for anyone wondering why actresses are so shocked ... well, it's because it was the first time ever the prize was also officially awarded to two of the actress. IT'S A BIG DEAL.
Never seen a french movie before this one, after watching this one....the story just touched me and went so deep in my heart that it has acquired a special corner in my heart,no doubt the extreme best romantic story of all times.... Wish for Adele and Lea all the milestones..and lastly i guess i am bit late anyways congratulations Adele on being a happy mother..tc
the movie deserves to win as it was brilliantly made. it astonishly depicted human emotions so realisticallly and leaves one emphatizing with the main characters the movie takes the audience to their world feeling their feelings of love and of love lost.
My mother tongue is german but I've learned french for 8 years in school. Sadly it's a very hard language and I can barely understand french people.... It's dedicated as well to another youth for an extraordinary performance which occurred not long ago: The Tunisian Revolution. For their pursuit of living freely, for expressing themselves freely and loving freely. Thank you." Adèle: "Good evening. Thank you very much Jury from Cannes.

Because the actresses were there, also receiving the Palm. That alone is a stunning recognition of their achievement. Traditionally, you thank those not on stage who assisted in the production, either directly or indirectly.

Steven Spielberg made an exception for the actresses because he thought that their performances were so good they deserved it. Plus he knows that they got no shot at any Oscars because the academy opposes strong sexuality in films so he was like, "fuck it, ill give it to them too"

How does awarding someone with palme d'or works? I thought this award was reserved only for directors?
