My uncle had a titanium wedding band with a 90degree edge and threw me into a swimming pool when I was 12, I still have the scar on my back from where it scraped all of the skin off 😅
I've always been led to believe that shattering is tungsten's big selling point for people who work with their hands a lot. Because if they get caught in machinery or something, the ring will shatter before causing real damage to your finger.
Sorry no. This isn’t true at all and please do not ever operate machinery with a tungsten ring. It will take your finger off/deglove your finger before it shatters. It is way harder than your finger is.
My husband is a firefighter, so our wedding bands are made of rubber due to the high melting point and because of how easily it will break apart if it gets caught on anything. It's not pretty, but it's practical.

Only small scratches, not a single dent (if you’re wondering, my dads a mechanic and my mum works with woodwork)
Tungsten Carbide rings CAN be resized but it's not easy. You put it in the chuck of a lathe and you use a diamond tip cutter and make about a hundred passes 1/10,000 of an inch at a time. You will probably have to change your diamond cutter more than once. You can use emery cloth to sand down the inside bu I totally agree about the 90 degree angle. Flat 90 edge can also fuck up your steering wheel if you let the wheel slide through your hand. The ring will ca-ca-ca-catch and make little marks\cuts each catch. Dont ask me, ask the techs who change my tires.
My husband has a tungston ring that he loves but he does worry about the cutting issue. A few years ago he had a ladder fall back and when he went to catch it it dislocated his ring finger. Apparently, (i have heard this story too many times 😬🤮) his finger was laying across the top of his and and twisted toward his fingers. The first thing he did was yank it back into place and pull off his ring. Thankfully he did because his finger was 3 times its normal size for several weeks. And no, of course he didnt have it checked out, of even tell me until he left work several hours later.
My husband proposed with a tungsten ring I liked that was two sizes wider than my finger (we went to a jewelry store before this to get our ring sizes and the band he bought with it was his size). He thought I could just "grow into it", but I have a fast metabolism that runs in my family and there is no guarantee that I will gain weight as I grow older. It's been 2 years and sometimes when I look at it, it makes me sad knowing that I cannot wear my ring without a need to buy a $3 multi ring fitter set that only has 1 that is the correct size to fit the ring or to wear it around my neck...😔
I'd be terrified if a ring had to be shattered off my finger
Haha it is scary indeed so something to keep in mind when choosing ring material, as it can cut you when it shatters 😅
Imagine your finger is already fucked up, like broken or macerated, and they have to apply MORE pressure on said finger trying to shatter the ring. 😟

My husband and I are both not great ring wearers so we got really thin rounded bands (they’re only 1.8 mm wide ☺️)
Tungeten carbide isbcood for construction. The ring will break in an accident, prenting the ring from cutting off circulation
Would you say that tantal has the same problem like tungsten or is tantal okay for a ring?
Watching this, taking notes, while being single 😅
Flat 90 edge can also fuck up your steering wheel if you let the wheel slide through your hand. The ring will ca-ca-ca-catch and make little marks\cuts each catch. Dont ask me, ask the techs who change my tires.
Please do more men’s stuff!!! I’m a gay man getting married in the summer, so we are really wading through it.
congrats man! wish you two all the best
Idk if you go to a local jeweler who you know does a good job you can definitely get the pattern matched up
Serious question, what is a wedding band and how is it different from a ring
said need rounded..
proceeded to show same 90° inside.. flat edge is ok if inside is slightly rounded
Do you have an opinion on rubber rings?
