I just found my great great grandfathers shaving mug today in a box of dishes from my great grandmother. Something told me that I should keep it and I decided to do a little bit of research. I’m so glad I did!
I have used a 1918 Atlas shaving mug ( with a Hudson Double Ender Locomotive on it) with a soap cake by Williams or Colgate since 1993 and use my fathers 1958 D1 thin saftey razor by Gillette. Blades have 2 sides and when it gets dull just flip it over till that's dull then replace for a few cents.

So glad you kept it. Great piece of family history!

Awesome! It's neat to use something that old.
I use a shaving scuttle myself. Nowadays they are not really needed. As hot water comes from the tap as well. But I enjoy it.
I use my scuttle once in awhile, mainly bowl lather. Only shave with vintage Gillette razors. Used my 1918 open comb this morning.
I wish I could find someone to fire bake me a personal mug like a vintage mug!
Maybe you can find an antique mug with your initials.
City Farmhouse Antiques I always have my eye out for one. That’s like looking for a needle in a haystack
