I just got a MBP with M1 Pro 10 core, 32 gb ram and 1 tb. I was going to get the M1 Max but the difference was only the graphics card, which i dont need as i only do music production and not video editing. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, the main reason to get the Max is if you need a lot of graphics core and video codec or if you need 64GB ram. CPU wise, it’s just the same 10 core than the M1 Pro.
For MIDI controllers and interfaces, you can get USB-C to USB-B/mini/micro and just replace the cable outright so you only need to carry the cable, not a cable+dongle.
Been waiting for your opinion and review as a music producer about the new MacBook Pro. I order myself the 16 inch 32gb ram 1tb ssd and m1 pro the other day, and from what youre saying this will be enough for me to produce music on, so im happy I made the right choice. I didnt go with the pro max chip because the battery time get affected ALOT and you dont really need better grapics anyway if going for music production. Saved myself 585 dollars on that. Again ty for your inputs on this bro highly appreciated!!! :)
Dude. Love your vids. I feel ya on the ports. I absolutely hate dongles. It’s just another thing to keep track of. What I ended up doing for my 2017 MBP was getting a usb-c printer cable, which has the usb b end on it. I rarely have to use a dongle, and they’re cheap. I think I spent $8 per cable.
I ordered usb-b to usb-c chroma cables that are optimized for audio to connect my maschine mkIII, komplete midi controller and my mpc one and they work great! Less hassle than using dongles and hubs imo. Great video as always Bolo 💪🏽
Very good review. I just purchased a 2012 refurbished from Best Buy for 400 then I bright a new 1T SSD, 16 gigs of ram and turned the optical driver into a T2 external hard drive. I'm still running an old OS but the power is still good.
This is true, so it's not a major inconvenience, but it would have been great if they had included just one regular port like Bolo said. Hate carrying dongles personally. One good thing though is most devices now have a USB C native cable you can purchase for them (Midi keyboards / interfaces)
Thanks for the review. Ive been wanting to hear from musicians on these. Im still going to wait until they come out with a mini using these chips which probably means another 6 months or so. I was looking at the 14 inch machines but the more powerful GPU versions might be better for me, I also do graphic design so thats still important to me. I occasionally use after effects too but dont know how well it even works on these machines. Adobe has always been terrible at optimizing. Im actually rocking a 2009 5’1 mac pro tower. Lol. So my machine is ancient BUT i upgraded everything last year. SSD drives 32 gigs of ram and faster CPU so it’s sufficient and MUCH faster than it was . I would like to get a few more tracks without the CPU screaming though.
Great video! I got the 2499 14 inch models and 16 GB of RAM wasn't enough and Logic would overload with a lot of 3rd party plugins, so I'm returning it. I decided to just go hard get the Max chip, and 64 GB!
If you seen the logic benchmarks (sourcefrom Music Prod. and Max Tech), regardless of 16GB or 32GB of RAM on the unbinned M1 Pro both had the same limit for amount of tracks which I think was around 150-180. Even so if RAM is overused it will go into swap using storage. This is the first time we can confidently say that 16GB will actually be fine for 90% of people. Apple is changing the way we think of normal computer components today. I was hesitant on planning for 32GB RAM but I may actually go with 16 with a extra storage bump. It's just so pressuring to want to spend more and not regret it haha.
I think actually on M1 it isn't called RAM (Unified Memory, which mean it would have further function than RAM). It is used VRAM, DRAM and especially Rosetta spends much RAM). So I just think 32GB is worth for some cases need alot of Rosetta and editing.
@@deannguyen1910 True, in some cases it would help but it seems to be the better the CPU, the better that Logic will work under it. While RAM definitely does matter, after 16GB it seems to be more a shift towards CPU power handling. 32GB seems like a waste but 64GB with the M1 Max will benefit hugely down the line in the future. M1 with 16GB can handle like 80 to 90 tracks but M1 Pro with 16GB can handle 120 to around 180 maximum.
true. the new M1 and M1 Pro/Max are superior processors, meaning RAM isn't needed like in some Windows setups Apple's operating system is superior and makes better use of what it has, hence it not needing high RAM

I'd be interested to know if this computer (and whichever interface you're using) can handle those heavy instrument tasks you had set up in the other vid, but @96k and a low buffer (64 or 128) - simply as a test of of the cpu. Thx for the vids!
To be honest, there is no need to record and 96K since most audio was going to be rendered to 41k 16bit or MP3 or AAC. I’ve actually talk to software developers about that and they told me that unless you have a system that is worth thousands of dollars you won’t be able to hear those higher resolution rates
@@BoloDaProducer Oh, I agree - I typically record @ 48k for screen. However, I was wondering, if at 96k (or higher :D ) with complex instruments whether the computer had 'enough realtime jam' to seamlessly play in a live situation, due to latency being shortened.
Hey man, great vid as always! I’m looking to getting a similar model for home and travel. Although I’m familiar with logic (ish) I want to learn more and create music hence the purchase. Could you please recommend a good audio interface to use as currently using my Allen and health mixer but I can record individual tracks together. Any help would be great and keep up the great content :)
😕Brodie, will you please show us what the MacBook can do at 192k and 96k sample rate instead of the basic 44khz. 192k gets us the best quality and lifelike reverbs and EQs. Thank you sir!
Why??? You not going to hear any difference. I know ppl say it’s all about the headroom but in all actuality Unless you are using a playback system like that you’re not gonna hear a single thing. Why, because everything is still render down to MP3 or CD-quality
@@BoloDaProducer not true my friend. I’ve been in audio for many many years and have owned some of the best converters and clocks on the market and yes, you can hear the difference at higher clock speeds. I’m surprised you’ve never tried it. It may not matter if you’re making beats but when you get into sound design, transferring vinyl to digital and recording live instruments (I.e. woodwinds strings etc) your conversion makes a difference. Try it, take your microphone and record at 44khz then record a vocal at 192 then zoom in and look at the wave form...it’s pretty obvious looking at it as well as hearing it.
@@bigdap100 you are right. And funny enough when you compress to mp3 or cd quality the final result still sound better than the directly 44khz record. I can hear the difference too. It’s better to try and make the comparison instead of just arguing. It is definitely different.
@@BoloDaProducer now I don’t recommend this for making Beats, only for those who are paid to squeeze the most quality out of a recording...I used to have a Pro Audio store so I’ve used it all from Behringer and Focusrite to DPA and Prism Sound.
I'm planning to upgrade my 2012 15" Macbook Pro to one of these but my question is what audio interface is best for 1 guitar 1 bass with 2 headphone out ???
SSL 2+ has two inputs and two headphone outs with separate volume controls. Or just get a cheap headphone amp like the Mackie HM4 with four headphone outs and it can go with any interface.
Shalom! Man I came from a 2020 M1 13 MBP to the 2023 M2 Pro 14inch and my M1 was still fast but not on this M2 Pro Level I love the Promotion 120 display 💯 the New HDMI 2.1” for 8K monitors and Wi-Fi 6E Apple did it with their new Models Desktop Power in a Laptop Format. 👊🏽
How has the battery been on the 14”? Been trying to decide between the 16 and 14 and wanna know how long you can go while producing on battery with the 14”
i went to check the 14 and 16 today. 16 screen bigger yeah, but 14 feels like its defo enuff. Also nice money save and easier to that thing around at the sofa or bed, where i pretty much always use my book.
I’m running fairly large sessions (almost every session is around 100+ tracks). In my current MacBook I have to try so many times to get the session played properly. (Even after freezing some tracks) so I would really like someone’s opinion on this.
Yo I ordered the m1 pro 16ram 2tb, you think it will be enough good for music production? I couldn’t afford the 32 ram and I hope that I will make it out!
I have the 16" 2019 intel 8 core version 2.4Ghz with 64GB of Ram haha..200 tracks , no problem - ALL my plugins actually work. Can't believe only 50% of the plugin makers are willing to change over to true Silicon support. But the headphone out, bigger size and thickness, ... I WANT IT!!! And your 2012 was a 15.4" ;) Also there are worlds between a 2012 and 2016, then worlds between the 2016 and 2019.
Your sample rate at 64ms? I need something to record low latency for my vocals n all my plugins aswell as automation clips but nothing crazy but my current laptop crackles after like 6 - 8 plugins
Being honest I think its really wrong for manufacturers shipping USB-A in 2021. That's one of the reason why Apple doesn't mess with the USB Association because they keep allowing this crazy standards that shows the association doesn't have their ish together.
"Just cut that thing on off..." Lol.. Words of truth and wisdom. To grow in business you often need to spend more money to make more money.

Could you please recommend a good audio interface to use as currently using my Allen and health mixer but I can record individual tracks together. Any help would be great and keep up the great content :)
Hey bro I don’t make music but listen to a ton of music and like a screen that shows the EQ bouncing as I listen. What app would you recommend?
Get that g14. That’s crazy af
@@jaovao yes and your reverbs and EQs and even your distortion plugs have a new life to them.
Keep doing your thing Stillmanite! Amazing review!
Thanks!
There is a great usb-c 3.1 dongle with 3 usb-a ports and ethernet adapter for about $15 at Amazon.
Great review I’m holding out to see if Mac mini gets the M1 pro cpu before I pull trigger on this laptop.
Wow that’s great. I was aiming at the 16inch Maxed out. But maybe 4TB. But protools 2021 is not even compatible yet. I hope the MPXC will work.
Great . Question bro ! What plugins -Vst didnt Work?..
Bolo!!!🔥🔥
Are you able to use your Roland fantom with the zenology plug-in with the m1 ?
won me over with "cut that thing off!" thanks for the great video - and the laughs!
Do a 192 96 test as high end systems play back make a difference.
Just because you told people to hit that thumbs down, I'm gonna give you a thumbs up.
What vsts does it not let you use? I"m thinking about crossing over from pc.
I'm planning to upgrade my 2012 15" Macbook Pro to one of these but my question is what audio interface is best for 1 guitar 1 bass with 2 headphone out ???
It depends on your price point
SSL 2+ has two inputs and two headphone outs with separate volume controls. Or just get a cheap headphone amp like the Mackie HM4 with four headphone outs and it can go with any interface.
I still got my 2012 13’ MBP but I’m gone hold out one more year just to make it a full ten 😂
I am also getting the 14". But I am sticking to the M1 Pro because I simply don't need extra GPU power.
This is great! Awesome review!
Thanks!
Love your channel😊
Thanks
How has the battery been on the 14”? Been trying to decide between the 16 and 14 and wanna know how long you can go while producing on battery with the 14”
i went to check the 14 and 16 today. 16 screen bigger yeah, but 14 feels like its defo enuff. Also nice money save and easier to that thing around at the sofa or bed, where i pretty much always use my book.
You speaking Twi bruh, but I will catch up and I appreciate your knowledge and delivery. Thank you!
I’m running fairly large sessions (almost every session is around 100+ tracks). In my current MacBook I have to try so many times to get the session played properly. (Even after freezing some tracks) so I would really like someone’s opinion on this.
Great review!!
Hey Bolo did you ever hear the fan?
Yo I ordered the m1 pro 16ram 2tb, you think it will be enough good for music production? I couldn’t afford the 32 ram and I hope that I will make it out!
You should be fine
Is 500GB enough for a music program? (music program) Thank you.
Thanks for sharing
@@reallnikka123 48Khz...but 96KHz is even faster 2.4ms latency!
Yo Bolo Man!!!
can i connect it to an apollo twin x using a thunderbolt 3.0 cable ?
Thanks!!!
Being honest I think its really wrong for manufacturers shipping USB-A in 2021. That's one of the reason why Apple doesn't mess with the USB Association because they keep allowing this crazy standards that shows the association doesn't have their ish together.
You are right 💪🏾
Great video!
Are you using Rosetta at all? If you do how was it? Thanks bro another great video
Yes ever works well
Just when I was beginning to think the 14 inch MacBook with the Pro chip might be enough. Seriously, isn’t that one enough?
Glad you comparing from macbook pro 2012 my 16 inch came in and im stoked g but i noticed my apollo isnt supported smh
Yeah you gotta upgrade
