I have been to that exact gas station on the way to Vegas from Laughlin. It's a super tiny town, probably volunteers also. And you always stay up wind to avoid the smoke.
The Station that rig came from is a Vol. station. If you look them up they have a terrible ISO rating. At least they showed up and gave it the old ONE TWO. Can you imagine what it will be like if everything is battery cars? What a disaster that would have been. The whole block would have burned down...
I'd guess a big factor in their rating is lack of viable water sources in the desert, unless town had hydrants. Been through before but didn't pay attention
Exposures? IMO, not much, being 20 feet away and gasoline powered cars only burn for so long. They got it knocked down in about 5 minutes. Being an experienced firefighter, I could have posted much criticism, but I chose not to, because I understand that the majority of areas of the country cannot afford to hire firefighters to cover 24/7, so they rely upon volunteers. So the choice comes down to volunteers of lessor training/ availability; or no firefighters at all. I will take the former. In this case, it looks like at least 2 people showed up with water, hose and pump- then extinguished the fire. I commend them for their willingness and efforts. 😁
What's with the garden hose, you need an 11/2 hose with copious amount of water to properly put out the fire. I understand if you have newer members in the department and they are not trained on an engine yet. They also need to be wearing turn out gear.
That just being a brush engine, most likely it doesn't have a 1 1/2" pre-connected..... that would have sucked down there 250 gallon ( give or take) real quick. Looked kinda sad, low pressure etc, BUT they stayed out of the smoke with no PPE, and no exposures got involved, so 👍🍺 to the guys for making what they had work.
Well this was in a very real part of the county somebody else in the comment section said that this might have been a citizen volunteers that they have.
It is the Clark County Fire Department, but once you get outside of the heavily populated areas (ie: the Las Vegas Strip which are served by career fire personnel) the remaining areas are served by volunteers.
Hola acá en mi País Chile el servicio de Bomberos es totalmente voluntario. Veo una falta de capacitación, veo que el Bombero esta de civil sin su equipo de protección personal. Un abrazo a los hermanos Norteamericanos desde chile.
they likely had several extinguishers inside the casino and could have suppressed that fire quite a bit in the beginning stages, if it were still contained to one area... most people aren't thinking clearly like that while they watch 5 ft flames shoot out of their car tho.
Hey there! Awesome video! We were wondering if you would allow us to use it on our social media pages with credit? We are a channel who focuses on emergency scenes and your video would be perfect!
No ppe, no adequate line control or pressure, not enough distance between unit and burning vehicle, just to name a few things, lots of room for improvement here.....
Those to guy's obviously have no clue what there doing? What is that truck parked so close with having a booster line with at least 150'. Could have fought it from a safer distance till more help arrived. That apparatus is still from a FIRE DEPARTMENT and not a Forest Service unit. They lack training.
Looks like volunteers! Not sure who is handling the hose but maybe they were unable to handle the power of the hose once charged. Would need more information before critiquing.
And here we have another battery powered car that goes up in flames 🔥 that’s extremely hard to extinguish. In 1/2 hour this car puts more toxic smoke into the air from burning than a gasoline ⛽️ powered car puts into the air in 10 years. I’m just saying, if you research it you might be surprised at what it actually is.
Ohhhh you’re so cute. Try again and this time look close at the back of the car, it has dual exhaust , battery cars don’t have exhaust pipes. Just because you hear all kinds of negative stuff about battery cars doesn’t mean it’s all true. Disclaimer I don’t own a battery vehicle.
Intresting to see Cal Nev Ari on location. Their station is about ten miles away from searchlight. Looks like Searchlight VFD could not get out due to no manpower. Shame, their station is only a few blocks away.
Pathetic! This is Clark county? Supposed to be an elite fire department! Someone needs to be held accountable! No gear, desperately pulling hose out the Back when it’s clearly a side reel, no water pressure. Terrible position with the engine. Come on guys. If you don’t know how to do something don’t do it. You can get yourself killed or worse someone else!
I try not to be so critical of any first responding professional, the car was a goner anyway and why expend resources on it, they are doing a good job!!!!!
I just wanted to stay out of their way. The police were blocking the nearby entrance left of frame. I was just looking for a Big Mac, but pulled out my phone and started recording as I approached. The McDonald's workers were taking shelter across the street. They seemed to be returning as I drove down the street to Denny's.
At least they didn't park next to the fuel pumps, I suppose. I didn't see any driver on the scene, and I beat the police there. The police were just managing traffic.

There is a reason...probably availability. See...we figured it out.
