    I'm Filipina married to a Japanese guy and it was a huge shocker to me at first when he told me my crooked teeth made me look cute/attractive even though I was dying to pay for dental work to straighten it. Since he liked my crooked teeth, I didn't push through getting braces to straighten my teeth. Plus I noticed it's my natural double eyelids that made him attracted to me from the first time we met even though my eyes are considered just typical for Filipina.

      I pointed this out to him a few years ago and gave him tips on his style which I think he actually implemented. For example, I told him to wear his hair less sleek and more ruffled because it suited him more (which he now does), I told him to stop wearing white because it makes him look ill and to instead wear ivory or cream (which he now does), told him to ditch the glasses because it covers up his good bone structure, and told him to focus on colours like navy instead of black. It's good to see him focussing on what looks good on him instead of following what the general style is for Japanese men. He's a good-looking guy and it's a shame that he was called ugly just because he didn't know how to style himself properly.

      Yes, facial symmetry is subconsciously perceived as being indicative of good genes.

    • @credman
      @credman 3 роки тому +14

      There's ugly people with symmetrical faces (Danny Devito) and models with asymmetrical faces (Shannen Doherty). It's proximity to the perfect mean face that defines beauty, symmetry is just one of many factors that result in a face that's closer to the golden mean. (The face that you get by averaging all faces together.)

    • @svenhaheim
      @svenhaheim 3 роки тому +6

      @@credman Danny devito is an old short fat man, suggest you check out pictures of him when he was young. Shannon was a sex symbol when she was young... even Brad Pitt is going to end up less attractive if he gets old enough.

    • @commentarytalk1446
      @commentarytalk1446 3 роки тому +1

      @@credman Symmetry and various other factors all interplay: In Men testosterone levels indicate strong brow and chin and thus are masculine and attractive WITH symmetry. in Women Oestrogen and collagen and proportions of curves indicate good hormone balances thus high fertility. In BOTH cases the indications are good immune system AND good nervous system. These are all positive towards sexual attractiveness and beauty. However mental interaction and behaviour are very important too - but excluding those and only commenting on physical.
      There is some cultural attribution to tastes eg attractiveness of breast size and many many other features can varying simply due to culture and locality tastes that establish. Again smell (body odour) is "surprising" important because it is associated with immune system compatibility.
      The mean of human faces is a statistic it's not descriptive of the above thus it's misleading to say the average mean of faces is the pinnacle or some such of beauty standards.
      Back to Japan: I think the women do an amazing job of demonstrating feminine beauty via feminine behaviour and strong beauty aesthetics in their dressing without necessarily having high levels of the above association of physical ostroegen creating curves and fertility indications eg they tend to have narrower hips for one example. So it really goes to show how flexible the subject is. Though atst: Tall, Salary, Status it shows similarities too across human groups (racial groups).

    • @lemons2300
      @lemons2300 3 роки тому +9

      @@credman It seems many people are mistaking the general idea of asymmetrical face with what would draw closer to a facial deformity. Many celebrities have naturally uneven eyelids, and uneven styling to give it a more dynamic feel to a person.
      To me, those with perfectly Photoshop-like symmetrical faces often appear as they have no soul, or something.

Some cultures are very clear cut when it comes to beauty and attraction but Japanese people I've met, mostly tourists or JASDF on base, have varied opinions. Edit: Just got to 3:43 and this explains a lot of my personal experience. Japanese women young and old would often gather around me at work to take photos, if they were bold enough to do so. Been to Japan 3 times and everytime was an eye opener when it came to interactions with people. I used to be bigger than my current picture and most interactions where just stares or the off comment of me being big or macho which I didn't mind but I certainly didn't feel big. Then there's been the negative comments people made when they thought I didn't understand any Japanese. Things like being compared to a gorilla while at the zoo or people saying things like why would I want to look like this, Or them thinking I probably got mad easy, short tempered or being afraid I'd put hands on a woman. Anyways the good outweighed the bad and I'll be back after covid. Guess I'm the complete opposite of what Japanese girls find attractive 😆. Thanks for reading my rant, have a good day ✌

    Being childish and immature isn't exactly a negative trait in the USA for some guys. Younger girls who are childish and immature are more sought after than say more mature/older women due to being easily manipulated or easier to work with than the more 'mature' women who are stereotyped as being stubborn, hard to work with, set in their ways, 'used up,' closer to menopause, high maintenance, or harder to get a family with because they are older. It's a stupid mentality but it goes to show that Japan isn't that much different than the USA when it comes to some base values.

      But most women, for the most part, are not immature after 19-21.
      you are talking about hebophiles, or whatever they are called. Men who want teenagers.
      Japanese men want "child-like " women because they are retiring and somewhat effeminate.
      America has macho culture by comparison, so the women are womanly and the men more manly.
