Now I know there is WOL but my router wouldn't allow it so had to find another way. So I got a smart plug that I can operate from anywhere, set up the bios so when power is restored after a power loss the PC powers on. Now all I have to do is turn the smart plug off then on and the PC starts and once windows loads I can use teamviewer to control it.

Kyle, if you are planning on doing benchmarking with this you should know that most modern Remote Access packages are lightweight on CPU by using GPU hardware acceleration (as a matter of fact I tried a very alpha, and unfortunately dead, Opens Source Project one that almost entirely runs on Nvidia graphics cards and could be configured to use a deadicated one so you could, given the bandwidth theoretically game over it) so that might skew your benchmark results considerably.
Another alternative I used when Teamviewer cut me off for uses they said were approved (tech support for parents, managing a remote private gaming server which they personally told me was approved) I went looking for alternatives and the only reasonably priced one that also has a free tier I found was RemotePC. I started using it so much I paid for it, and it was no $1200 dollars a year either.
AweSun has a better mobile UI though and I really like a rewards system to unlock the premium features. Thanks for the suggestion... I will have to check it out.

    Troubleshooting/Light Use: TeamViewer
Gaming/Productivity: Parsec or Steam Remote Play.
AweSun doesn't really seem to cover either use case perfectly, and like most free software that does sponsorship deals, I fear we might be the product.
With TeamViewer, I can set up all of the computers and phones I'll ever need to troubleshoot or work with remotely under one account, and accessing them is as simple as clicking the connect button, have the person on the other end confirm if they need to, and I'm off to the races.
TeamViewer also has a very useful contacts system, where I can drop devices into folders, rather than having to just scroll through several by name. I have a "Grandparents" folder where I have my grandparents' phones and laptop, I have a "me" folder where I have the long list of my own devices, and I have a few other folders for various people in my old high school and on the internet that I've done remote support for over the years. It also supports remote phone similarly to AweSun or other software like AirMirror.
It's been such a reliable piece of software, that if I ever do use it on a for-profit or commercial level, I'd gladly pay for a subscription.
Then there's Parsec. Parsec has some issues dealing with things like running before login, and the ability to see and accept things like UAC prompts, but it's an incredibly solid tool for more intense streaming situations like remote video or gaming.
Steam Remote Play/Steam Link works even better in the same fieldas Parsec. But its usability, I've noticed, is consistently limited by the fact that it pushes heavily towards using Big Picture mode to navigate and play games, and desktop use, once you get to it, isn't as convenient; making it not as easy to play non-steam titles.
That's my developed opinion from using several remote desktop applications over the last several years consistently, and only settling on those three as they were the most consistently usable/viable for the intended use cases.

Hi, word of caution for you guys and nothing against Kyle. But I wouldn't trust Awesun or its parent company Aweray Holdings Limited. The company is extremely new and is based of of Hong Kong. This means the government of China has direct access to your data. And considering the software is closed source there is no telling all the data they collect.

A Chinese company wants me to install Awesun for tech support, so they can reflash my VR headset's firmware remotely - to bring it back alive. How can I have confidence that China can't/won't be just hoovering up the contents of my workstation (which I use for a lot more than just gaming) while doing the work they said they'll do? I've used TeamViewer with my father, but we're obviously both known/trusted users in the same not-China country, so I understand the concepts of remote access - can I firewall my PC somehow? Thanks!

Come on Bitwit, you're missing the MOST IMPORTANT feature: Can it show the Windows UAC Prompt when an application requests administrator rights and allow interaction with an application that runs as administrator? Because when i do remote support i nearly always need to install some software or do other things which need administrator rights. I had many clients with Teamviewer and Google Remotedesktop where this doesn't work and then i need to phone with the person on the client and tell them where to click. So far i only found AnyDesk which supports this even without installing the client, and it's also free.
