I'm a relative newbie to fly tying. Hans provides a clear, informative description of the examples that he ties. Viewed many. Saw using produce bags a a material in some videos. Who'd had thunk it? Will definitively try it. For other newbies Davey McPhail also is a great resource.

      Hi Pierre,
The tool is simply a dubbing needle with the tip bent. Works a little easier than a straight needle for the purpose, allowing the tip to come in perpendicular to the flattened thread, with the handle at a more comfortable angle for the tier.
      Cheers,
      Hans W

prachtige vlieg Hans, dat idee van tandemvissen spreekt me erg aan. Ik vis meestal met nimfjes, twee of drie. Dit idee is ook leuk om droog te zoeken.

Your content is great. Your flies suit my taste perfectly. Wish you were still actively tying. Do you still enjoy fishing? You are a superb tyer!

May I ask why you stopped making videos? You have such a straightforwardly beautiful style of tying.

      W D,
My apologies for the very tardy reply - I only just now picked up on it
Thanks for asking, and your kind words
I moved to some other interests which occupy my spare time, but am considering adding a few more videos maybe this winter
      No promises 😎
      Cheers,
      Hans

I have a ;ling for the beauty of flies, and this one is wonderful. Its obviously practical and pretty easy to tie. A split thread is beyond me though. :-(

      Terry,
Paul Slaney has come up with some fine patterns, is an awesome tier and flyfisherman
On split thread technique - well worth mastering
Did you look at the dedicated technique video I added to my channel?
      Cheers,
      Hans

@@HansWeilenmann Thanks. I'll have to try harder with my magnifier-and try to flatten the thread. I love the effect, like a dubbing loop. But other than that, I can get by with some careful dubbing and nice spiky fur.

Skillful tying and beautiful photographs on all patterns. A shame to put these flies where the fish can get at them.

Hans, if you dont have zlon can you substitute polyproplyene?

    • @HansWeilenmann
      @HansWeilenmann  10 років тому +1

      Hi Pete,
Reasonably coarse polypro should work just fine as a substitute.
      Cheers.
