I like the part where Erika says "yo, if you just told Ange that you wanted her to live instead of being all passive aggressive with the Halloween Party maybe you would have convinced her"
It's interesting how much different the scene with Erika and Battler differ in the manga. It's a friendly clash here, while in the manga Erika ends up solving game 6's mystery.
Those two close room, they are so outside the box. I mean, closed room with extra long chain and closed room without ceiling? Battler and Erika are either crazy, or awesome genius, or both! And heck, Beato closed room is just equally crazy!
"Yo I heard about this diary that can be used as the primary source." "Really? Can I have it?" "Well I have the lead on that diary, but I'm not going to tell you because you'd claim ownership on that book." "Then why haven't you taken it yourself already?" "I'm not an Ushiromiya so they won't let me have it." "Please tell me the lead and let me take it. I'll give anything to you. Even the diary." "Okay. Then I want full copyright on your name, and the content of the diary, after you read the diary. That way I can be the official author of the Golden Land novel with the most credible primary source." "Deal." "Really? Even though every current and future public perception about you and your family's past will rest in my hand, being the most credible source of the Rokkenjima incident?" "I don't care. I plan to die after reading the diary anyway." "Good."
Eh Erika solving episode 5 and 6 doesn't mean much when she had all the time in the world to think about it. The games had a clear time limit, the 00:00 of the second day.
Eh, not really, time was frozen whenever Beato and Battler where having their logic battles, I think she even stated that he took almost 20 years to think on an counterattack on Ep 2.
I VASTLY prefer manga version where Erika solves the mystery in front of a desperate Battler who tried to sacrifice Beatrice to protect his beloved sister.
"sign, Ange. It's true that living without so much as knowing the truth is awful (probably an understatement). But is knowing the truth will bring you loved ones back? They are gone, whether they are watching or not, you are alive and able to find a new connection, new family, new happiness. Why would you do that?" is what I would love to ask her
everyone grieves differently. they shouldn't be forced into feeling what they dont. I know this is fiction but irl this is not how you help people in her situation
I see several comments in different videos about someone saying that they didn't really like Battler. I have to say that, I didn't really like Ange. When she was first introduced, I thought that she was kind of cool, but as time went on, I found her annoying. Especially in this Episode where she just straight-up ruined everything.
+ShadowT0nberry Well, I thought that Chiru itself was terrible when I read it. The fact that they introduced Erika (an annoying character), the fact that Ange got more "screen-time" (which killed her character for me), the fact that Battler stopped searching for the mystery behind the incident of the island, and the fact that the whole series moved from "good mystery" to "wannabe Twilight Romance" killed it for me. So, yeah. It's not just Ange that ruined it.
Battler stopped searching because he figured out the mystery at the end of Episode 5. And the romance isn't really the focus of the story, either; Umineko is mostly focused on exploring the characters and their feelings/motivations/etc (the "heart"), with the other stuff (the mystery, Ange's story, Battler/Beatrice's romance, etc) being used as a framing device towards accomplishing that goal. The point isn't just to solve the mystery (and all the goats stuff in episode 8 is basically used to mock that sort of reader).
BenkaiDebussy I'm sure that the "question arc" was supposed to "try to solve the mystery using the diferent scenarios as TIPs", so I felt annoyed when they did that "goat thing" because it was a huge middle finger to the reader (fuck the solution, have a romantic scene between Beatrice and Battler) . Only the first part of Umineko showed the "heart thing" you mentioned for Eva, Ange and Rosa, (and Maria to an extent), as far as I'm concerned. Chiru, however, gave us a whole episode dedicated for Kinzo and Beatrice, a romantic battle for Yasu, an episode that explained Shannon's feelings for Battler, and etc.
The goat's are insulting people who didn't try to solve the mystery, or only half bothered with it. If you can't see that then I honestly don't know what's wrong with you.
PictoShark No, I don't know what's wrong with you. We must have read different visual novels. Only the last goat which Will couldn't defeat was the one you are calling "people who don't want to solve it/are half bothered with it". The rest of the goats started talking about Eva's and Battler's families "being the killers" theories, which I really found insulting as a reader who was supposed to try to solve the mystery. But, according to another user in a forum, Rykushi never wanted to make it insulting and admits that he screwed up in an interview by not fleshing out that particular scene. Nevertheless, I'm not eating up whatever excuse he has for it.
Who else disliked Battler as a main character? In ep 2, he was completely bitch-made. In Ep 3, he almost fell for Beatrice's obvious trap just bc she went soft and moe on him. In Ep 4 he finally won. In Ep 5, he beat Erika by complete bullshit deus ex machina. In ep 6, same thing. In ep 8, beat Bernkastel by complete bullshit plot armor deus ex. Like wtf. Bernkastel shoulda been the main char again instead of having someone new as the MC.
Agreed with some. But ep5 is hardly DEM. Battler used proper reasoning to counter Erika's. (Although Erika crushed it in ep8 manga) The way he comes back is too convenient, yes. But dead in Meta-world is when you stop thinking. When Battler understand everything he start thinking of alternative method, thus can come back from "death" ep2: you can hardly blame him. Everything is favor the witch and hardly a fair game, such as red truth. Without blue truth to counter it's really hard to fight Beato. It would be DEM if he can win in ep2. But his whining is pathetic and really hard to watch though. ep3: Completely agreed ep6: Logic error in my opinion is simply big fat trap to lure Erika in and revived chick-Beato. Battler got answer in his head but simply leave it to Beato. I mean if it's logic error, then why the "love duel" can continue? GM is screwed, so why the game continue? Answer? GM troll you! ep8: Agreed.
linda cicada I just liked him in 4 and 5, when it seemed that he was really trying to solve the mysteries behind the murders...then he just kinda gave up on that, after figuring Beatrice identity (without telling the audience). I suppose that's the reason I started liking Erika more than him. She may be a bitch, but at least she was trying to solve everything and give us answers, not lazing around for more than 2 episodes and talking repeatedly about love (again and again). In the end, even Ryukishi regretted giving priority to the magic vs. trick approach halfway the novel and not giving us the answers (changed it from making a proper mystery novel), that's probably the reason behind the changes in the Ep. 08 manga (solutions in Battler vs. Erika and Yasu's confession).
Sorry but only Battler vs Bernkastel was plot armor/ DEM both the other battles were valid (even though in EP 5 he managed to come up with a theory that still wasn't the truth)
"Your closed room had no ceiling"
Yup, this was written by Battler.
This might be my favorite youtube comment of all time.

I was absolutely jubilant when Erika came back and had that short, awesome confrontation with Battler. That was so cool.
I see there's a few Goats in the comments.

So sad that Ange didn't had the chance to use that outfit more
Aside from the awesome dazzling red & blue truth battles, this scene is just so sad ;__;

@21:56: that typo of 'them' tho.
Beato's closed room is more orthodox. Battler's and Erika's were just so over the top, I liked their fight better in the manga.
@ULTIMATE GOKU Erika solves the entirety of the 5th and 6th game, as well as revealing the culprit
@ULTIMATE GOKU Get wrecked by Erika hahaha He is about to die and then I don't remember who saves him.
@ULTIMATE GOKU It depends on what you're going for. It definitely has more tension.
