freckles so I used them as eyes in my Kilroy tattoo...if any of you remember the old "Kilroy was here" cartoon guy.
Yes, I know that is a simple silly thing to have tattooed :) I also have a Shel Silverstein cartoon (the candle from where the sidewalk ends). I absolutely LOVE my simple, easy to read, nothing but linework yet totally complete tattoos. ;) They both have deep meaning with childhood memories connected to them.
