He was Ole Miss LB coach for a few years until Indiana wanted him to come home and be HC.....Good Coach and a Good man.....he will be liked wherever he goes.
That speed option play where the guy was too deep is bc he was trying to cover for the corners (I think it was 5) who were getting absolutely run by Tre Harris. Kiffin found the soft corner and kept going after him.
- It’s a little easy to say opt out alone hurt us. On offense, there were receiver problems all year. We went away from the run and didn’t target the receivers until the 4th quarter. Outstanding break down. Do u think giving up inside leverage is a result of Diaz’s design or a mistake by the CBs? Again, why focus on opts out on defense when it’s on my part of the game. if you score against an average defense, the game might have been different……
You can't blame their defensive struggles on opt outs. Look around the country PSU had less opt outs then almost every school. They had 3 to 4 guys out we had 3-4 guys out PSU was just out matched ole miss could've scored 50 on them but lane called the dogs off. Can't just blitz the whole defense every play and expect your corners no matter who they are to win every rep one on one against elite wr's. The last time tre Harris was left one on one he went for over 200 yds 😂. He's one of the best 50/50 ball guys in the country
Penn State was down 6 starters just on defense with an additional 2 defensemen playing limited snaps. There were 3 full opt outs on defense (2 NFL 1st/2nd rounders and an NFL late rounder) that didn't play a single snap, 2 partial opt outs (an NFL 1st rounder and an NFL 3rd/4th rounder) that played very few snaps in the 1st half and then sat the entire 2nd half, Abdul Carter (a huge impact LB) got injured in the 1st half and sat the 2nd half, and then you had the 2 starting DTs play limited snaps. Ole Miss was effectively playing against Penn State's 2nd string defense without their defensive coordinator lol. It was not even close to the same defense that played in the regular season. There were an additional 4 starters missing on offense (3 projected NFL draft picks and an injured player), but that of course wasn't Penn State's biggest problem on offense. I looked into it, and it looks like Ole Miss was only down 2 starters for the game: Cedric Johnson (NFL opt out) on defense and Micah Pattus (Inj) on offense. It sounds like you're either just making stuff up or you're comparing some of your depth players being out to our starters / NFL early draft picks being out. Anyway actually, yeah you can blame a lot of PSU's defensive struggles on opt outs.
@@taylorbrock4635 no Jordan Watkins our wr2 who has 800 yds on the season played like 3 snaps he had a sleeve on his leg don't know what was up w him but he essentially didn't play and then our rb2 didn't play in the second half at all he probably got injured in the first half. @@lifeislikeaboxofchocolates5383 There were players that sat out the entire 2nd half but at the same time only took very limited snaps in the 1st half. @@taylorbrock4635 ole Miss was still scoring w the "partial opts" in the game they made no difference. Ole Miss could've easily made this game 45-17 but started running clock and playing prevent defense halfway through the 4th if u want to say ole miss doesn't score 38 then that's fair but PSU's offense was horrendous and I guarantee Lane scores more than 17 ole miss wins either way if both teams are full strength. @@taylorbrock4635 and on top of that the guy that replaced our top edge rusher/ best defensive player was a guy who was deemed ineligible all season and had taken 0 snaps on this team
You’re forgetting the offense is complete trash so, the defense had to play the entire game. Maybe the opt out players would’ve kept the game from getting away from them as early but it was eventually going to happen. PSU was losing that game regardless of opt outs.

Riiiiiight..... Opt outs are the reason you lost. Opt outs are the reason Ole Miss put up 500 on you. Opt outs are the reason you couldn't score enough points. Sorry. You got beat handily by a better team.
Having 6 players missing on defense (including 3 NFL projected 1st/2nd rounders, a projected 3rd rounder, and a projected late rounder), believe it or not, makes a pretty big difference. Dvon Ellies (DT - Limited Snaps)
Zane Durant (DT - Limited Snaps)
Here's a link to the snap counts of each player: 247sports.com/college/penn-state/longformarticle/penn-state-snap-counts-ole-miss-peach-bowl-224296764/
You'll notice, for example, that Theo Johnson only took 12 snaps and Adisa Isaac only took 20 snaps.
We had a true freshman wr that got a starting role and did his job
@@taylorbrock4635 and on top of that the guy that replaced our top edge rusher/ best defensive player was a guy who was deemed ineligible all season and had taken 0 snaps on this team
I blame the opt outs. We were a completely different team. I hate them.
You’re forgetting the offense is complete trash so, the defense had to play the entire game. Maybe the opt out players would’ve kept the game from getting away from them as early but it was eventually going to happen. PSU was losing that game regardless of opt outs.
@@skipsterz nah. 4 of our best players opted out 8 of them total didn't play much. Without the opt outs we would have won hands down.
@@averagebloke4474do you honestly not feel ridiculous saying 'we would have won hands down' when you lost so badly? obviously the game would have looked differently, but it wasn't even competitive (for long, anyway). i get coping to a degree - you have every right to - but wild assertions about 'hands down, *would* have' is.. well, just that, wild. lol.
Ole Miss football had 6 starting opt outs as well its all about coaching and teaching team chemistry 🧪 stop complaining we whooped y'all ass period
Riiiiiight..... Opt outs are the reason you lost. Opt outs are the reason Ole Miss put up 500 on you. Opt outs are the reason you couldn't score enough points. Sorry. You got beat handily by a better team.
They have the most awesome defense in the nation 😂
Agreed. Also not having their offensive and defensive coordinators didn’t help
Having 6 players missing on defense (including 3 NFL projected 1st/2nd rounders, a projected 3rd rounder, and a projected late rounder), believe it or not, makes a pretty big difference. Ole Miss was effectively playing against Penn State's 2nd string defense and without their defensive coordinator. There were an additional 3 opt outs on offense, but no that was not the reason they couldn't put enough points on the board - certainly didn't help though.
Also, can we please stop putting freaking DEs in coverage?
James Franklin, the worst big game coach ever.
These Funerals are payback for Sandusky and Blind Joe
Your picking on penn state 3rd stringers alot
Pick on those penn stste guys that screw their fans every year fir being so special they just let their team lose to chumps
Yall sho did lose to those chumps, take the L and move on to losing to the bottom of the SEC next year, maybe Vandy will get a bowl game next year for yall to lose to;)
@@juniorcarney16 Hey, Ole Miss played pretty well against Penn State's 2nd string defense. Congrats.
I miss the days when Joepa would routinely smash the SEC in bowl games.....minus Bama
