Thanks, a very informative review. I was going to bid on used a Fiio, but all the features of this, and the easy UI (compared to the cheapies) sold it to me. I have to use BT for my portable speakers so it should do it all. Hopefully you will review the balanced adaptor soon, I'm interested to hear if there's a discernible difference. I'm new to this, I got dragged into audio after being staggered at how a thirty quid DAC improved my crap android phone's output, and my life. Happy New Year to everyone.
Hell’s Bells & Buckets of Blood! They pack quite a bit into it especially since it is smaller than some other players that do the same sorts of things.
Seems like a nice little player. The size is a little unfortunate. The A&B mode is directly targetted at us audiophiles who constantly cycle through new gear and seems like a great tool for comparison, however setting the start/stop point might be a little annoying on the small screen I guess. I can imagine, with the sleep settings and volume lock and whatnot, it could be a great little sleep companion for audiobooks or something.
is it worth getting regarding sound quality , since i have shanling M5s but i need a small (ipod like) player for small pockets. how big is the difference in sound between both?
Hello! I want to know if there is an important difference between the Fiio M5 en the Shanling M0 PRO, talking about the sound quality. I already have the WH-1000XM4 and I want to purchase the Fiio FH3. I am ok with the Fiio M5 or do I have to go for the M0 PRO. I really like the plastic clip of the Fiio M5.
@@VortexReviews1 That's what I'm afraid of. I've got the Moondrop Dawn balanced and the iBasso DC03. I think the Moondrop will drain the battery quite quickly but the iBasso could work fine. How was the volume control when using it in this config with the Tempotec? Can you adjust in nice small steps or do you need to be careful?
Just wanted to ask if I use a 3.5m to 4.4f original balance connector, I will need one more connector 35f to 4.4m to use regular headphones. Will the music quality get better with that setup?
@@VortexReviews1 yes I have an original cable from shanling 3.5 male to 4.4 female but to connect regular headphones with 3.5 jack I will need one more adapter. Will it be ok to connect like that?
@@VortexReviews1 yes, latest 1.6 FW. i am using many files, about half of a 1.5 TB card. i have other shanling DAPs i am happy with. i picked this one because it was promised it would use up to 2TB cards... i guess i was expecting too much.
Can we use it like a receiver like quedilx 5k or btr 5??. I mean can i connect it to my phone using Bluetooth and stream music on phone while this powers my wired headphones??
@@VortexReviews1 what you like more about each other? I wanted some good sounding dap, small, easy to use. I normally use browsing by folder. I prefer a dap that have fast access to folders.

98% of the users in the world have 3.5mm normal plug. Now they are making it even harder by making 3.5mm balanced socket, with separate adapter which is available with only 2% stores in the world. Then they are offering 4.4mm output socket to it. Now we need 4.4mm balanced male to 3.5mm normal stereo output adapter. Unless they realize that they should provide 3.5mm balanced male to 3.5mm stereo female socket in the box. So if 98% of the headphone population does not want to get these 2 adapters, they will have to keep using the single ended output at the cost of balanced. Is this so hard for the Shanling to understand?
Eh? I thought the built in port is a 3.5 mm balanced female, BUT compatible with any regular/single ended 3.5 mm jacks from headphones. The one adapter that wasn’t included in the box is 3.5 balanced male to 4.4 balanced female, to accommodate our existing 4.4 balanced earphones. Am I wrong? But I still think it should be included or offered in big discount if purchased in a bundle with the main unit itself. Also, an L-shape plug adapter will be a lot more appealing and neat than cable style adapter.
@@andy.w Yes correct. Thats what I said. And if you buy this adapter, it will never be usable to any other dap or dac. Because of all the daps and dacs in the world only Shanling M0 pro has 3.5mm balanced jack.
Thanks for the ongoing commitment to affordable audiophile gear.
Cheers Archie.
Extension is just how I like it. Instruments like cymbals just sound amazing.
Ayy, super happy to see you got your hands on one. I ended up buying one too and have been enjoying it. Also nice review! 👍
Thanks very much and glad you like it. 👍
Been using it for a few days and the sound quality is great.

There are so many settings to adjust how you see fit. The size is either good or bad as it depends on how you use it.
I use it in the gym. In the case I place a lace for neck. And I go gym with this. Hate wireless
Thumbs up for the review. But you did not say whether the sound quality is the same or better than the original?
Thanks very much and I sold the OG model before I got the Pro so I couldn't compare them but the DAC are meant to be better implemented in this Pro.
I like the form factor of these small daps, bit always find the UIs to be so clunky.
I agree.

does it work well with a usb c to 3.5 dac dongle? i have that conexant dongle thing, wonder if it's any good with this kind of dap
I have tried it with the Sonata HD II only and it worked fine with that model.
Thank you for the review Vortex👍.
Would you say this has a more user friendly UI than the Hidizs Ap80 and more functionality?
I have not seen the UI in real life but from images it might be better but it is a larger dap.

Debating between this and the Hiby R2 gen 2. Can't seem to find anyone who's tried both. Have you had a chance to use that one?
I have not unfortunately.
So I can use this with any USB-c dongle DAC/HPamp?
In theory yes but some are very power hungry. I tried this with the Tempotec Sonata HD II.
