  • Thanks to Dave at Fenland Airfield for letting me learn the art of tailwheel flying in his Chipmunk.
I had an awesome couple of days and completed the course in 3:15.
This video shows both the wheeler and three-pointer landing techniques, as well as a glide approach.
Shame I didn’t have my GoPro for the rest of the training!

There are two types of tailwheel pilot - those who have ground looped a tail dragger and those who are going to.🙂

Probably not. After many years of tailwheel flying with plenty of take-offs and landings, never looked like ground-looping, Aerobatic aircraft, glider towing, skydive ops. Now retired, so unlikely to happen. Ground loops I've seen have ALL been preceded by lots of rudder waggling;; a sure sign of a pilot not in control. If you have trouble with tailwheel aircraft, you really need to go back to basics, because it means your general flying is not as good as it should (and could) be.
