- Grace Jones Live at the Palladium on New Years Eve with Deee-Lite. Filmed and edited by Janet Speier and David Wallace Crotty. It was New Years Eve at The Palladium in New York City in 1991 This video clip was taken in the dressing room. Grace Jones' amazing costume was designed by David Spada -who is wearing the polka-dot shirt. Miss Grace Jones, Lady Kier, and DJ Dmitri (of Deee-Lite) ham it up for the cameras before the show while Grace is putting on her make-up. Brilliant dressing room video clip!!!!

Grace and Lady Kier.. global style icons and genuine, original artistes who didn't need a company or big money to connect with and grow an audience.
AMEN!!!!!
I love it that Grace Jones does her own makeup 💄.
In the background at the start of video, there is a guy in a polka dot shirt seen for a few seconds. That is David Spada. He designed parts of Grace's outfit and was known creating "gay pride rings" (multicolored metal rings that where very popular at one point). I dated him at one point, he died at the very young age of 34 from A.I.D.S. He was ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of passing it on to me even while being "safe" (which shows what kind of guy he was). Seeing this video just got me choked up, even after all this time.
Thank you for your kind words! David and I were good friends in the 80's and I made several videos for him. You and I may have met! The necklace you're talking about was called "Freedom Rings", and David even wrote and sang a song about them called "Let Freedom Rings" which I have on another video. I have to get those other videos on UA-cam. I'm working on it a little at a time. I still have a bracelet he made for me. I even got to help make some of the Freedom Rings, and made a video about how they were made. David said that the Freedom Rings were being ordered all around the world and they were a huge success financially. I miss him too! Again, Thank You and Best Wishes to You.
Yes! I made this video for/with David. We were good friends. I did a few videos for him. Would like to find those videos and post them.
Spada designed and fabricated several costumes, headdresses and accessories for Grace Jones that were worn by her in performances.
Spada’s clients included Madonna, Nina Hagen and Grace Jones who performed in his apparel highlighted by body paint applied by Haring. His work also featured in Vogue Magazine, Elle USA and Harpers Bazaar US. Just before his death, his “Absolut Spada'' design was used nationally for an Absolut Vodka US campaign.
I wish I could like this comment section elebentyseven times!
❤
Probably more class and creative talent in that dressing room than the entire pop chart today. What a time it was!
Grace Jones was definitely ahead of time. Many years ago I thought that she was just eccentric. But now I realize she is a brilliant and talented artist with her own individual style that has been imitated by many other artists, including Lady Gaga.
Dee-lite was the only house music/hip Hop jam that truly loved the scene, which included fashion, dance, grooves of their own and a voice that was beyond sexy. Who has done that since?
Your mom.
Well, to play devil's advocate, a lot of critics said Scissor Sisters were Deee-Lite's most adept successors. "The most fun to come out of New York nightlife since Deee-Lite," if I recall correctly.
such talent in a small room- god I miss these days- wish I was there for this NYE show- Thank you Deee-Lite and Grace Jones - your music helps people grow and have fun in their lives
Ah! Grace Jones in that dress is EVERYTHING!!! Goddess!
I was at this show. I stood on a garbage can to see the performances. It was unreal. Grace was other worldly. She had her dancers strip her button naked on stage and then dress her in a cat suit. She performed Slave To The Rhythm and I've Seen that Face Before. It was worth every penny of the admission price.
You couldn’t see that stuff these days, at least not with majorly famous names and with everyone with a cell phone recording it wouldn’t be done. Either the label would censor them or they would do it themselves. Losing some of the magic and gutsiness.

Kier is so adorable! I love her ++++
Her skin is amazing; so dark and beautiful. And this vid is such a vanity fair, but everyone looks great.
I've been listening to the Great Dee-Lite, and have re-remembered just how great Miss Kier is...and then to have Grace AND Kier in the same room! Fabulous!
they all look divine!
dmitri always had so much going on in his pants.
fabulous!
Depending on how you see a thing…..UA-cam is everyones visual anthropology for the future. Recording our memories and connections to otherworldly beings like Miss Kier and Grace Jones. Continued blessings to the magical ones
Lady Miss Kier is a Goddess.
Fabulous Footage. Lady Kier is so cute and Grace Jones a flawless hoot as always.....
The best dressing room ever!
Thank you!
1tikimug You're welcome :)
ugh...love them both! i have died and gone to 90's fab heaven!!!
I love them. I wish there was something like them now. Positive vibes still reverberating.
There is. Just not in the mainstream.
2 of the greatest modern style icons, kier being the underrated
one...
palladium rip to a real ny landmark
believe it or not lady keir is legendary! and its not about these ladys "hits" that made them a legend in my opinion. grace is an iconic figure in fashion and music and i feel dee-lite made her impact on the music scene as well! they dont make artist like lady kier anymore..its sad!
I looooove this! This is such an amazing dressing room clip!
And Grace... such an incredibly alluring ravaging beast!
Those times were xclusive! Lady Kier is 1 in a million!!
Bring it back please !
omg this clip is amazing! grace &lady keir.=legendary!
@THEMETAPHY
With all due respect to Grace Jones, and in her case her due respect is mad respect, I take issue with Lady Kier being labeled a "copycat" of anyone. Grace may have preceded her, but Kier broke out w/ a style and sound all her and Deee Lite's own.
Omg this is so cool I love both of them in Dee-Lite and Grace Jones she was fierce!
I fell in love when I first saw Lady Kier, still am, damn that's a fine woman!
Lady kier is a beauty
Grace Jones, a true original...
I went to this show on New Years . It was great. This was New York
Brennivan Gardens you're telling your age because I was there too. I worked and still work 14 blocks away from the Palladium. It was demolished and a PC Richards stands in the space. SO SAD.
Lots! And good for them, NEW YORK CITY was the Entertainment Capital Back Then!
Thank you for sharing this special video! Much appreciated. ❤ :)
THIS is DEgrrrrroooovy !!imagine 3 of my favorite people together ,I would have loved 2 have been a fly on the wall w/that one !!!wheres TOWA TOWA ??
I was at that party. In fact I met Grace's Mum and sister as well as her son at her Bank street Loft.Franklyn Rowe designed for Grace.I even accompanied her to a performance at the Garage 1986, rode in the limousine with her and entered through the back entrance.I was a young man then pursuing a career in fashion photography. I even worked with the original Details Magazine as well as Jill out of Paris. Those were great times. Both Grace and I are from Port Antonio Jamaica. J'adore Grace Jones
Yes those were the years. I remember Paladium back then. I did promotions there beginning in 1992. Lots of fond memories from my DJ and promo days.
THIS is sooooo EVERYTHING!!!!!! * O M WOW!!!!!!!
I bow and worship at the feet of my idol GRACE JONES!!!!
Wow, thank you for sharing. Great material!!
~ The 1990s meet the decade you came from, 1970s. Seeing two icons from disparate yet homogenous decades so magnificent. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~ c
Lady Keir was so beautiful Grace looks exactly the same now black dont crack for real
Grace is the best
Love you Grace Jones!!! Diva total!!!
Lady Miss Kier & Grace = Goddesses
I can't believe it was 19 years ago! Where did all that time go?
What a fun night and Grace and Lady Kier and Dmitri were very fun to be around. I miss David Spada. He worked with Kieth Haring a lot. This video is one of four I made for him around this time -highlighting his business.
Very cool 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 those were the days..
Miss Grace Jones STYLE Icon
I was there! Great night Great times! Packed house News Years Eve 1990.
Thank you 1tikimug for uploading this video, what great backstage footage. Too much Lady Miss Kier and Grace at the same time, wish I would have been there.. too sweet!
I love both of these women. They have brought me and mine much joy. XO from New Orleans, and thank you for posting. (As our Carnival costume demands approach, and I feel like half-assing it because this City is so broken; but this vid reminds me to DO IT UP because sharing is caring.) All love.
I wasn't there but I trully believe that anyone that was, and if they're watchin' this right now, they must feel such nostalgia... I bet those were the times...
It sure was
I wish I was there. I am a 90s baby that wishes he was a 90s teen.
the 90's were great.
@1tikimug this footage is freakn amazing!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
yes she is a queen , i think she stay a quenn 2008 abd for ever..
I must agree... better to have someone like Gaga today than nothing at all. It's always good to have performers who push the boundaries!! Elsa Schiaparelli to Amanda Lear to Grace Jones to Lady Kier(deee-lite) to Bjork to Lady Gaga! Who's next?
@sophistipunk - it was as much fun to make as it is to watch! Did you watch the other two videos of her performing? The second one, I'm Not Perfect But I'm Perfect For You, has two guys changing her costume during the act. Very cool. Thanks for the comment.
beautiful jamaican woman i lov it..
More great memories! Thanks for posting!
I wish I would have been there I love Grace Jones
Grace is so riveting
cool video! thanks for posting! viva Grace!

I Love it! David, you have to add the rest of the footage, it's Brilliant. Grace, we love you! Lady Miss Kier, We Love You!
"If it's on, i'll act Natural", (giggles) "happy new year" - Lady Kier

Enjoy your Thursgay night Splash with classic Divas, Grace Jones and Lady Miss Kier.

Lady Gaga is trying her best, but it you had to compare it's like Grace is the Wizard of Oz, and Gaga is The Wiz. Grace is Harry Winston diamonds, and Gaga is Swarowski crystal. Ha ha hee!
What did gaga do to you lol
This is a documentary! thank you for posting
5:35 Am, i Love it.
